The Rwandan government has offered to help the Akufo-Addo administration undertake reforms in the country’s information Communication Technology (ICT) space.

President Paul Kagame made the offer when he met with Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on the sidelines of the ongoing Global Business Forum on Africa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Q57b8jlokzlLnNnjllTcGDkYIOi7wwNS”]The structural economic reforms being undertaken by the Ghana government, including the implementation of a National Digital Property Addressing System, the issuance of a National ID card, and the introduction of a Paperless Port system, have already received commendation from international bodies such as the World Bank.

Rwanda is known for its business-friendly environment, and is ranked the highest in Africa for the ease of doing business.

Explaining the offer from Rwanda, Ghana’s Deputy Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who accompanied the Vice President said:

“Rwanda, having taken a lead in that area already, is available, willing and excited, also in line with its Pan African interest to extend a hand to Ghana, and to assist us to even quicken the pace at which we are introducing a lot of these reforms especially reforms in the area of ICT. His excellency, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia also took him through some of the reforms that we have been embarking on, and the next stage is to now formalize the exercise of cooperation, and get a team together that can now more directly tap into the Rwandan experience when it comes to doing business, when it comes to plugging ICT into various aspects of our economic and governance life as a people.”

The Forum, organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is under the theme “Next Generation Africa”, and is taking place at Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah from November 1st-2nd, 2017.

The high-profile event, held under the patronage of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will explore new opportunities to enhance economic cooperation and expand trade and investment ties between the Middle East and Africa.

The two-day forum features a total of 24 sessions that will involve the participation of heads of state, ministers and dignitaries, policymakers, CEOs, prominent entrepreneurs, and heads of private banks, as well as UAE government and business leaders.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the METL Group in Tanzania, Mohamed Dewji, will be discussing the topic “Industrialization – the path to growth?”

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has thanked the people for re-electing him for a third term and criticised attempts to interfere in the country’s politics.

He was speaking soon after taking the oath of office at the Amahoro National Stadium in the capital, Kigali.

The ceremony was attended by dozens of African leaders and dignitaries.

Mr Kagame took 98.8% of the vote in the 4 August election, which has been criticized by rights groups.

New York-based Human Rights Watch said the election “took place in a context of very limited free speech or open political space”.

But the African Union observer team said the vote “was conducted in a peaceful, orderly and transparent manner”.

President Kagame was sworn in for a third term

Speaking on Friday, Mr Kagame said that “every attempt that was made whether from within and especially from outside to denigrate the process and glorify the old politics of division only made Rwandans more defiant and more determined to express ourselves through the vote.

“Our experience is that we will be vilified anyway, no matter what. So, we might as well do what we know is right for our people because the results are much better and the costs are much lower.”

The president also thanked his opponents saying they had “created a positive environment where no vote was cast against anyone, but rather all were cast for Rwanda”.

He was challenged by Frank Habineza, from the Democratic Green Party, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent.

Paul Kagame at a glance:

Supporters of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) carry a poster as they attend a campaign rally on August 4, 2010 in Kigali ahead of next week’s presidential election.

His rebel forces helped end 1994 genocide – he has been in power ever since

Twice invaded much larger neighbour, DR Congo

Accused of suppressing the opposition and ordering assassination of critics

Sees Singapore and South Korea as models – economy growing at 7% a year

Mr Kagame, 59, came to power in 1994, when his Tutsi rebel group took control of the capital, Kigali, ending the genocide in which some 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slaughtered.

Rwanda’s constitution was amended in 2015, following a referendum, enabling Mr Kagame to run for a third term.

Beyond this, he could run again, potentially staying in power until 2034.

His two challengers have complained that their supporters have been intimidated, which they say explains the low turnout at their rallies.

The candidates have also accused some local authorities of undermining their campaigns.

The ruling party denies any accusations of wrongdoing.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has won a third term in office with a landslide, the country’s electoral commission has announced.

Partial results of Friday’s election gave him 98% of the votes, it said.

Mr Kagame’s supporters, who say that he has brought stability and economic development after the horrors of the 1994 genocide, began celebrating before the announcement.

Critics – most of whom are outside the country – say he rules through fear.

After his victory, Mr Kagame vowed to keep up the country’s economic growth.

“This is another seven years to take care of issues that affect Rwandans and ensure that we become real Rwandans who are [economically] developing,” Mr Kagame said in a speech broadcast on live television.

Mr Kagame, who has been in power for 17 years, was challenged by Frank Habineza, from the Democratic Green Party, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent.

Another independent challenger, businesswoman and rights activist Diane Shima Rwigara, was disqualified by the electoral commission.

The remaining eight opposition parties did not put forward a candidate and instead backed President Kagame.

The president previously called the election “just a formality”.

Rwandans are going to the polls in presidential elections, with incumbent Paul Kagame widely expected to win his third term in office.

The 59-year-old is being challenged by Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana.

Mr Kagame is credited with the country’s rapid economic development since taking office in 2000.

But critics accuse him of suppressing dissent and political freedoms.

Polls across the country open at 07:00 (05:00 GMT) and will close at 16:00.

Mr Kagame, who represents the ruling RPF party, has widespread vocal support, the BBC’s Tomi Oladipo says.

The president has even referred to the vote as a mere formality, our correspondent adds.

Rwanda’s constitution was amended in 2015, giving Mr Kagame a chance to stay in power until 2034.

The two challengers have complained that their supporter are being intimidated, which they say explains the low turnout at their pre-election rallies.

The candidates have also accused some local authorities of undermining their campaign.

The ruling party denies any accusations of wrongdoing.

Ghanaian left-back Baba Abdul Rahman has signed for Bungesliga side Augsburg from Bundesliga 2 side Greuter Furth.

Rahman, who is a former Kotoko player, completed the move on Wednesday after going through his medicals.

Details of the move are undisclosed but the player will be wearing the number 12 jersey for Augsburg who finished 8th in last season’s German league.

Rahman will be replacing Matthias Ostrzolek who is going to Hamburg and the authorities at Augsburg are delighted with Ghanaian’s arrival.

“We are delighted to have taken Abdul Rahman Baba under contract. We are convinced that his sporting qualities fit in with our team. He is a young player who has the potential to develop and he also wants to prove himself in the Bundesliga,” said Stefan Reuter, the club’s Managing Director in an interview with the club’s official website.

Rahman himself was pleased with the switch and said:

“I am glad that the transfer worked out, because I again get the chance to play in the Bundesliga. I am sure that Augsburg will give me a very huge opportunity for me to develop here.”

Rahman joins the team with some experience after playing 20 times for Greuther Fürth in the 2012-13 German Bundesliga season.
