I am not a prophet of doom; in fact, I am not a prophet at all. I have never had any revelation from God before.

I am just a writer who opens a vein with his pen and predicts possible occurrences through observation, intuition and critical analysis of issues.

Not long ago, I was insulted by some people because I had pointed out what factors could harm artiste relationships at Zylofon Media. That was few days after they had signed Shatta Wale onto their music record label.

I suggested 4 things they could do to forestall any problem that could rear its head at the company and wished that they became proactive in tackling them. I mentioned that Willi Roi would sow seeds of confusion among the artistes; Bulldog may not give in his all in working with Shatta Wale (someone he had had issues with in the past) as his Artiste & Repertoire manager; Shatta Wale, a ‘patented’ troublemaker would stoke fights among the in-house artistes – and finally warned them against their propensity to prioritise Shatta Wale over the other artistes.

They took my words for granted and went ahead to live their lives. After all, they have their mission and vision – no one can tell them what to do.

Stonebwoy’s attack at Champs Bar

When I heard that Stonebwoy and his crew had been attacked at Champs Bar at the Paloma Hotel in Accra on Saturday March 10, 2018, I fathomed the centre was gradually loosening. People were tagging me on Facebook, referencing my previous article but I was not happy. I wrote the article to help save a possible ‘disaster’ and not to see the misfortunes happen.

Signing Stonebwoy’s arch-rival Shatta Wale onto Zylofon Music shouldn’t have generated any rift between the two artistes but some elements at Zylofon Media made it possible.

How many times should we be told that creative artistes or people who do talent-oriented jobs have egos? Every creative artist naturally has ego – even the worst artist feels he is the best.

It is not easy to house two arch rivals under the same roof and expect them to live in peace without putting in place measures to ensure a peaceful co-habitation.

The moment Shatta Wale was signed, Zylofon Media should have employed the best strategies to manage these two hulking ‘egos.’ But it takes tact to do that. Obviously, that would not have been possible with figures like the Head of the Zylofon Arts Club, Willi Roi who would irresponsibly go on radio to incite Stonebwoy against Shatta Wale or vice versa.

The posture of some workers of the company, both on social and traditional media (including their own radio station, Zylofon FM) contributed to the glaring show of hatred the two artistes are exhibiting now.

Going for the Hyundai Sonata from Stonebwoy was stupid

I hear the Transport Manager, Eric Amponsah upon whose behest some workers attempted take a car from Stonebwoy was sacked shortly after the incident. Well, I don’t know him. I have not bothered to find him or see his dismissal letter – so I can’t really tell if he’s at post or has really been sacked.

What is heartwarming, however, was when Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of Zylofon Media, did the right thing [this time] by apologizing for the attack on Stonebwoy and his team at Champs Bar. But whichever reason they tried to take the car from Stonebwoy was nonsensical. It put the company in a very bad light.

Nana Appiah Mensah – CEO, Zylofon Media

Even if they had problem with Stonebwoy, it was simply wrong to have followed him from the University of Ghana campus to Champs Bar at night, under the pretext of taking the car for servicing.

Stonebwoy’s display of childishness at the University of Ghana

It is public knowledge that Stonebwoy is not happy that Shatta Wale was signed on to Zylofon Music record label and was given a better reception but he needed to have accorded some respect to the company that handles his work.

The act of pulling down the Zylofon Cash banners did not make sense. This is a product that had been launched by his company. Any well-meaning person would know that even if it is not spelled out in the contract to promote it, it was just right he helped in projecting the smaller brand – the success of Zylofon Cash, by extension feeds into the parent company.

I have heard Stonebwoy deny that he asked the organisers to pull down the banners but reliable sources say, his manager Black Cedi was the one who engineered the act. Shameful!

The VGMA nominees jam drama

Recently, Zylofon Media, through their lawyers, wrote to Charter House, the organisers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to prevent Stonebwoy from performing at their forthcoming Nominees Jam at Cape Coast because they were not aware of the said engagement.

This comes few days after the record company had put out a notice of the list of artists singed on to their various labels, stressing that anybody who needed to hire the services of the artists should deal with Zylofon Media.

It is surprising why Stonebwoy would want to do away with Zylofon Media when it comes to booking for shows. He did same at the Hilla Limann Hall Week celebration sponsored by Zyofon Media where he had earlier declined to perform but later went behind them to perform.

He named his daughter last week and my checks prove that no representative from Zylofon Media was present.

From all indications, Stonebwoy is not happy being with Zylofon Media at the moment. It appears he feels caught in a noose and would want to be free.

If he feels disrespected or uncomfortable being at Zylofon Media, he should just follow the due process and bail himself out of the contract he has with Zylofon Music.

It is absolutely preposterous to go about booking gigs without the consent of a record label you have been signed on to.

With his current beef with Shatta Wale and the recent happenings, a Stonebwoy-Zylofon relationship looks bleak and fruitless. It won’t favour either party because these problems will keep recurring.

Conclusion

Zylofon Media is in for a good cause but they have been foolhardy to critical issues and the earlier they put their house in order, the better.

Dancehall artiste Livingstone Etse Setekla aka Stonebwoy has explained why he fired gunshots at the Champs Bar in Accra last night.

According to him, he did that to defend himself of any gruesome attack that may have been launched on him.

When King Lagaze asked him on Hitz FM on Sunday of the reason behind what he did, he asked “have you heard of self-defence before?”

Stonebwoy on Saturday was reported to have been engaged in a scuffle with some officers of his record label, Zylofon Music, who had gone to the premises to take from him, a car purported to have been given to him by the company.

Report has it that Stonebwoy had earlier been to the University of Ghana to perform at the Artistes Night of the Hilla Limann Week Celebration. At the behest of Stonebwoy and his management, the organizers took off all Zylofon Media banners. This deepened speculations that the ‘My Name’ hit maker may have severed relationship with Zylofon Media.

Lawrence Nana Asiamah aka Bulldog who is the Artiste and Repertoire Manager for Zylofon Music went to the premise off the show and asked that the cars which were branded in Zylofon insignia were taken away, upon seeing how things branded with Zylofon tags were being disposed off.

Bulldog – Artiste & Repertoire Manager, Zylofon Music

By then, Stonebwoy had left for the Champs Bar at the Paloma Hotel where his protégé Kelvin Boy was performing.

According to Stonebwoy, while in a room at the hotel, he sent his brother to fetch him his clothes from his car when he heard noise from outside.

“They hit [my brother] on the lips, they took the car keys from him and they sat in the car…if not for my bodyguard, they would have driven my car away and that would have been something else,” he recounted.

He then fired gunshots to dispel the crowd so they could move the car.

Apparently, Bulldog had followed up with is guys to the Champ Bar to take the car from him but Stonebwoy has stated that the car in question is his personal property and not what Zylofon gave to him.

Background to Stonebwoy and Zylofon Media ‘fight’

In June, 2017, Stonebwoy was signed on to Zylofon Music record label with an undisclosed contractual agreement.

Even though other musicians had been signed before and after Stonebwoy, theories have it that he may not have liked the idea of Zylofon Media signing his arch-rival Shatta Wale.

Shatta Wale’s signing was greeted with razzmatazz, pomp and pageantry – a situation that was unlike all the signings Zylofon Music had done in the past.

Even though Stonebwoy had congratulated Shatta Wale for joining the Zylofon family he also stated that he was not pre-informed by the management that they were bringing Shatta Wale on board.

In the interview King Lagaze had with him on Sunday evening, reggae presenter Skelly Dread sent a question to the host asking whether Stonebwoy would have signed onto Zylofon Music if they had already signed another dance hall artiste. He responded in the negative.

Even though Stonebwoy and Zylofon have not come out to announce anything pertaining to the abrogation of contract with Stonebwoy, it appears all is not well with the two parties and a possible break up is imminent.

This comes on the back of recent innuendos made by Shatta Wale about Stonebwoy’s Ghc 5,000 donation to the accident ward of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital. Stonebwoy went there without any reps from the record label.

He followed up with another post: “ Stonebwoy stop that silly thing ooo ibe so samini do weh a kill am lyrically .. this beef u deh try start u can’t WiN and you know from your dear heart ..I AM ZYLOFON ..are you ZYLOFON.. ? Answer me ..”

The personal manager of Stonebwoy, Black Sidi also took to social media to reply Shatta Wale in a similar fashion.

“Somebody Tell My Good Friend We Wont Mind Him…We Are Busy Rehearsing For SummerJam And Reggae Sumfest 2018. #BhimNationGlobal ” he wrote on Facebook.

Attempts to get parties involved to speak to the matter have not been successful.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah has asked fans of Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and his company to stay calm as they solve the problem.

Nana Appiah Mensah (CEO – Zylofon)

“I urge all well wishers of@shattawalegh, @stonebwoyb and @ZylofonMedia to remain very calm. Whatever differences, as with all human institutions would be resolved in the most civil and decorous fashion. Ghana shall prosper.#zylofonmusic #Ghanamusic #Ghanawi,” he wrote on his social media platforms.

Earlier, Nana Appiah Mensah and Zylofon Media had unfollowed Stonebwoy on twitter.

Shatta Wale could not hide his joy and appreciation to Zylofon Media when he was officially unveiled as new signee to the Zylofon Music record label.

The Ghanaian Dance hall artiste who signed a three-year deal with Zylofon Media on Wednesday was accompanied by his wife, Shatta Michy to the unveiling.

The programme which was held at the company’s head office at East Legon in Accra saw a lot of Shatta Movement fans at the forecourt and on the streets.

It was also characterised by a thick vehicular traffic, with huge security presence.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah said his firm will do everything possible to put Shatta Wale on the international scene.

“Zylofon will take him global,” he added.

According to the Public Relations Officer of Zylofon Media, Samuel Atuobi Baah (Sammy Flex), the record label will be in charge of the branding, production, distribution, and marketing of Shatta Wale’s songs – and this is for a period of 3 years.

He however did not give out details of the contract as to how much was given to the dance hall artistes. But sources say Shatta has been given $1.5 million, a Rolls-Royce and a house.

At the press conference, Shatta Wale said “I am seeing today like historical, I am seeing today like Christmas, I am seeing today like first July.”

He was thankful to the Chief Executive Officer of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah for making him part of the Zylofon family.

“I am seeing today as a special day just because I was praying to God to give me a record label, not just a record label but a good one of course. Nana Appiah (CEO of Zylofon Media) has made it possible for me and I am happy about it.”

On his part, Nana Appiah Mensah stated that the signing of Shatta Wale was not to create competition between signees of the company but rather between Ghanaian artistes and foreign acts.

The Shatta Movement boss now joins Stonebwoy, Becca, Kumi Guitar, Joyce Blessing, Obibini who were signed on the record label last year.

Shatta Wale real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah, is one of the biggest dance hall artistes in Ghana.

The controversial musician is renowned for hits such as ‘Kakai,’ ‘Mahama Paper,’ ‘Ayoo,’ ‘Taking Over,’ among others.

The two-way bridge spanning the Odaw River at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, near the Neoplan Station, will soon be demolished to pave the way for the construction of an overhead as part of the Circle Interchange project.

Before the demolition, however, another bridge will be built behind the Neoplan Station to connect motorists who use the station to the Nsawam Road.

The Chief Resident Engineer on the project, Mr Atta Kwaw Diafo, told the Daily Graphic that work on the new bridge was scheduled to begin next week.

He explained that once that bridge was completed, motorists moving from the Obetsebi-Lamptey Roundabout and adjoining roads would no longer need to use the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

“All traffic will be diverted onto the third bridge,” he said.

Work on the three-tier interchange, which started in September last year, is being undertaken by a Brazilian construction firm, Queiroz Galvao, at a cost of 74 million euros.

Work on schedule

Significant work has been carried out on the foundations of the interchange. So far, three out of the four support piers for the Nsawam-Kwame Nkrumah Avenue have been completed.

Concerning the Akasanoma-Nsawam road, Mr Diafo said, “We have done all the foundations, two abutments and four supports.”

The abutments are sited at the end of the bridges and in between the bridges are the supporting piers.

According to Mr Diafo, four of the abutments has been completed, among other works.

For his part, the Contract Superintendent of Queiroz Galvao, Mr Andre Luiz Albuquerque Carvalho, indicated that motorists would appreciate the extent of work done by July this year.

He explained that prefabricated beams from Portugal and Spain would be mounted on the completed piers by that time.

“We will deliver 100 per cent of the project by next year, which is the scheduled date for completion, but before that time we will release areas that have been completed to help manage traffic,” he stated.

The new design

“The roadside drains define the limit of the road, so once those are accepted, we can now work in between the drains on the left and the right,” Mr Diafo said.

The first level flyover of the new project will be between the Akasanoma road, towards the Accra Newtown junction on the Nsawam road, as well as from the Newtown junction to the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, around PTC in the opposite direction.

The second level flyover is on the Ring Road between the Fanofa Bridge and Feo Oyo and connects the Ring Road Central to the Ring Road West.

The ground level has a roundabout at the existing circle.

The Ring Road flyover also lifts the Ring Road above the Odaw River and the rail line.

Meanwhile, the relocation of some utility lines, water, electricity and telecommunications is going on.
