The Founder and Leader of the Calvary Charismatic Church (CCC), Ransford Obeng, has admonished Ghanaians to embrace 2018 with renewed hope and confidence.

He also called on Ghanaians to remain resolute and continue to seek God as they enter the new year.

According to him, 2018 is a year full of hope, and that all believers must maintain their relationship with their creator and seek his guidance in every situation.

Pastor Obeng spoke to Citi News after he delivered a sermon at a packed auditorium during the Church’s 31st Watch night service in Kumasi.

“God says I should tell Ghanaians that the same way they have sought his face and he answered their prayer, and they have been patient with him, they should continue to be patient. The same Lord knows their cry and as they continue to seek him, he will meet all their needs”, he stressed.

Pastor Obeng indicated that, the hope of every believer must be in their creator, and they must continue to call upon him in every situation they find themselves.

He also cautioned political leaders not to forget the God that has guided them throughout the previous year.

He said the current political leaders have started on a good note, and must continue to work hard to better the lives of the citizenry.

A 28-year-old self-styled Pastor, Bright Debrah, on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly robbing a taxi driver of GHȼ200.00 while wielding a knife.

Debrah is said to have pulled the knife on the driver whilst his accomplice, who is still at large, restrained the complainant by tying a rope around his neck.

Charged with conspiracy to rob and robbery, Debrah pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin Doku turned down a bail application put in by Debrah’s lawyer and remanded him into Police custody to reappear on January 2, 2018.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu said the complainant Christian Mantse works with a Pharmaceutical Factory and he drives his own taxi cab while the accused resides at Achimota in Accra.

Chief Adu said on December 10, this year, at about 20:30 hours Debrah stopped Mr Mante at Bubuashie and told him that he was going to East Legon.

The prosecution said after Debrah had bargained with the complainant on the fare another person joined the vehicle. On reaching a spot at East Legon, Debrah pulled a knife and ordered the driver to stop.

The accomplice tied the complainant’s neck with a rope from the back seat whilst the accused demanded and collected the cash of GHȼ200.00 from the complainant.

According to the prosecution, Debrah succeeded in removing the ignition key and threw same away.

Prosecution said the complainant shouted for help and that attracted the attention of a Policeman on duty nearby. The Policeman shouted at the accused to stop but he refused.

Debrah then threatened to stab a witness who attempted to apprehend him.

Prosecution said despite Debrah’s aggressiveness, he was apprehended by people around and escorted to the East Legon Police station with the knife.

The prosecution said efforts were being made to apprehend Debrah’s accomplice.

A Christian pastor has discovered one of the world’s largest uncut diamonds in Sierra Leone’s Kono district.

The diamond, weighing 709 carats, is now locked up in Sierra Leone’s central bank in Freetown. It is one of the 20 largest diamonds ever found.

Freelance, or artisanal, miners are common in Sierra Leone’s diamond-rich areas, reports the BBC’s Umaru Fofana.

But there are questions over whether the community will benefit from the gem stone, he adds.

Pastor Emmanuel Momoh’s discovery, which has not yet been valued, is the biggest diamond to be found in Sierra Leone since 1972, when the 969-carat Star of Sierra Leone was dug up.

It was first taken to President Ernest Bai Koroma on Wednesday evening before being locked up.

The president “thanked the [local] chief and his people for not smuggling the diamond out of the country”, a statement from the presidency says.

Mr Koroma said that the owners should get “what is due to them” and it should “benefit the country as a whole”, it adds.

The diamond is said to have a blemish inside that may diminish its value, our correspondent says.

Sierra Leone is well known for its diamond industry but it has had a chequered history.

Diamond sales partly fuelled the country’s decade-long civil war when rebel groups exchanged them for weapons.
This aspect of the conflict gained global exposure in the Hollywood film Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Djimon Hounsou.

There has been a spate of large diamond finds in recent years at mines in southern Africa, including a 1,109 carat diamond in Botswana in 2015.
