The Youth wing of the Tijaniyya Muslim Movement, is advocating for the establishment of Islamic hospitals within Zongo Communities in Ghana.

According to the group, such facilities will cater for the health needs of people living in Muslim dominated areas, and will conform to best Islamic practices in healthcare delivery.

There have been concerns in most Zongo communities across Ghana about how Muslim women are being attended to by male gynecologists at some hospitals in the country – a development that has been seen as ‘unislamic’.

The concerns resurfaced at the 65th birthday celebration of the Spiritual Father of the Tijaniyya Muslim Movement, Zaeem Sheikh Abdul Wadudu Haruna, and the launch of the 50th anniversary of his annual Maulid at Aboabo in Kumasi.

Leading Member of the Movement, Gariba Nurudeen, said it is high time an Islamic hospital is established to cater for the health needs of Muslims in Ghana.

He said Islam does not permit a man to attend another man’s wife, and that pregnant women from Zongo communities are usually faced with such challenges when they visit the hospital.

He appealed to the Government to come in and help establish such facilities which will be equipped with female Muslim gynecologists to cater for the health needs of Muslim women.

This intervention he maintained, will also make Muslim corpses ready for burial according to Islamic tenets without going through the process of conducting autopsies on dead bodies.

Ustaz Nurudeen indicated that, the group was also focusing on key objectives that will contribute positively to the progress of Muslim communities.

Part of these goals he said, was to have an educational system that will imbibe moral values and impact positive skills on students to make them employable when they graduate.

He called on youth in Zongo communities to come together and contribute their quota to national development.

Chief Executive of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, who lauded the proposal, said Government is ready to partner the Zongo communities in the realization of such initiatives.

He said his office has commenced processes to convert a proposed court building into a hospital to serve residents within the municipality.

Alhaji Seidu advised the youth to stay out of trouble and be good citizens.
