Twenty-seven applicants have been arrested by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command for presenting forged information and fake documents in this year’s Police recruitment process.

Chief Inspector Kingsley Augustine Oppong, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) in an interview with the media on Friday in Sunyani stated that they were seven males and 20 females.

He said suspects, who were currently on Police enquiry bail were from Techiman, Nkoranza, Sampa, Dormaa-Ahenkro and Nsoatre in the region, adding that the highest number of suspects were from Techiman

[contextly_sidebar id=”61JiDQUYn5rW1DR90Nde3erMOqfKVpXO”]Chief Inspector Oppong said suspects had been asked to report frequently to the regional Police headquarters to assist Police in their investigations, adding that more of such people might be arrested in the course of the exercise.

He said before the commencement of the exercise, the Police warned people with fake documents through the various radio stations not to apply but they ignored the warnings and were, therefore, going to face the full rigours of the law.

He mentioned forging of dates on fake birth certificates and tempering with academic results as the major offences by the suspects.

He explained that upon the arrest of 11 people on Monday, January 29, 2018, those with fake documents who were among the number scheduled for the next day did not turn up because they would have also been arrested.

The PRO said that had contributed to the drop of the 2300 number assigned for each day to 900 on the fourth day.

He said a total of 8,444 applications were received and by Sunday, February 4 those who qualified for the aptitude test would write an examination before qualification to the stage of health screening and medical examination.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the Police suspected there was a particular person behind that act of forgery since all suspects had similar documents which seemed to have been laminated to outwit the officials and the Police was investigating to arrest the one who was assisting the applicants in filling their forms with forge documents.

He appealed to the general public to volunteer information about the people behind such crimes to the Police for their apprehension adding that suspects would be arraigned before court after investigations on charges of forging of official documents.

The Ghana Police Service is to recruit 15,000 Community Policing Assistants through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

The youth, who would be employed, would be from the communities, and focus would be on those who are familiar with their communities, and could help the police in gathering intelligence to help reduce crime in the country.

This was disclosed by the Director of the National Police Patrol Department (NPD), Commissioner of Police (COP) Akuribah Yaagy, at a meeting with police personnel in Koforidua.

[contextly_sidebar id=”e0hadwZ88Xm6XtGinA5uUQ5obCVCYOzP”]He said the new policing concept would bring about development because once the communities were safe, the President’s vision of one village one dam, planting for food and jobs and one district one factory policies would be successful.

He said it is only when the communities are safe that investors would be motivated to invest in the country.

Mad rush for police forms; applicants stranded at GCB offices

A lot of Ghanaians are buying vouchers from the GCB bank nationwide to apply for recruitment into the Ghana Police service.

The Police Service last Monday began the process to recruit new personnel.

Scores of anxious applicants were last week left stranded at some branches of the GCB Bank Limited at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, following a system failure in the sale of electronic vouchers for the exercise.

Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, who visited the Asafo and Harper Road GCB branches in Kumasi, reported that some applicants who were mostly first timers, trooped these two banks around 3:00am to get the vouchers at the cost of Ghc50:00, but waited for over two hours before they were attended to.

The Ghana Police Service will from Monday 20th November 2017, begin a massive recruitment drive aimed at enlisting personnel into all sectors of the service.

A statement signed by the Director-General of Human Resources Development at the Ghana Police Service, COP Beatrice Vib-Sanziri, listed close to 50 units which qualified personnel will be absorbed to fill.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ljmaj25PQyVIVBNtNQKYrsnOwTmGcZrB”]The units include general duty, administration and health.

Interested persons are expected to purchase a voucher of GHc50 from the GCB Bank, to enable them apply online via https://police.gov.gh.services.

The statement added that, some of the potential recruits including those interested in “general duty” and “tradesman” will sit for a written examination after passing through the first stage of registration online.

Another set which comprises those applying as graduates and professionals, would also take an aptitude test.

The deadline for purchasing vouchers has been set on December 15, 2017, whilst online application closes at 23:59 hours GMT on Sunday 24, 2017.

The Police had embarked on a similar exercise in 2016 prior to the December 2016 general elections.

In that exercise, a total of 597 personnel were successfully recruited into the police service.

Recruitment into the police service and other security agencies, has become an avenue for scammers for years, who promise hundreds of despite people jobs and end up duping them.

Timbilla fired over 2015 recruitment scam

After two years of investigations into a botched police recruitment scam in 2015, a former Director General in-charge of Human Resource at the Ghana Police Service, COP Patrick Timbilla, was fired for his role in a major recruitment scam that hit the police service.

The former senior Police officer was interdicted after the incident, following his alleged role in the scam in January 2015.

Timbilla was subsequently placed under house arrest after he was implicated by some of the victims of the recruitment fraud.

A special task-force which was set up to investigate the matter, is said to have seen text message evidence and other correspondence between him and the victims of the scam.

In 2015, hundreds of men and women arrived at five police training depots for enlistments into the Ghana Police Service, but they were turned away after it was discovered that the enlistment was a scam and their recruitment letters were fake.

Addressing the parade at Pwalugu, Commissioner of Police (COP) Rose Bio-Atinga cautioned the new officers against laziness, drunkenness, extortion and untoward behaviour.

She warned that, acts by officers that dent the image of the Police Service shall be severely punished.

COP Atinga impressed on the officers to learn new skills and tactics during their policing career through further education to enable them to become senior officers in the service.

She also appealed to benevolent individuals and organization to assist the service to construct a police post and stations especially in communities where crime is high but without police presence.

She urged the general public to volunteer useful information about criminal acts in their respective communities to complement police efforts in the fight against crime.

Upper East Regional minister Rockson Bukari said, although the region is relatively peaceful, it is struggling with mob injustice, armed robbery, road accidents and fertilizer smuggling which requires aggressive strategy in fighting.

He urged the police officers not to expose their informants to suspected criminals.

Rockson Buakri said the government will continue to provide the police administration with the needed human and material resources to enhance the delivery of its mandate.

General recruit Ayisi Festus was named the overall best recruit.
