Communications expert, Kwaku Sakyi Addo is headed for the National Communications Authority to serve as chairman of the board.

This comes after he officially stepped down as the Executive Director of the Telecommunications Chamber.

A statement issued by the Telecoms Chamber on Sunday, April 09, 2017 confirmed Mr. Sakyi Addo’s move to the NCA.

Kwaku Sakyi-Addo reportedly receive the appointment of serve as NCA board chair from President Akufo-Addo not too long ago.

As the Telecoms Chamber boss, Sakyi Addo ensured a proper understanding of the telecoms industry in Ghana and set the Chamber apart as an effective advocate for telecom operators.

He said in his remarks, that “I am very proud of the work that the Chamber has done in aligning our members around key industry initiatives, driving important advocacy programs and building an enviable industry association. I’m grateful to the Governing Council, our entire membership and, of course, the Chamber staff for their support over the last six years.”

His new role will see him help steer the affairs of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to play a fair and effective role as a regulator of the communications industry.

The industry is one of the major focuses of the new government which seeks to among other things ensure effective local and international communication through public and private facilities.

Some major developments the government has served notice it would undertake to is revamp operations of Ghana Post to make it viable.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Kwaku Sakyi Addo has stepped down after being in the position for the past six years.

He will take up a new role as the Board Chairman of the industry regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA).

A statement issued by the Chamber on Sunday, April 09, 2017 said Mr. Sakyi Addo’s successor will be announced in “due course”.

The corporate communications expert who has been leading the Telecoms Chamber since 2011 as its first head, is credited with building the Chamber from nothing to its current significant position in the telecommunications industry.

Kwaku Sakyi Addo ensured a proper understanding of the telecoms industry in Ghana and set the Chamber apart as an effective advocate for telecom operators.

In his remarks, he said, “I am very proud of the work that the Chamber has done in aligning our members around key industry initiatives, driving important advocacy programs and building an enviable industry association. I’m grateful to the Governing Council, our entire membership and, of course, the Chamber staff for their support over the last six years.”

The Chairperson of the Governing Council of the Chamber  and CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Ms. Yolanda Cuba remarked that, “Kwaku has made a significant impact during his tenure with the Chamber. He has built a strong organization focused on our industry’s priorities and advocating effectively on behalf of mobile operators and infrastructure sharing companies across the country.”

“We are naturally disappointed that Kwaku has decided to move on to a new opportunity, but we wish him every success as he takes this next exciting step in his career,” said Ms. Cuba.

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has welcomed the appointment of the new Minister of Communications (MoC) and Director General (DG) of the National Communications Authority (NCA), with an industry cocktail held at its offices.

The Chamber organized an industry cocktail on Tuesday  (February 21st 2017) to welcome the Communications Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful and the DG Mr. Joe Anokye.

The private cocktail was organized to provide a platform for industry stakeholders to network and build sustainable working relationships with the appointees to further enhance the development of the sector.

“This government is willing to work with the private sector. I have no doubts that Telecommunications is the biggest and best-performing industry in Ghana today,” said Mrs Ekuful. Hon. Ursula has served on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications in the lastParliament and held managerial roles with Westel Telecommunications and Zain Telecoms in 2009.

On his part, Mr. Anokye said “the Regulator will collaborate with service providers to enrich formulation and implementation of all sector policies to achieve a win-win outcome for government, players and consumers”. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Anokye was a Telecommunications service manager at NASA in the United States.

Mr. Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, CEO of The Chamber, said: “this new appointeesbring a wealth of corporate, legal, legislative, technical experience and insights to the Ministry and the NCA. We are confident that they’ll bring these to bear in this new industrial revolution which telecommunications is today.”

The Chairman of the Telecoms Chamber, Mrs Yolanda Cuba said in her remarks, “the industry players will work with government to ensure a thriving sector which empowers and impacts the lives of Ghanaians.

Key officials attended the private cocktail from the NCA, MoC, Telcos, Tower Companies, Parliament, Revenue Authority, Environment Protection Agency, Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, Radiation Protection Institute (GAEC), Google Ghana, Media, other industry players and their representatives.
