Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has mooted that it is high time Ghana adopted Sharia law for sexual offenses like rape.

According to the ‘King of Comedy,’ Sharia Law would serve as a deterrent to people who forcefully have carnal knowledge of others.

He made this comment on the back of the high rate of defilement cases in the country.

“Sharia law might be crude and extreme but thinking about it, it serves the culprit the same diner he served the victim. If your manhood is cut off for defiling a minor to the point of needing surgery, you will get to understand what you also put the victim’s life into,” he told Citi Showbiz.

He further explained that he loves Sharia Law for sexual offense because it is ‘a no excuse’ kind of law which involves punishments that would prevent perpetrators of crimes such as defilement and rape.

What is Sharia Law?

Sharia is the law of Islam. It is cast from Prophet Mohammed’s words, called hadith, his actions, called sunnah, and the Qur’an, which he dictated.

Sharia law itself cannot be altered, but the interpretation of Sharia law, called fiqh, by muftis (Islamic jurists) is given some latitude.

As a legal system, Sharia law is exceptionally broad. While other legal codes regulate public behaviour, Sharia law regulates public behaviour, private behaviour, and even private beliefs.

Compared to other legal codes, Sharia law also prioritises punishment over rehabilitation, and the penalties under Sharia law favour corporal and capital punishments over incarceration.

Of all legal systems in the world today, Sharia law is deemed the most intrusive and restrictive, especially against women.

Some Sharia punishments

Punishments of Sharia Law range from lashes, cutting of a culprit’s hand, to death.

In some jurisdictions, those who commit adultery will be stoned to death if the adulterer was married and lashed 100 times and exiled if he or she was unmarried.

Those engaged in sodomy (homosexuality) will be sentenced to death, along with those who ‘spy for the unbelievers’.

Those who steal ‘as part of banditry’ will have their right hand and left leg cut off, and the punishment for terrorising people is exile.

Rape is completely forbidden in Islamic law, and is a crime punishable by death.

In Islam, capital punishment is reserved for the most extreme crimes which harm individual victims or destabilise society. Rape falls into both of these categories.

Islam takes very seriously the honour and protection of women. The Qur’an repeatedly reminds men to treat women with kindness and fairness. Rape is a horrible crime which causes a women humiliation and physical harm.

Online dating can be tough, especially when you’re surrounded by thousands of other people all searching for the perfect match.

With so many profiles and dating sites across the web, you’ve got to stand out to be successful.

That’s why we’ve compiled our seven top tips for making the most of your profile page and finding the right partner online.

From which clichés to avoid, to picking the right selfie – we’ve got it covered.

1. Short and sweet

It’s not an autobiography – so don’t turn it into one.

Women especially have a tendency to overwrite when it comes to profiles – but for many people, endless blocks of text can be a big turn off.

Sum yourself up briefly, and if your potential match wants to know more, they can ask you personally.

After all, leaving some questions unanswered is a great way to open up a conversation.

2. Avoid clichés

It’s all very well telling everyone you’re looking for a man that can make you laugh, a girl with a nice smile or that your ideal date is a walk along the beach.

But if you want to stand out and bag a date, you’re going to have to be a little more creative.

Turn words into pictures and replace those clichés with something that makes you, you – what are your ambitions, what countries do you most want to visit, and why?

3. Update your profile regularly

Thousands of people are joining online dating sites every week, so keep your profile fresh and renew your page every so often.

Likewise, a new picture every few weeks can make all the difference.

4. Say cheese

Your profile picture speaks a thousand words, so avoid grumpy pouts, or group holiday snaps.

It’s a good idea to match your photo to your interests – are you a traveller? Do you enjoy yoga? What’s your favourite sport?

Another handy tip is to look at the camera – don’t hide behind sunglasses, eye contact is engaging and attractive, as is a big smile to draw people in.

5. Turn negatives into positives

Stay upbeat, even when discussing the not-so-positive aspects of life. A negative tone is an instant turn off.

Think of your profile as a dating CV – you wouldn’t want your employer to read anything negative right? Well, the same goes for a potential partner.

Focus on the things you’re passionate about.

If you’ve got children, for example, make a point of the fact that you’re a family person and looking for someone with the same values.

6. Mention your hobbies

Bored of golf? There are plenty of tennis courts on the Algarve
Finding something in common can help spark conversation

Bringing up your hobbies can help you connect with suitable matches in an instant.

It can also help you find things in common and spark conversation.

Focus on what makes you social – outdoor sports, teaching and group activities are a good start.

7. Check your spelling

You’d be surprised how many people find poor grammar and spelling a turn off, and the best of us can make mistakes, so be careful and make sure you proofread your page before pressing ‘submit’.

One quick way to do this is to write your profile in a Word doc and use spell check to make sure no silly errors slip through. When you’re done, you can just copy and paste your perfectly proofed profile.
