Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has resigned, saying in a televised broadcast from Saudi Arabia that he feared for his life, while also fiercely criticising Iran.

He accused Iran of sowing “fear and destruction” in several countries, including Lebanon.

Mr Hariri’s father, former prime minister Rafik al-Hariri, was assassinated in 2005.

The Hariri family is close to Saudi Arabia, Iran’s regional competitor.

Mr Hariri has been prime minister since December 2016, after previously holding the position between 2009 and 2011.

“We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of martyr Rafik al-Hariri,” he said in the broadcast from the Saudi capital Riyadh.

“I have sensed what is being plotted covertly to target my life.”

Mr Hariri also attacked the Iran-backed Shia movement Hezbollah, which wields considerable power in Lebanon.

Addressing “Iran and its followers” he said Lebanon would “cut off the hands that wickedly extend into it”.

Iran said the resignation would create regional tensions and rejected Mr Hariri’s accusations as “unfounded”.

Mr Hariri has made several visits in the past few days to Saudi Arabia, whose leadership is strongly opposed to Iran.

His announcement came a day after a meeting in Beirut with Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Kahmenei.

Taking up the prime minister’s office last year, Mr Hariri promised a “new era for Lebanon” after two years of political deadlock.

The coalition government he led brought together almost all of the main political parties in Lebanon, including Hezbollah.

Rafik al-Hariri was killed by a bomb in 2005 in an attack widely blamed on Hezbollah.

The first episode of the award-winning Airtel Touching Lives television series aired last weekend on multiple TV platforms.

The series, set to run for 13 weeks, will focus mainly on individuals and communities who are making their change in big and small ways to better their lives and that of others.

The first episode, which aired over the weekend, celebrated the efforts of two wonderful personalities – Ignatius Bugyei and Linda Boamah – whose stories inspire confidence, hope and change.

The episode also followed up with Emmanuel, the amputee shoemaker who received a new lease of life when Airtel Ghana provided an artificial leg for him two years ago.

[contextly_sidebar id=”TQDPJOmpKmxrC9XPtdLpG8zJC5skmrxJ”]Ignatius is the ICT teacher at Som Nyame Kodur Junior High School in the Central Region of Ghana. The Airtel Touching Lives team discovered that the school lacked the basic ICT setup (computers and teaching aids) which meant that the ICT instructor could only teach the theoretical aspects of the subject. For practical work to be done, Ignatius has to travel with his students to the nearest town, Twifo Praso located about nine kilometres from their school, where one of the schools has an ICT centre.

Apart from these daunting challenges for both students and teachers, the school also does not have electricity, their source of power – a solar panel – having broken down some years ago.

According to the teachers, it took a lot of sacrifice to be there as living in the town is quite http://vhealthportal.com/product/nexium/ challenging because of these issues of electricity and teaching aids.

In the spirit of helping people make their change, Airtel has promised to repair the solar panels and provide batteries so that electricity can be restored to the community. In addition, the company is renovating the school’s ICT centre and also providing computers and internet connection so students can gain practical knowledge of the subject.

The second story in episode 1 of Touching Lives 3 was equally heartwarming. It looked at how a young woman, Linda Boamah, who became paralysed when she convulsed at age 2, has become an inspiration for many in her community. Her sheer determination to make it in life pushes her to pursue an education although funding this dream proves to be a constant challenge.

Airtel, touched by her plight and determination, has promised to fund her education.

Clearly, the first episode of this year’s touching lives series has set the tone and interest in the multiple award winning programme.

The second episode of Touching Lives 3 will be aired again this weekend on Viasat 1, Metro TV and Multi TV (Joy News) on Friday; TV Africa, GTV and Multi TV (Cine Afrik, Joy TV, Hitz TV, Adom TV) on Saturday and TV3 on Sunday.

Airtel Ghana has officially launched its “Make Your Change” campaign, which challenges individuals, groups and society as a whole to be pragmatic about the change they want to see in their lives. The campaign is premised on the fact that, actions and emotions are contagious, and each one of us has the potential to transform lives through our actions and attitudes.

In line with this theme, the company also had a staff and stakeholder premiering of Season Three of its sterling award winning CSR programme, Touching Lives 3, which rewards individuals who are driving and making changes in the lives of others and their communities.

As the headline sponsor of Roverman Production, employees and stakeholders of Airtel Ghana were again treated to the premiering of Roverman Production’s Q3 production and 24th play, ‘Unforgiven’, in commemoration of the Production’s 6th anniversary.

These events took place at the National Theatre in Accra during an Airtel Ghana – Roverman Production programme dubbed ‘Make Your Change Day’ on Friday.

Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist, explained that Airtel believes strongly in the potential of every Ghanaian to succeed.

“We all carry in us the potential to transform lives through our attitudes and actions. As a brand, Airtel allows its staff, customers and stakeholders to develop and use their potential in ways that go on to impact their families, communities and nation. This is one of the reasons why we at Airtel have grown to become the 4th largest telecommunication company in the world and have the largest footprints in 17 countries across Africa,” she stated.

According to her, Airtel was proud of its partnership with Roverman Productions because of what they stand for and have propagated over the years.

“As a brand, our association with Roverman has been worthwhile – considering the authenticity of Roverman, the unique differentiating characteristics of Uncle Ebo and his team as well as the enormous opportunities and power of potential his plays and productions unleashes. We are proud to be partners in Roverman’s 6th anniversary celebration”, she added.

The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Director at Airtel Ghana, Hannah Agbozo, stated that Touching Lives 3, which is hitting our television screens from September 5th, 2014 and will run for 13 weeks, was going to be bigger and more exciting.

“With the help of the general public, we have selected outstanding personalities and groups to reward this season. We believe that by supporting them in their philanthropic ventures, we would in effect be touching the many lives they touch and also making a change as a business”, she explained.

She added that because Airtel wanted to support more people through the programme than it has done in the past, Touching Lives 3 will also have a radio edition which will commence immediately after the television series ends. She further explained that the general public could also support individual beneficiaries through Airtel Money and a short code which will be announced when the programme airs.

Earlier in the day, Airtel Ghana in conjunction with Roverman Productions embarked on the first ever ‘Convoy Float’ dubbed the “Audacity Convoy Drive”’ through some principal streets of Accra as they launched their ‘Make your change” campaign.
