President Akufo-Addo has given assurances that he will not amass the country’s resources and wealth for his personal use, but use them judiciously for the country’s development.

He said, “we [government] are going to ensure that all the money that is mobilized by the government is spent in dealing with the issues that concern our people and that they do not find their way into my pocket or the pocket of my ministers. We are not going to allow that to happen again.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”hYjUQPW6gGlBWja54AzZSTBA4eeh1ZrA”]Akufo-Addo made the comment at a grand durbar of chiefs of the Upper East Region at Bolgatanga on Wednesday, 4th October, as he began his 2-day tour of the region.

In addressing the concerns of the chiefs of the Upper East Region on the deplorable nature of their roads, President Akufo-Addo noted that, “everywhere I go, the first thing people ask me is about their roads.

“…So this unprecedented infrastructural development trumpeted by my opponent in the last election could not have been about roads, it must have been something else. You yourself, have pointed out how very poor your network is. We are going to work on it,” he assured.

He stressed that the government was seriously considering plans of improving the country’s railway network.

He described as “the saddest and most egregious decisions” to allow the railway network inherited from colonial times to get into disuse.

“It is absolutely essential for the rapid development of our country that we connect our country by railway, and we are going to do it. Very, very soon, the Minister for Railways is going to roll-out, before the country, the exact plan that we have to redevelop our railway infrastructure. You can be sure that you the people of the Upper East Region, will be right in the centre of those considerations for railway development,” Akufo-Addo said.

He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring universal access to electricity to all parts of the country, and with the Upper East being the part of the country with the least access to electricity, 60% access, the President stated that it is necessary that every effort is made to accelerate the provision of electricity to the Upper East.

“So this year, 2017, and 2018, a total of 660 communities in the Upper East will be connected to the electricity grid, to expand electricity access to all in the region,” he added, receiving a rousing applause from the gathering.”

On the request made by the Chiefs for the revamping of the Pwalugu Tomato Factory and the Zuarungu Meat Factory, President Akufo-Addo assured that these two factories are receiving urgent attention from the Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen.

Akufo-Addo further appealed to the locals to support the government’s programs to help transform the country.

“I need the support of all of you, whether you voted for me or did not, whether you have supported my party or have not supported my party. In the period of my mandate, I will need your support so that together we can rebuild Ghana and let the Black Star shine and shine again,” he said.

Mr Rockson Bukari, the Upper East Regional Minister, has appealed to investors to partner with government to revive the defunct Pwalugu Tomato Factory in the Region, also known as the Northern Star Tomato Factory.

The Minister made the call when a television crew from the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in Germany paid a visit to the factory to do a documentary following a feature article written by Samuel Akapule, a senior journalist at the Ghana News Agency, on the state of the Factory.

Mr Bukari said apart from the 300 workers of the Factory who were laid off, more than 1,250 tomato farmers from communities in the Region who cultivated tomato to feed the factory were also out of job.

[contextly_sidebar id=”lFeRGLqFoxXVrYZhoA62A2SOgtQ3TLlQ”]He said no investor would regret to partner the Government to revamp the factory since it would improve revenue as the Vea and the Tono Irrigation Schemes and the vast agricultural land in the Region, could serve as arenas for the farmers to cultivate raw material to feed the factory.

“This Government is very passionate about private partnership that will help bring industrialisation and improve the lives of the people. We will, therefore, be very grateful with any investor who will want to partner with us to help revive this important national asset to create employment and wealth for the people, especially the youth,” Mr Bukari said.

Touching on what led to the closure of the factory, the Regional Minister said the problem was due to lack of leadership, political commitment and financial constraints.

He noted that the Factory, when put back on its feet, could produce to feed the country and export to neigbouring countries including Togo, Burkina Faso and Mali to earn some foreign exchange.

Mr Vincent Atarisaga, the Technical Officer of the Factory, explained the production stages and said all the machines were fully functional except the three vacuum pumps, which had problems.

He said the Factory had the capacity to produce 500,000 metric tonnes of tomato paste per day and that one of the major factors that collapsed it was the lack of machines for canning the paste, thereby compelling it to send the product to an Italian company in Accra to be canned.

Mr Joseph Beni, the Regional Crop Officer, said a new variety of tomato suitable for cultivation had been developed for farmers and that opening the Factory would support the Government’s Planting for Food and Jobs Policy.

Some of the farmers the GNA spoke to expressed disappointment at the state of the Factory and said they would be most grateful if the Government could fast-track the process of revamping it.

“We used to pay our children’s school fees and cater for our family needs without much problem when the Factory was in full operation but now most of us cannot do so, thereby causing rural urban migration, particularly the youth, who used to get employment from this Factory,” Mr Ibrahim Salifu, the Spokesperson for the farmers, said.

Ms Jaschke pledged to show the documentary on their television network and expressed optimism that it would help attract investors from Germany to partner the Government to revive the Factory.

If you’re going to get close to someone, physically or emotionally, at some point their personal hygiene will come into play. Does he brush his teeth on a regular basis? Does he shower as often as human beings should? Or is he like Zac Efron, who would rather not shower after a very sweaty game of basketball? Gross.

While sweating (because it’s natural) isn’t exactly a no-no, not showering after this aforementioned sweat can be the kiss of death in a relationship. Guys, just think about how you smell everywhere after such an activity. Shower, dudes, shower!

We asked women how they feel about men’s hygiene, what they’d put up with, what would make them run, and what, surprisingly, they find attractive.

#1. Sweaty can be hot.

Amanda, 25, was too embarrassed to admit it on Facebook, but she loves sweaty guys: “I LOVE sweaty dudes. Like not even lightly, just-worked-out fragrant, I like when it smells as if it’s been stewing and very strong. I don’t know why, I’m gross, I guess.”

“I know I REALLY like them if the sweat doesn’t bother me,” says Becky, 29. “Otherwise … not really a turn on.”

“Sweating just for the sake of sweating, no. Sweating in the sweltering heat or because we’re having sex, hot,” says Jen, 33.

#2. Wash up, or you’re not getting’ any.

“They MUST be washed. And not wear bad cologne. Or too much cologne. Really I just need to be able to breathe,” says Rachael, 25.

“I can’t even with dirty guys. I think it’s because I’m the type who showers two to three times a day in the summer. Even with guys I’ve loved, I’ve found their sweat or body odor repulsive. Maybe I haven’t found the right guy,” says Tanya, 30.

“If he hasn’t showered in a couple days and he’s not a smelly person, then it’s fine. But the one major MUST for me is awesome dental hygiene. If he doesn’t floss and brush regularly, I’m gone,” says Lizzie, 34.

#3. Cologne vs. au natural.

As we saw above, Rachael doesn’t like to be smothered with cologne, but what about other women? The men’s cologne industry seems to be thriving, after all.

“My husband is pretty good about his hygiene from an actual HYGIENE standpoint. I DO wish he were a cologne dude. I DO wish that he spent about 2 more minutes on his hair because that extra 2 minutes would take him from hot to MEGA hot, but I also know that he’s not a fashion dude. So … there’s a wishful thinking aspect, but he’s presentable and not smelly so I can’t complain,” says Colleen, 30.

“I’d been smelling Bleu de Chanel for months and loved it. So I bought some for my boyfriend, and no thanks. It smells far better in my magazine than it does on my man. I guess I love HIS smell way more,” says Lynne, 36.

“Aftershave is nice but cologne can be overpowering,” says Becky, 29.

#4. And for the unwashed hair debate?

Although she wasn’t crazy about cologne, Lynne does like stinky locks:

“I love unwashed hair on guys! I know this has everything to do with my childhood crush on Kurt Cobain. The smell really gets me excited,” she says.

“Love it! Besides, I rarely wash mine, so why should I expect he washes his all the time?” asks Leigh, 31.
