The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Boamah, has indicated to Parliament that the conditions of service within the nation’s Judiciary are deteriorating.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zgLEiAUny9RM0qJQN4vxU1bqSVKXNBr8″]Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, the opposition MP who is also a lawyer alleged that the situation is so bad that morale within the judicial service has plummeted.

He made these remarks when he contributed to the debate on President John Mahama’s 2015 State of the Nation Address to Parliament last Month.

According to him, the President promised to spend an amount of $5million within 18 months on the judicial service.

But he indicated that the President is yet to visit the various court premises to access the situation.

“I am speaking on authority that the President has not visited the court premises to even ascertain the fate of our court rooms and the facilities available to Judges,” he claimed.

Mr. Boamah observed that Judges are not well motivated while the members of the judicial service staff are also “not in the best of shape to assist the Justices to deliver effective judgment…to attract the needed investment.”

The Okaikoi Central MP also questioned why the President did not comment on two major scandals that dented Ghana’s image on the foreign front in his address.

He recalled that last year, there were issues with regards to our Foreign Missions in both Tokyo and Burkina Faso but they are yet to be addressed.

“There was an issue with our Mission in Tokyo where the premises of our embassy was engaged in gambling for which the international media captured it and brought the image of Ghana into bad light,” he said.

He disclosed that the report on that matter is ready and expressed the hope that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will come to Parliament to discuss the details of that report with MPs.

“The issue of the $600,000 great wall around our embassy in Burkina Faso also has to be discussed by our Foreign Minister but it was left out in our President’s address as to what he was doing in terms of that issue,” he suggested.
