In an interview with Citi News after receiving her award, the best teacher, Faustina Thompson, who stated that hard work was her hallmark, also revealed that lack of parents’ involvement in their children’s education outside school, has been her major challenge for her work as a teacher.best-teacher-awards7

She however advised her colleague teachers to put in extra effort and make the required impact in the lives of their students.

In Ghana, there’s very little focus on education at the lowest level, although that is supposed to be the foundation, which needs more attention and direction.

The management of the Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) programme says teachers in Ghana must be commended for their hard work and sacrifices towards the promotion of quality education in the country.

The Government of Ghana programme on the occasion of World Teachers Day today [October 5] said although children need desks, books and clothes to guarantee their stay in school, they need inspiring teachers to ensure they enjoy good quality education.

A statement issued by T-Tel said, “teachers hold the key to a better future for all. They inspire, challenge and empower innovative and responsible citizens. Every day, they help to educate children of different backgrounds and needs – mentoring and encouraging them to be enthused about and remain in school and give them a strong start in life.”

On the occasion of World Teachers’ day which marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, the T-TEL programme said it appreciated the role of teachers in helping children learn and grow.

“We also acknowledge all of our partners in teacher education, who are committed to making sure those preparing for a vibrant career in teaching, are as well-equipped as they can possibly be to excel as professional teachers,” the statement said.

T-TEL is a 4-year (2015-2018) Government of Ghana programme, funded and supported by the UK Government through its Department for International Development (DFID) – providing £17 million – over 90 million cedis – to help transform delivery of teacher education in Ghana.
