The management of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has described as insulting the response from the Centre’s former CEO to allegations that vehicles meant for the  Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), purchased during her tenure, are wasting away because they were overpriced.

Speaking to Citi News, the current CEO for MASLOC, Stephen Amoah, urged the former CEO, Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, “to come with specifics and debate,” following a statement she released denying the allegations.

[contextly_sidebar id=”twYSzXp0h3QgMgu8JNqH8NLgebgDEk2c”]He said he was surprised “at the way she insulted her colleagues and other men” in her statement.

According to the current MASLOC administration, the cars, numbering 350, were being sold for $9,000 in the showrooms of MAC Auto & Spare Parts, but had been purchased at a cost of about $16, 000 per vehicle from the same company resulting in a reported loss of about $2 million.

The Statesman Newspaper had first reported that the 100 Chevrolet Spark vehicles, 150 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles and 100 Izusu buses, had been left out in the open after GPRTU refused to buy them at the excessive prices after the current administration sought to prevent losses.

Mr. Amoah noted that, he had not given a “defined figure so far as the prices of those cars procured under her tenure are concerned, but the fact of the matter is that, the prices are way above the market prices or average.”

“Do you know the amount of harm she has done to this country? Very soon it will come out. I am not ready to rush in to say anything because there are other legal institutions that are performing their obligations or duties and very soon, you will get the results.”

Mr. Amoah further said the former CEO was being insolent with her reaction, and not acting in good faith, but is confident the truth will eventually put the matter to bed.

“…I am surprised that she is not even going into hiding and praying, but she is going about insulting other people and displaying gross disrespect… very soon the supporting documents will come out and Ghanaians will judge who is lying and who is telling the truth.”

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari apologized to fans for failing to lead the host to the World Cup final, saying the ”catastrophic” defeat to Germany on Tuesday marked the ”worst day” of his professional life.

”I have to apologize for the negative result, for not being able to reach the final as we all wanted,” Scolari said, speaking calmly after the humiliating 7-1 loss.

Scolari took full responsibility for the drubbing, and said he knows that it’s very likely that his career may be defined by what happened at the Mineirao Stadium – even though he also led Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title.

”Naturally, if I think about my life as a player and as a coach, I think this was the worst day of my life,” Scolari said. ”I know I’ll probably be remembered for losing 7-1 to Germany, for Brazil’s worst loss. But it was a risk I knew I was taking. I have to take responsibility for it. Life must go on for everybody.”

The coach said he has to find a way to learn from the ”catastrophic loss” in front of the home crowd. He said there are ”no excuses” for what happened, not even the absence of star striker Neymar, who was ruled out of the tournament because of a fractured vertebra sustained late in the match against Colombia in the quarterfinals.

“They (Germany) probably would have done it with Neymar playing,” Scolari said. ”I don’t think there’s any reason for us to suppose that with Neymar it would have been different.”

He said the ”very high quality” of Germany was the reason for Brazil’s disappointing elimination at the home tournament.

”They took advantage of their chances, they are very good,” he said.

Scolari was vivid on the sideline as Brazil pressured Germany in the first few minutes. After Brazil conceded the third goal, he kept asking players to be calm, but as the Germans scored for the fifth time, the coach sat down on the bench and only sparingly came back to the sideline.

”It was one after the other, I think everyone blanked out,” Scolari said. ”There was nothing we could do. We panicked.”

Scolari declined to discuss his future, and the president of the Brazilian football confederation has always said that Scolari would remain as head of the national team no matter what. However, the coach is unlikely to remain with Brazil after Saturday’s third-place match in Brasilia. He had said in the past that he would like to retire after coaching in the World Cup, but recently said it’s still possible he would extend his career outside of Brazil.

”I don’t think I have any debts to pay,” he said about his time with Brazil. ”I did my job, as always.”

Tuesday’s result marked only the third loss for Scolari since he returned to the national team in late 2012. The others came in friendlies against England and Switzerland. He had led the team to the title of last year’s Confederations Cup, the World Cup warm-up tournament.

Nigeria is ready to talk to Islamist militants to negotiate the release of more than 200 abducted girls, cabinet minister Tanimu Turaki has said.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said on Monday that captured girls who had not converted to Islam could be swapped for jailed fighters.

Mr Turaki said that if Shekau was sincere, he should send representatives for talks.

The girls were abducted last month from a boarding school in the north-east.

A video emerged on Monday showing about 130 of the girls wearing hijabs and reciting Koranic verses.

The governor of north-eastern Borno state, Kashim Shettima, says all those seen in the 27-minute footage have been identified as the abducted schoolgirls from Chibok Secondary School.

The girls’ families have said that most of those seized are Christians, although there are a number of Muslims among them.

‘Boosting spirits’

Mr Turaki – who is special duties minister and chairman of a committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to find ways of reaching agreement with Boko Haram – said that Shekau should send people he trusted to meet the standing committee on reconciliation.

He told the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme that “dialogue is a key option” in bringing the crisis to an end and that “an issue of this nature can be resolved outside of violence”.

Correspondents say that the government appears to have changed its stance in relation to talks, because it initially suggested there would be no negotiations with Boko Haram.

Government information agency director Mike Omeri said late on Monday that the authorities would “use whatever kind of action” it took to free the girls, and that a military operation – with foreign help – was possible.

In efforts to confirm the identities of girls in the video, it was shown to some people in Chibok – the town where the girls were kidnapped – on Monday evening.

The chairman of the parents-teachers association at the school told the Reuters news agency that while seeing the video had “got parents apprehensive again”, the steps taken by the government and “the arrival of foreign troops” were boosting spirits.

But Dumoma Mpur said that so far she has not seen any government troops in Chibok.

Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the National Assembly to extend for another six months the state of emergency in Borno – from where the girls were abducted – and two other north-eastern states.

In another development, the US has revealed it is flying manned surveillance missions over Nigeria to an effort to find the missing schoolgirls.

A team of about 30 US experts – members of the FBI and defence and state departments – is in Nigeria to help with the search. The UK, France and China also have teams on the ground in Nigeria and an Israeli counter-terrorism team is on its way.

Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Alex Badeh welcomed such support and described the relationship between his country and the US as “mutual and strategic”.

British Foreign Office Minister Mark Simmonds will travel to Nigeria on Wednesday for high-level meetings to discuss further British assistance.

The governor of Nigeria’s Borno state says he has information on the whereabouts of about 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist group Boko Haram.

Governor Kashim Shettima said he had passed reports of the sightings of the girls to the military for verification.

Mr Shettima added that he did not think the girls had been taken across the border to Chad or Cameroon.

Earlier, France’s president offered to host a summit on Boko Haram.

“I suggested, with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, a meeting of Nigeria’s neighbouring countries” Francois Hollande said.

“If the countries agree, it should take place next Saturday” he added.

Countries neighbouring Nigeria, such as Cameroon, Niger and Chad, would be invited to the security summit.

Aides said the US, UK and EU would also be likely to attend.

The US, UK and France have already pledged technical assistance to the Nigerian government.

Meanwhile, President Jonathan said an Israeli counter-terrorism team would arrive in Nigeria to help in searching for the schoolgirls, who were abducted last month.

‘Slaves’

French troops entered Mali last year to push out al-Qaeda affiliated militants.

Both the US and UK distanced themselves from suggestions that they would send soldiers to take part in the military operation in the vast north of Nigeria.

“There’s no intention at this point to be putting any American boots on the ground” said US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel on Sunday.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron said it was unlikely Nigeria would ask for British troops to help, but he added: “I said to President Jonathan where we can help, please ask, and we will see what we can do.”

“I rang the Nigerian president to offer anything that would be helpful and we agreed to send out a team that includes some counter-terrorism and intelligence experts to work alongside the bigger American team that’s going out there.”

Mr Cameron later tweeted his support for a hashtag aimed at raising awareness of the abductions.

The US First Lady Michelle Obama has described herself and President Barack Obama as being “outraged and heartbroken” over the girls’ abduction.

Speaking instead of her husband in the weekly presidential address, she said: “What happened in Nigeria was not an isolated incident. It’s a story we see every day as girls around the world risk their lives to pursue their ambitions.”

Boko Haram has admitted capturing the girls, saying they should never have been in school and should get married instead. The group has also threatened to sell the girls as “slaves”.

Boko Haram has been engaged in a violent campaign against the Nigerian government since 2009.

It is thought the majority of the girls are Christians, although a number of Muslims are among those who were taken.

Chibok, from where they were abducted, is a small community where families are made up of members of both faiths.
