The Management of SIC Insurance, Ghana’s preferred insurer and the leadership of the Professional footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has announced an insurance cover for players of the Ghana Premiere League.

This was made known over the weekend when a delegation from both sides visited the coach and some players of the Asante Kotoko team who are still on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after the team’s car crush in a tragic accident on their way to Kumasi from Accra after a Premier league game with Inter Allies.

The delegation which was led by the Acting Managing Director of SIC Insurance, Mr. Faris Attrickie on the side of the Insurance Companies and Mr. Tony Baffoe, the General Secretary of the PFAG alongside other officials of both parties told the media and the Kotoko playing body at the Baba Yara stadium that the visit was to show solidarity with the injured players and to assure them that various insurance packages are in place to support them.

Speaking at the event, the Ag. MD of SIC Insurance emphasized that the PFAG and SIC started working on this project about 3 years ago and finally launched it last year under PFAG’s “Life after football Fund” in Accra.

Explaining further the Ag. MD of SIC stressed that the cover provides benefits for both temporal and permanent disabilities, death and other defined situations which all goes to benefit any player plying his trade in Ghana Premier League because premium for the insurance policy has been paid in full by the PFAG. He applauded the PFAG for their foresight and encouraged other sporting disciplines to learn from their example.

On his part, the General Secretary of the PFAG, Anthony Baffoe, commended SIC Insurance for the role they have played so far and called on all football administrators, players and other stakeholders to continue to support this initiative to breathe life into our local football.

SIC Insurance Company Limited, Ghana’s largest Insurer has given a cheque of GHS70,400.00 in support of the Pediatric Emergency  Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The donation is to facilitate the purchase of two equipments; a Pediatric Fiber-Optic Bronchoscope and an Endocardiagram for the emergency children’s unit of the hospital.

[contextly_sidebar id=”lHttZk983hU56rae1dDXI1u9dUlpwf7y”]KATH contacted SIC Insurance last quarter of 2016 to support them with the purchase of the equipments and management of the leading Insurance company has followed up with this donation.

The Ag. Managing Director of SIC Insurance, Mr. Faris Attrickie, who gave the information also said the campany saw the need to support KATH especially the children’s unit because the company has Corporate Social Responsibility programmes which focuses on health, education, sports and community development.

Mr. Attrickie added that the care and protection of children should be a practice and principle rooted deep in the wisdom and culture of all societies, because of the vulnerability of children especially in Africa.

He said it is sad to witness about three million children under five years of age die each year in the African Region and a significant number of these deaths could be prevented if both corporate and political leaders pay attention to pediatric care and put child’s healthcare needs first. This must be done because children are not just miniature adults, they are our hopes and dreams of today and tomorrow he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Joseph Akpaloo said the hospital is extremely grateful to SIC Insurance for its generous donation to the Emergency Children’s Care unit which ensure children and youth have access to high-quality medical health care services.

He added that the equipment will surely enrich the health service in the Ashanti and neighbouring regions. He also called on other corporate bodies to follow SIC Insurance’s example by supporting the hospital.

KATH is the second-largest hospital in Ghana, and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region.

It was the main referral hospital for the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions of Ghana until the Tamale Regional Hospital was upgraded to Teaching hospital hence handling referrals from Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions thereby easing some pressure on KATH.

Management of SIC Insurance Company Limited has assured its customers and stakeholders to remain calm following a case the company is battling in court against non-bank financial institution, Ivory Finance.

The two companies have been in a long standing legal and board room battle over the debt which came up after SIC guaranteed a 14 million cedi Italconstruct project for 19.3 million cedis in 2013, but Ital, a construction company, failed to pay its lenders, Ivory Finance.

Ivory Finance subsequently secured a court order, empowering it to access SIC’s bank accounts to retrieve the monies owed it, which at the time of going to court had hit 91 million cedis due to interest accrued.

[contextly_sidebar id=”xjxAp8VIphhbcJ4Q3ip5jxpOQNHRrgtA”]SIC subsequently went to court seeking a stay of execution of the order, until other matters it had raised on the matter are dealt with.

The case has however been a point of discussion in a section of the media in recent times.

Meanwhile, a statement from SIC said it [SIC] has a good case and will fight the matter in court to its logical conclusion.

“Management believes and is fully convinced that SIC has a good case and shall prove this in court and not in the media. We therefore feel restrained from being lured into discussing the matter in the media. We will however pursue the matter in the courts to its logical conclusion.”

“Management wishes to assure our numerous loyal customers, shareholders, other stakeholders as well as the general public that SIC remains very strong, continues to do brisk business, and is honouring its obligations to clients better now than ever,” the statement added.

Below is the full statement for SIC:

SIC Insurance explains case with Ivory Finance

The Management of SIC Insurance Company Limited (SIC) has noted with concern, media reports about a case in court involving SIC and Ivory Finance Company Limited (Ivory). The purpose of this statement is to clarify aspects of this matter being discussed in the media.

Management views with great displeasure, the on-going discussions by parties/solicitors to the case in the media, including; lies, fabrications and exaggerations designed to create a parallel court /media trial whilst the case is in court, and by that cause damage to our hard-won reputation and business.

Management believes and is fully convinced that SIC has a good case and shall prove this in court and not in the media. We therefore feel restrained from being lured into discussing the matter in the media. We will however pursue the matter in the courts to its logical conclusion.

The last proceeding in court was the grant of a stay of execution of the consent judgment to SIC. A decision which SIC is advised by its lawyers that the Court had accepted that SIC does indeed have a case to be heard.

SIC believes in the rule of law and have faith in our judicial system. We urge our loyal and cherished customers, business partners, well-wishers shareholders and the general public to be patient and await the Court’s decision on this matter because Management is confident that the final decision will be in favour of SIC.

Management wishes to assure our numerous loyal customers, shareholders, other stakeholders as well as the general public that SIC remains very strong, continues to do brisk business, and is honouring its obligations to clients better now than ever.
