She was awarded a symbolic $1 (77p) in damages that she had sought.

Mr Mueller had originally tried to sue the pop star, saying that her claims had cost him his job. But that lawsuit was thrown out by a judge last week.

On Monday, the jury also rejected similar claims Mueller had made against the singer’s mother, Andrea Swift, and her radio liaison, Frank Bell.

In a statement following the verdict, Ms Swift said: “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this.

“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”

The assault took place during a Denver stopover on the singer’s Red tour.

Mr Mueller, then a host on the radio station KYGO, had been invited to meet her before the show.

The singer complained to KYGO and the station fired Mr Mueller two days later.

Last Friday, Ms Swift’s former bodyguard gave evidence, supporting her sex assault claims by testifying that he saw the DJ reach under her skirt.

Greg Dent told the Colorado court he “did not see his hand touch her physically”, but “saw his hand under her skirt”.

The DJ made the same claims against the singer’s mother Andrea Swift, and her radio liaison, Frank Bell. A jury will now decide if they are accountable for Mr Mueller’s sacking.

Ms Swift, 27, has countersued the DJ for allegedly groping her after she agreed to pose for a photo with him and his girlfriend.

She is seeking a symbolic $1 in damages, which she has pledged to donate to charity.

The ruling against Mr Mueller came on the fifth day of the trial.

Mr Dent explained he did not act because “he didn’t sense danger after he touched her”, and Ms Swift did not signal that he should intervene.

The Shake It Off and I Knew You Were Trouble singer, however, later complained and Mr Dent confronted Mr Mueller at the event.

His testimony came a day after Ms Swift took the stand to describe the incident, calling it a “definite grab. A very long grab.”

When Mr Mueller’s lawyer, Gabriel McFarland, asked why her bodyguard did not interfere when the alleged incident happened, the pop star said: “No-one could have expected this to happen.

“It had never happened before. It was horrifying and shocking.”

Mr Mueller’s ex-girlfriend who was also in the photo, Shannon Melcher, also testified on Friday.

She said she noticed nothing amiss during the brief meeting and that she and Mr Mueller were rudely escorted out of the arena later that evening.

Ms Melcher added that Mr Mueller was devastated by the allegations.

Mr Mueller’s former radio show co-host, Ryan Kliesch, testified that he did not know his former colleague to be disrespectful toward women.

He added when he heard the allegations, he “thought it was a joke”.

Ms Swift, 27, accuses broadcaster David Mueller of slipping his hand under her dress while they posed backstage together at one of her 2013 concerts.

Her lawyer said in his opening statement at the court in Denver, Colorado, that Mr Mueller had “grabbed her rear end”.

Mr Mueller sued the singer in September 2015, calling her allegation false.

He said she had cost him his $150,000-a-year job as a host at country station KYGO-FM.

Ms Swift – who was in court on Tuesday – countersued a month later, saying what occurred at the city’s Pepsi Center was assault and battery.

On Tuesday, jurors were shown a photograph of the alleged assault at a VIP room meet-and-great before the gig on 2 June 2013.

In the picture, Mr Mueller and his then-girlfriend, Shannon Melcher, stand with Ms Swift in the middle.

All are smiling, and Mr Mueller’s right hand is hidden behind the Shake it Off singer.

Mr Mueller’s lawyer, David McFarland, said in his opening statement the image shows his client’s hand “is not underneath Miss Swift’s skirt, and her skirt is not rumpled in any fashion”.

“David Mueller unequivocally denies he touched her inappropriately in anyway,” Mr McFarland said as his client looked on in court.

“Falsely accusing someone of inappropriate touching is equally offensive, equally wrong and should not be tolerated.”

In his opening statement, Mr Mueller said he had only sued “to clear his name and for lost earnings”, denying reports that he was seeking $3m in damages from the radio promotions director of his former station.

But Ms Swift’s attorney, Douglas Baldridge, said Mr Mueller had given seven accounts of what happened.

He had also destroyed taped conversations about the incident with his bosses, said the lawyer.

Mr Baldridge told the eight jurors: “What’s wrong with this picture? A woman gets assaulted, a woman reports it, and she gets sued.”

He added: “It’s not inappropriate touching. It’s assault.”

On 3 June, Mr Mueller met his bosses. He was fired the next day on the basis he had violated a “morals clause”, according to Mr McFarland.

Ms Swift, who was 23 at the time of the incident, is suing Mr Mueller for the symbolic amount of $1.

Wearing a dark blouse and with her hair pulled back, she was accompanied in court by her mother Andrea.

Ms Swift also attended jury selection on Monday.

Her fans, known as Swifties, waited outside court from the early hours for a chance to get one of the court’s 32 public seats.
