It is now almost certain that the National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, may not lead his party’s youth into the 2020 elections, which means the party is likely to miss its inspirational and charismatic youth leader in the 2020 elections.

Awuku, who has been credited with building a formidable, but radical youth group that led the NPP campaign into the 2016 elections, is said to be eyeing the position of National Organizer, leaving a huge vacuum to be filled.

On various social media platforms, the contest is getting heated, with some engaging in name-calling, innuendos and insults.

[contextly_sidebar id=”NMuzhddON1gH3VY4actGrZTWTlqHhIzD”]Indeed, most followers of the history of the NPP under the 1992 Constitution, tout Awuku as one of the greatest youth leaders of the party.

For majority of the youth, it is an emotional departure for their charismatic youth leader who is also credited with bringing vibrancy and energizing the party youth base.

The thought of him not being the youth leader again, is an emotional matter according to some constituency Youth and Regional Youth Organizers who spoke with The New Crusading Guide.

Even though it is rumored that he will be contesting for the National Organizer position of the party, he is yet to confirm. But even before he does that, many party Executives across the country are excited they will be working with him.

But the major questions on the lips of many party followers, has to do with who replaces him, as they are torn between three formidable contenders; namely Nana Boakye aka Nana B, Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Dominic Kwasi Eduah, incumbent Deputy National Youth Organizer of the NPP, and Kamal Deen, who is the incumbent Nasara Coordinator of the party.

Kamal Deen is well known among the NPP Youth following his association with Sammy.

The student’s wing of the party, known as TESCON is no stranger to him. He has served as president of TESCON at the University of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa, and later become TESCON president at KNUST.

On several occasions, he has mounted the stage to speak at TESCON events motivating the young men and women to work hard for the party.

Dominic Edua, is equally no stranger to student’s politics as he ably served as Awuku’s trusted lieutenant prior to the 2016 elections, criss-crossing across the country. He, like Nana B, is seen to be affable and more pragmatic. He is said to be “a guy of few words but with action.”

The hold of Kamal Deen in the Zongo communities cannot be downplayed, as he is credited with delivering votes in those communities to the NPP.

“We did not win a lot of seats in those communities, but the votes appreciated a lot and so Kamal also deserves commendation,” a youth activist told this paper.

“We have a huge challenge now, since they are all perfect replacements for Sammy Awuku. We do not know who to vote for. Interestingly, none of them seem to want to depart from the legacy of Awuku so we are encouraged by that,” another Regional Youth Executive of the NPP told The New Crusading Guide.

The Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Brogya Genfi, has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), to investigate the $ 2.25 billion bond issued by government.

This petition follows concerns by the Minority over what they term as “conflict of interest” in the deal, which the Government has vehemently denied.

[contextly_sidebar id=”wQ2Vf25Av4v0MNukwpVqUFuYV9gOG18E”]The Minority had alleged that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, secured 95 percent of the bond for family and friends.

Brogya Genfi, in his petition, sided with this position, saying Mr. Ofori Atta “has attempted to promote a private or personal interest for himself or for some family members and business associates, and the promotion of the private interest has resulted in, or was intended to result in, or appears to have resulted in, or has the potential to result in an interference with the objective exercise of his duties and an improper benefit or an advantage by virtue of his position”

Mr. Genfi also demanded that the following questions must be answered:

  • Was a substantial portion of the bond purchased by Franklin Templeton Investments, if so, how much? • Is Trevor G. Trefgarne a Director of Franklin Templeton Investments?
  • Is Trevor G. Trefgarne the Chairman/Director of Enterprise Group Ltd?
  • Are Dr. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, Mr. Keli Gadzekpo, Hon. Gloria Akuffo and Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta Directors of the Board of Enterprise Group Ltd.?
  • If not, were they Directors of the Board in the immediate past?
  • Does Databank Ltd. own part of Enterprise Group Ltd. or any of its affiliates?
  • Does Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta have any shares or business interest in Databank Ltd. or did he have any shares or business interest in the immediate past? •
  • Is Keli Gadzekpo a business partner of the Minister for Finance or was Keli Gadzekpo a business partner of the Minister for Finance immediately before the Minister was sworn in as Minister for Finance?
  • Did Hon. Gloria Akuffo resign from the board of Enterprise Group Ltd. and, if so, was this before the commencement of the process of the bond issuance?
  • Did Hon. Gloria Akuffo, as Attorney-General & Minister for Justice, have no knowledge of the bond arrangement and, if so, why not?
  • Were the initial pricing guidelines of the Bond issued around 5:37pm on March 30, 2017, after normal working hours?
  • Was the transaction opened around 9.00am on March 31, 2017, and closed around 4.20pm of the same day?
  • Was the transaction opened before the announcement was made to the public? • Was the placement method used competitive and transparent or was it “cooked” for one single investor? • Did the Minister for Finance make full disclosure of his relational interest in the bond issuance either before or during the process?
  • Did the Attorney-General make full disclosure of her relational interest in the bond issuance either before or during the process?
  • Did the Minister for Finance adhere to the 1992 Constitution, the Code of Conduct for Public Officers of Ghana, CHRAJ’s guidelines on conflict of interest for Public Officers, and other relevant rules and laws pertaining to conflict of interest and issues of corruption?
  • Should the Minister for Finance resign or be removed from office?
  • Did the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice adhere to the 1992 Constitution, the Code of Conduct for Public Officers of Ghana, CHRAJ’s guidelines on conflict of interest for Public Officers, and other relevant rules and laws pertaining to conflict of interest and issues of corruption?
