Financial Analyst and anti-corruption crusader, Sydney Casely-Hayford has charged Ghana\u2019s Armed Forces to make a full disclosure of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement it says it has made with some private developers.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”NJtWcZxVHhBpIyOQmfo549LoadglwKb3″]In his opinion, a critical look at the said agreement is indicative that it is a \u201cdeliberate attempt to take away the land of the Military by a group of people.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026this is a scam; it\u2019s a complete scam and we should recognize it for what they are,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed allegations that it is selling its land and properties to private individuals after a group of retired army officers raised concerns over the issue.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Citi FM\u2019s news analysis programme, The Big Issue, Casely-Hayford complained over the level of secrecy the Military is shrouded in.<\/p>\n
He asked: \u201cAs we sit here today, does anybody know how much money we spend on the Military? Their budget is not made public\u2026the Police to some extent but we don\u2019t show how much we are spending on the Military\u2026we don\u2019t have a clue and the money belongs to us; the people of Ghana and as soon as you start getting into that territory, they say it\u2019s a state secret.\u201d<\/p>\n
He observed that to put the matter to rest, the leadership of GAF should tell citizens \u201cwho the PPP arrangements were made with, who the parties are, who are going to be the beneficiaries are going to be, and they should tell us exactly what the cost of each property will be\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Casely-Hayford argued that the Military\u2019s attempt to get involved in commerce is a \u201cwaste of time; it\u2019s a complete waste of time. That is not why they go to the Military.\u201d<\/p>\n
He however suggested that the state should \u201cdisband the army for several reasons. We don\u2019t need it because I don\u2019t ever recall Ghana going to war with anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
Can\u2019t the state take care of the Military?<\/strong><\/p>\n Meanwhile, the President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has questioned whether the state does not have the resources to cater for the needs of the army since it could be the reason they are getting themselves involved in commercial activities.<\/p>\n \u201cWe probably need to be told whether we do not have money any longer to take care of our military and if it\u2019s the case, we need to have that conversation about whatever assets the army have that could obviously be turned into some significant gain but it must be done in a very fair, transparent and open manner,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n He warned Ghana must be on guard because Militaries around the world are moving away from commercialization due to its negative repercussions such as political upheavals.<\/p>\n According to the IMANI boss, it is understandable that the Military wants to build itself and integrate itself into society \u201cbut if you now want to make commercial decisions, you\u2019ve got to be careful and you\u2019ve got to be fair.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0–<\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Financial Analyst and anti-corruption crusader, Sydney Casely-Hayford has charged Ghana\u2019s Armed Forces to make a full disclosure of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement it says it has made with some private developers.
