The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President John Mahama, has said he is targeting 56 percent of the votes in the December polls.

President Mahama thus called on NDC supporters to avoid complacency and to flock to the polling stations, to ensure that his target of amassing 56 percent of the votes in the elections is realised.

“This time around, I am pleading with you. I know by the grace of God we are winning. Let us not be complacent and think that because we are winning, that is it. But this time, I want the victory to be resounding so that what happened in 2012 wouldn’t repeat itself.”

President Mahama also posited that, if he is able to garner a resounding victory at the polls, the election result would not be disputed by the opposition.

He referenced the election petition of 2012, where the New Patriotic Party (NPP), went to the Supreme Court, praying it to overturn the EC’s declaration of President Mahama as the winner of the 2012 elections on the basis of infractions and irregularities found on results sheets.

“When the result was 50.7 percent, they thought it wasn’t so much so they decided to contest the results in court,” President Mahama noted.

NDC targets 13 parliamentary seats in Ashanti

Also on his tour of the NPP stronghold, President Mahama expressed optimism the NDC will capture at least 13 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region, in addition to the one million votes the party is vying for.

Addressing NDC supporters at Asawase after a health walk in the town, President Mahama said, “the NDC has only four seats in this region; but per my calculations, I am hopeful that we would be able to wrestle nine more to make it 13.”
