The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has warned a group calling itself Concerned Ghanaians, not to defy their orders by attempting to hit the streets today.

The Group which had earlier served notice of protesting on Independence day was barred from doing so, following a court order procured by the police to that effect.

They insist that nothing will stop them from exercising their constitutional rights.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Afia Tenge explained that the Police turned down the group’s request because they “realized that the day that the group wanted to embark on the demonstration was not too convenient for the Police”

ASP Tenge pointed out that though the Police asked them to postpone their planned demonstration, they disagreed.

“They didn’t want to reason with the Police and our last resort was to go to a court to seek a restraining order to restrain them.”

She indicated that the Police will be forced to arrest members of the Group and process them for court, if they fail to heed to their warning.

“If a court is restraining you from embarking on any social event and you defy that court order then let us wait to see the outcome of it . And for the Police we will not hestitate to stop any group of people who will try to defy this court order and present them before this same court that issued the order, “ she explained.

The planned demonstration is to protest the worsening energy crisis.
