To the surprise of most music fans, Shatta Wale has jumped to the defence of Tic Tac for walking out of a live interview on GH One today.

Tic Tac walked out of the interview because visuals of Shatta Wale’s video were playing in the background while the interview was ongoing.

According to him, it was disrespectful for the station to have shown Shatta Wale’s video when he was on set for an interview.

“I did not come here to promote Shatta Wale,” he said and left the studio.

Attempts by the host Baisiwa Dowuna Hammond to get him back in his seat proved futile as the hip-life musician walked off the set.

Some had expected that because of the feud between Tic Tac and Shatta Wale, the latter would blast him for what happened.

However, Shatta Wale in a Facebook post rather endorsed what Tic Tac did, saying it affirms the ideals he has been preaching for some time now.

“I think Tictac really made the best move ever. This is what I have been talking about. We should respect an artiste when he is your studios or on phone talking. How can you be asking about Shatta Wale whilst Tic Tac is there. My plan is working. Ghana artistes, lets free ourselves from the timidity and fear…we can do this ..but yo TicTac tell your colleagues ,you people sleep too much..wake up !!! #changeiscoming,” Shatta wrote.

Tic Tac and Shatta Wale have been at loggerheads after the latter had said that the former did not make good use of what he had when he was in his prime.

Shatta Wale had said Tic Tac and some other musicians who came before him, were not smart, and as a result have been broke.

Tic Tac is getting ready to release his 7th album titled ‘Mama Grace.’

Hip life musician, Tic Tac, is not happy about how Ghanaian music fans neglect artistes when new ones emerge.

In an exclusive interview with Kwame Dadzie on ‘Celebrity Radar’ on Citi FM, Tic Tac said Ghanaians have not been fair to him in his career.

“Nigeria will always have 2face, respect D’banj, Toni Tetuila and all these guys, and they always give them shows so they always release new music and they are happy to show the way,” he said.

“But we are killing our stars. Once our musicians are growing to become superstars will cripple them with lies, disrespect here and there and they are left stranded. I thank God for my life, I think Ghanaians have let me down but it’s not late; we still have more to do,” Tic Tac stated.

He also added his voice to the recent fight by some Ghanaian musicians led by dance hall artiste Shatta Wale, to reduce Nigerian influence on the Ghanaian music market and rather make Ghanaian music more visible in Nigeria.

According to Tic Tac, it takes more than insults to penetrate the Nigerian market.

“Being the first Ghanaian hip life artiste to have broken into the Naija market, I thought it was necessary for people to have asked me how I was able to penetrate the Nigerian market. But all they do is to insult me. I think Ghanaian musicians need to come together, work hard and we can get there,” he added.

Born Nana Kwaku Duah, Tic Tic gained huge prominence in the early 2000’s when he did collaborations with Nigerian acts like Tony Tetuila when they did the song ‘Fefe Na’ fe.’

Tic Tac, who is well known for songs like ‘Philomina,’ ‘Shordys,’ ‘Kwani Kwani,’ ‘Serwaa Akoto,’ is out with a new song that features Nero X. It is titled ‘Pray.’

Hip life musician, Nana Kwaku Duah, aka Tic Tac, has won a case against Melcom for using his image to plug their products in the absence of a contract.

In keeping with this, Melcom on Friday, 17th November 2017, was ordered by an Accra High Court to pay Tic Tac compensation of GHC 300,000.

According to Justice Amo Yartey who delivered the judgement, it was illegal for the company to continuously use the image of the musician when there was not contract.

The court also ordered Melcom to pay Tic Tac, a legal cost of GHC 2,000.

Legal counsel for Tic Tac, Gary Nimako Marfo, told the media after the court proceedings that the case drums home the fact that businesses cannot use the intellectual property of right owners without their consent.

“When you use someone’s intellectual property for your business, you must pay them,” Gary Nimako said.

Background

In 2016, Tic Tac sued Melcom for breach of contract, demanding a whopping GHC500,000 in damages.

A two-year brand ambassadorial contract Tic Tac signed with Melcom expired five years ago. However, the company kept using his image on some of its billboards, making him lose a similar promotional contract after the expiration of his contract with Melcom.

Per the contract signed by the two parties on May 22, 2009, Melcom was permitted to use the images, voice and personal appearance of the musician for advertising and promotional purposes for two years.

Owing to this, the ‘Philomina’ hitmaker was prevented from allowing Melcom’s competitors to use his image and voice on any advertisement or even appear on their shows.
