Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Rachel Appoh, has accused some National Security operatives and three women at the Flagstaff House of assaulting her.

According to her, she visited the seat of government hoping to address some issues regarding her ex gratia package, when she was verbally assaulted and even pushed around by some irate National Security operatives.

[contextly_sidebar id=”2IVkJSolEVlXYBFjFXi1wraKgD6jegrp”]Narrating the incident to Accra-based Class FM, the former MP said : “I was following up on my ex gratia so I went to Flagstaff House and I was directed by the Ministry of Finance to go to the Chief of Staff’s office so I wrote a letter and sent it to the Chief of staff’s office. I was there and I realized that three women were verbally assaulting my secretary all because she had the NDC rubber band on her wrist… I later entered and I heard them say ‘This is Rachel Appoh’ and immediately they heard I am Rachel Appoh, they started verbally assaulting me. They were pushing me and someone held my right hand and was like ‘walk out , walk out this is not party office’.”

“One of the women, Aunty Naomi, asked me to leave the country if I can’t stay, and I told them I am not leaving the country today or tomorrow,” she added.

Ms Appoh claimed further that the women attacked her for insulting the President.

She however denied claims she had insulted the President, saying she had a very good relationship with the latter.

“The President came to my constituency two months to election. When people were greeting the President, he was seated, but when he got there he hugged me. I want to tell every NPP person that they do not know Nana Addo more than me. “

Her allegation comes in the wake of several attacks believed to have been orchestrated by groups affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The most recent involved one ASP Nanka-Bruce, who served at the Flagstaff House under the past National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, who was assaulted by men believed to members of the NPP vigilante group, Invisible Forces.

The New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary nominee for the Gomoa Central constituency in the Central Region, Naana Eyiah Quansah, has been described as a powerless person who cannot defeat the incumbent National Democratic Congress MP for the area, Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh.

According to the District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Jonamoah Jehu-Appiah, Appoh is a better candidate to win the polls.

“The point is that, whether she Nana Eyiah has a link to Gomoa Lome or link to Gomoa Central or not, the fact is that Nana Eyiah can never for whatever reason, beat Rachel Appoh. “Mark my words,” he said on Citi FM’s election analysis programme, Campaign Trail on Thursday.

Jehu-Appiah maintained that the vote margin will further be widened in this year’s election.

“…the 4000 plus votes between Rachel Appoh and Dr. Cudjoe who to me was a far better candidate than Nana Eyiah will be doubled.”

We’ll vote against Appoh

The DCE’s comment follows claims by some members of the NDC to vote against Rachel Appoh in the December polls.

They say the MP has been disrespectful to them.

The Benso Branch Organizer of the NDC in the Gomoa Central constituency, Cosmos Amoako told Citi News that they would vote “skirt and blouse” in the upcoming elections.

“There is no unity in the NDC party in this constituency, the party that Mr. Otchere Panyin left for her [Rachel Appoh] that is not how the party is today. She doesn’t respect anyone in the party. Party officials that helped the party to come into power have dissociated themselves from affairs of the NDC because the MP and the DCE do not respect anyone. They take arbitrary decisions for the party. The party could be affected by such attitude. Most NDC members here have decided not to vote for her. We have decided to vote skirt and blouse,” he added.

Claims of disunity in NDC untrue

But the DCE on Campaign Trail rejected the claims.

“I can tell you on authority that the NDC in Gomoa Central is a solid party. I had a meeting with constituency executives days back planning and arranging their programmes so far as their rallies and the campaign is concerned. There is no internal wrangling in the NDC in Gomoa Central.”

Some members of the governing National Democratic Congress in the Gomoa Central constituency in the Central Region have vowed to vote against their Member of Parliament, Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh in the December polls.

They say the MP has been disrespectful to them.

They say she and the District Chief Executive of the area has brought disunity into the party.

Some party members who spoke to Citi News claimed the MP who is seeking another term on ticket of the NDC had not executed any project in the area.

The Benso branch organizer of the NDC in the Gomoa Central constituency, Cosmos Amoako told Citi News that they would vote “skirt and blowse” in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the MP has executed a number of projects and has also lobbied for development for the people in the Gomoa Central constituency.

“If you take Rachel Appoh as a person and also as a Member of Parliament, compared to other members of Parliament that Gomoa has ever had, Appoh stands tall. She has brought in a lot of social interventions that has helped her people; she has succeeded in lobbing projects into this constituency that has helped her people.”

“As I speak with you, we are just going through tender awarding three school project, through her efforts, Gomoa Samkrom is about to benefit 14-seater aqua-privy. If you look at people who go through trade; seamstress, hairdressing, if they are 1000 in the constituency I can tell you that 90% of them have benefited from Rachel Appoh because she has supported them with materials that after the training they can be on their own. So the last time I checked, out of every 20,000 of her common fund, she spends close to about 60% supporting brilliant but needed students.”

The DCE also insisted that Rachel Appoh’s New Patriotic Party challenger, Naana Eyiah is no match to them.

“Naana Eyiah is not a match for Nana Adwoa,” he added.
