Tension was brewing in the Pru West constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region on Friday morning over the winner of the parliamentary election.

Whilst the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accepted the results by the Electoral Commission in the area, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims the results were rigged.

The provisional results indicated that Masawudu Mohamed of the NDC won the seat with 10740 votes to the 10694 polled by the Stephen Jalula of the NPP.

This discontent with the results led to the eruption of some confusion at the collation centre.

But the military were called in to ensure calm for the results to be declared, according to a Citi News reporter on the ground.

This did not go down well with some NPP supporters in the area who started throwing stones at a police post.

The angry supporters also vandalised a shop belonging to the deputy EC returning officer in the constituency and the palace of Prang Omanhene who is alleged to be an NPP sympathiser.

According to the Communications Director of the NPP in the area, one Faisal Sulemana, the NPP’s concerns were with the results from the Adapara polling station and the special voting results.

Mr. Sulemana claimed that the EC counted the special voting ballots without a representative from the NPP. But he said the EC ignored the party’s concerns and went ahead with the process.

Despite the earlier acts of vandalism, the military is currently overseeing calm in the area, according to reports.

The police have also said they have the situation under control.
