The Dagbon Students Association (DASA) has encouraged the Otumfuo-led committee of three eminent chiefs mediating the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, to fast track the implementation of the roadmap to peace in Dagbon.

The committee of eminent chiefs at its last meeting in Kumasi at the Manhyia palace resolved that funerals of the late two overlords of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II, should be performed in the old Gbewaa palace in Yendi.

A section of the Andani Royals in Dagbon led by the Gukpegu Naa Alhassan Abdulai is opposed to this latest development.

[contextly_sidebar id=”lUHpUT49N1NwCXzkuMnmSOSG6lQlhBoD”]They insisted the alleged kilelrs of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II must be prosecuted first before the funerals.

The Dagbon Students Association in collaboration with the League of Youth Associations and the Dagbon Youth for Peace at a news conference in Tamale, encouraged the Otumfuo-led committee to implement the agenda of performing the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.

The Association’s President, Jagbo Baako told Citi News that the youth of Dagbon were fed up with the age-long impasse between the Abudu and Andani royals.

IMG-20151230-WA0005

“We are in support of the performance of all funerals and the subsequent installation of a new Yaa-Naa. We are aware of the fact that the solution of the crisis lies in the hands of our traditional leaders and government should therefore hold them to all agreements that they have signed to in the past.”

He emphasized that “This is not the time to make a ‘U-turn’. We want government to know that it is not only royals that are in Dagbon: the non-royals are saying enough is enough.”

“Their interest alone should not supersede everybody’s interest because even other tribes that are in Dagbon are suffering from this and we need a final solution to this crisis now. The youth are saying enough is enough, we are tired.”

DASA is convinced performing the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II could be the panacea to ending the Dagbon the chieftaincy dispute.

IMG-20151230-WA0001

Jagbo Baako further asked the Otumfuo-led committee to ignore the machinations of chieftaincy contractors in Dagbon.

“The chieftaincy contractors should realize that they are jeopardizing our future and it is time for us to let them know that we are not ready for that again, enough is enough. We are not going to allow anybody’s action or inaction that stands to jeopardize our future the more and we are out to support anybody or any group of people that are ready to facilitate the peace process of Dagbon.”

He advocated the involvement of leadership of recognized youth groups in the Dagbon Kingdom during the implementation of the roadmap to peace.

The town of Have in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region was under siege on Tuesday after one Kitsi Bright, a suspected criminal accused of terrorizing residents, escaped from lawful custody for the second time in six months.

His escape sparked unrest in the town culminating in the youth vandalizing a police check point and a police station.

An angry protester, who spoke to Citi News on grounds of anonymity, said they vandalized the station because it has simply failed to serve them.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KP8vWCqycfug7SjWF4832kS0pDf3EpKu”]“This man [Referring to the fugitive] has been eluding the police for long so we the youth managed to arrest him and again he escaped. So what is the use of the police here” he asked.

“What is the essence of the check point? Is it just so the police can take Ghc1.00 from drivers?” They should park and go, we don’t need them” he said.

Kitsi Bright first escaped from the Have police on the 15th of July this year under bizarre circumstances that made the town folk suspect foul play, accusing the police of taking bribe to allow the criminal to escape.

On Monday December 27th 2015, Citi News sources in the town said, Bright had been arrested by the youth and handed over to the police, after he had beaten up his uncle and attempted to butcher his grandfather only for him to escape again under the watch of the police.

News of his escape went viral and rumours were rife that they police have been compromised again. This time, the angry youth chose to vent their spleen on the police thereby vandalizing the police station.

But for the timely intervention of the Ho SWAT team, the story would have been different.
On Wednesday, the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police service was in Have to reassure the youth of their commitment to recapture the suspect.

The Afadjato South District Commander, Tsumasi Ankrah, offered a reward of GHC 500 to anyone who will give credible information leading to the arrest of the escapee.

By 5:30pm the same day, the felon was located at a hideout in the outskirts of the town, where he was arrested by the town folks and handed over to the police again.

Speaking to Citi News, the District Commander, Twumasi Ankrah, confirmed the re-arrest of Bright and explained that he is currently in police custody at Kpando while investigation continues. Bright is wanted for among other things, stealing, inflicting machete wounds on people and terrorising the community.

The police have also commenced investigation into circumstances surrounding his escape and have promised that nobody will be shielded if found culpable.

There have been several cases of jailbreak this year across the country with the police administration doing very little to curtail it.

About a year after Samuel Nuamah-Donkor had been appointed Chief Executive of the State Transport Corporation (STC) now Intercity STC in rancorous and quite comical circumstances, he was quoted by a news portal on April 22nd April 2015, as having said that, “Intercity STC to name buses after national heroes”. That one of the things he planned to do was to name STC buses after leaders like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. Busia, J.J. Rawlings and J.A. Kufour and that of their wives, traditional leaders, past heroes etc.

How giving names to buses would improve STS’s efficiency, timeliness, safety, reliability, ensure profitability and recover STC’s once loyal passengers, now understandably and almost irrecoverably lost to VIP, OA Transport and other private transport operators I couldn’t rationalize, but Nuamah-Donkor sounded smug at his ‘invention’. I thought “silly idea”.

STC’s plethora of problems, as Nuamah-Donkor very well knows, will not be solved by naming buses after our leaders, past and present, dead or alive. In any case, how does being the wife of a Head of State make one a national hero? What apart from a scheme to enrich someone would drive such a project? So what if a bus named after J.A. Kufour is involved in an accident and is damaged beyond repair? Will they say J.A. Kufour is dead? I hope STC did not implement this not well thought out, misplaced idea.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FuCI0FbrlMjbIHFe1IkNNBHij9ycikcK”]Then last week it was revealed that our country, Ghana, had contracted Smarttys Management and Production Ltd; “Smarttys” owned by the fair complexioned, well connected, prominent NDC activist, Selassie Ibrahim, to brand (not re-brand) 116 new Metro Mass Transit buses with images of past and present Presidents and Heads of State of Ghana.

A pro-forma invoice from Smarttys dated 17th July 2015 addressed to the Minister of Transport put the cost of branding each bus at GH₵30,400.00 or US$8,444.00 (the cost of a brand new Hyundai i10 or Kia Picanto). This consisted of materials for spraying the buses (ie paint, thinner etc); Gh₵14,200.00, “Vision Stickers”@ Gh₵1250.00 each and, as per the quote for 8 of these stickers, Gh₵10,000.00 per bus.

These “Vision Stickers” are the “Transforming Ghana” ‘’Agenda for Transformation” etc stickers emblazoned on the buses. Going by the quotation, there should be 8 of these stickers on each vehicle.

If there are less than 8 per bus, the Attorney-General must prosecute Smarttys for fraud and initiate civil action for the recovery of the amount paid for this component of the contract. That is if there is a contract.

I suspect Smarttys may have sent a proposal which was accepted. Other aspects of the Pro-forma are; Cost of coated SAV sticker; Gh₵1,210.00, Labour for spraying; Gh₵3000.00 and “Labour Cost (I presume to fix) for stickers”; Gh₵2000.00. Total per vehicle: Gh₵30,400.00 or US$8,444.44 @Gh₵3.6 to US$1.00, at today’s bank rate.

Total cost to the Government and people of Ghana (the beneficiaries of this public awareness campaign):  Gh₵3,600,000.00, the equivalent today of US$1,000,000.00. One million dollars…. It will be interesting to know if Smarrtys has paid any tax on this income or whether tax was withheld before payment was made to them.

Some of those buses are parked at the State House car park. They’ve been there for months. The sight of them makes me cringe. The Smarttys job includes sticking bus window height photos in black and white of democratically elected former heads of State like J.J. Rawlings, J.A. Kufour, J.E.A. Mills, Edward Akuffo-Addo, Hilla Limann and K. A. Busia on both sides of the buses aft of the front doors.

bus

They are in Black and White as I’ve just said. There is no information on them, no indication who they are. Who are they? What do they do? Are they dead?  They seem to represent ‘‘The Past.’’

Separate and distinct from them to the front of the buses, in full living colour and framed with the Red, Gold, Green and the Black Star of our national flag is our current President, John Draman Mahama, ‘’The Current One” “The Living One” it would seem.

At least he’s “The Current One” and on that score alone he deserves highlighting, extra prominence, or? We are told that the purpose of adorning our buses with the photos of past and present leaders is to raise our awareness of their role, place and importance in our history or something like that and that a lot of people do not know who their past leaders are.

How a picture on a passing bus without words, dates or historical context educates a child or me, I’m not sure. Government spokespersons who lamely try to raise this ‘public education’ argument to defend this smelly contract should please accord Ghanaians some respect!

The public, except for some stubborn NDC die-hards and plainly dishonest people, has been generally and justifiably outraged at the cost of what it has rightly perceived as a reckless waste of our poor country’s resources and asked questions.

An educated woman cried on radio whilst contributing to the debate on this scandal. Of what benefit, save ballooning of the President’s image and his aggrandizement, his glorification, is this exercise going to achieve?

How was the decision to brand these buses to enhance the image of our President arrived at? Who arrived at the decision? Where, save for the Pro-forma Invoice from Smarttys, is the contract governing the deal?

So far, there doesn’t seem to be a contract in the public domain. Who authorized the payment of Smarttys from our precious oil production receipts? Is that proper? What else is being paid for from our precious oil receipts? Given the priorities we face as a nation, is this an important exercise and prudent use of our scarce resources?

At Martey Tsuru, where I live and which I cite regularly as an example of a neglected neighbourhood, we have a total of only about 500 meters of tarred road out of our 20km network. This cash would have helped construct the major roads in our neighbourhood. Looking unselfishly beyond my neighbourhood, I thought what a million dollars, properly applied would do in rural Ghana. It would have sunk a minimum of 360 hand operated boreholes, at a maximum cost (including a tidy profit) of Gh₵10,000.00 per borehole. Our village folk face the daily drudgery of looking for water. 360 boreholes would surely reduce that toil in many households and communities and water borne diseases will be measurably reduced both in kids and adults.

Clean water ensures a healthy life and 360 boreholes will ensure good health for thousands of Ghanaians. I thought of the reduced expenditure in health this would have meant. I thought how much that cash would have meant to our ailing Mosquito Control Programme and the rotting wards at Korle-Bu Hospital. In January, my friend’s company handed the completely refurbished First Floor Maternity Ward of Korle-Bu Hospital to the management. It cost a fraction of this ‘branding sum’ to do it.

But this is not the first time that the President’s image has adorned and been synonymous with a public asset. With increasing regularity and now frightening frequency, the President’s picture is used simultaneously with the Ghana flag when new projects are commissioned.

Examples are the recently commissioned Tettteh Quarshie, (Austrian government funded) footbridge and scores of billboards across Ghana proclaiming the launch of the President’s 200 school blocks project.

They are usually accompanied by a phrase under the President’s picture which says something like “Working for You”, “Building Ghana” “Transforming Ghana” etc. At what cost are these billboards constructed? What is the purpose? Until recently, there was a giant one in front of the Petroleum Commission’s offices at Dzrowulu.

There’s still one at the junction leading to Gomua Otuam (President Mills’ hometown) where the President recently gleefully and animatedly commissioned the first of these schools.

One may argue that the President doesn’t have foreknowledge about these billboards and banners, but I think the image of our President running concurrently with our flag when commissioning these projects is too glaring to escape his notice.

Is it meant to project his ‘achievements’ like the sad recent launch of a book highlighting his achievements? During the 2012 campaign period, RLG laptops paid for by the State and given free to puzzled school kids had the President’s photo on them.

A dash from him… I wonder whether those laptops really helped the kids, especially in ‘Dumsor Ghana’.

It’s almost Kim-il-Sunglike, Gaddafitype, Mobutuesqe and Eyademaish, this welding of huge photos of our President to our national colours and to state funded projects. The thing of image obsessed despots.

There seems to be no distinction between the President, his personal life and activity, his family, friends, private associates, his party and the State.

It’s eerily megalomaniac and despotic, narcissistic, this President’s picture on our new infrastructure thing. The difference from the above mentioned dead leaders is that our President is not a tyrant.

The President seems obsessed with a need to physically tag his name to infrastructural developments initiated or completed under his watch. How can one explain his commissioning of a fraction of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange or his elaborate re-commissioning/reopening last week of the Adomi Bridge which was closed for repairs?

It’s embarrassing and painful to watch such things. And physical infrastructure alone does not make a well governed country.

The President is an avid social media person. He’s on Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. I wonder if he has seen comments on this matter and given them thought. It’s a grave matter the use of our public purse. Every Cedi must count. Every Cedi must work positively for Ghana. Ghana’s money is for Ghana!! How would President Mahama have reacted if J.A. Kufour had put his pictures on these buses? How does he feel about the financial implications to our country of his personal ‘image building’ exercise when he drives past Parliament House and sees the buses? Prudent use of our cash? He must give this matter and scores of dubious, selfish, crooked schemes, hatched by people close to government and for personal/private profit, serious impartial thought.

President Mahama must shut himself off from family, friends, praise-singers, party men, everyone, and reflect soberly at his governance style, these contracts and their true implications and benefits to Ghana and exercise self-introspection on his governance and his tenure.

We cannot mortgage our country and its future to family, friends and cronies of government. The majority of Ghanaians are throttled by grinding poverty, lack of electricity and water, poor sanitation, malaria, lack of basic healthcare, high cost of living, poor education for our children, fear and uncertainty about the next day, their future and emasculating despair.

But some rogue business men and their loyal accomplices are carefully hatching painfully corrupt schemes to enrich themselves, their unborn descendants and their cronies in government at the expense of the masses.

A million dollars is now small change to people who prior to being associated with this government hadn’t done any measurable work or achieved anything for themselves. Dubious contracts like the Ameri and Karpowership deals will impoverish us further but they have been railroaded through to enrich a few greedy people.

They are NOT in the ‘best interest’ of Ghanaians. There is too much waste of our public purse; the continued purchase of hundreds of huge V8 Toyota Land cruisers and Nissan Patrols for every conceivable government functionary is a glaring example.

Can’t a Minister go to work in a 1.8L Nissan Sunny? Does he need a 5.7L V8 petrol fuelled Nissan Patrol? When painful ‘heists’ such as this painful branding deal occur, I remember Ivor Greenstreet shouting repeatedly at the President during the NDC National Delegates Conference a couple of years ago: ‘‘You Don’t Care!” Sadly I agree with Ivor on this.

I think J.J. Rawlings, J.A. Kufour and the families of Limann, Busia and Akufo-Addo should ask the state to remove their images from this ‘felony’. I sincerely wish they bravely would. Leda where are you? Stand up for your dad.

Our advertisers can tell us how much profit Metro Mass Transit could have made from “renting” the spaces used for this pointless (save for advertising the President) exercise to Indomie, Yazz, Agya Appiah and other products. Metro Mass Transit please let us know how much potential income you’ve lost.

Given the circumstances governing this contract and the actors and stakes involved, I doubt that the Chief of Staff’s inquiry will yield anything positive, nor will the Gh₵1,900,000.00 he’s ordered Smarrtys to refund to the State be retrieved.

Dzifa Attivor had to resign. She had no option. She hasn’t done anything epoch by resigning. What about this ‘financial loss’ that occurred under her watch? Shouldn’t charges of causing financial loss to the State, if established, be brought against those who handed out this contract? The questions are endless…

I have no case to make, no conclusions to arrive at, and no recommendations to make, except to share the anguish of Ghanaians in this matter and to appeal to the conscience of those in charge of our country.

‘’Ghana is for all of us”, it’s a common retort when people feel bullied or cheated.

To the disrespected, frustrated, cheated, hungry, angry people of Ghana, take heart: ‘’Dairris (There is) God”!!

All shall pass…

Make the most of a most dreary 2015 Christmas and go into 2016 with prayer.

God bless Ghana.

Prosecutors in the US have charged comedian Bill Cosby with aggravated indecent assault over an alleged incident in 2004.

It is the first time Mr Cosby, 78, has been charged with any offence after months of accusations.

Andrea Constand says she was drugged then assaulted at the Philadelphia home of the former US television star.

Dozens of women have accused him of sexual assault, dating back to the 1970s, but he has denied wrongdoing.

Earlier this month he opened a lawsuit against seven of the women, accusing them of defamation.

Prosecution allegations

Single charge of aggravated indecent assault
Incident occurred at Cosby’s home in 2004
Victim “frozen, paralysed, unable to move”
Charge punishable by five to 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine
Cosby will be formally charged in court on Wednesday

It is the second time there has been an investigation into Ms Constand’s complaint against the actor, who won acclaim for playing a family doctor and model father in The Cosby Show.

In 2005, after no charges were brought when she first made the accusation, she sued him and settled for an undisclosed sum.

He has previously said under oath he had a consensual sexual encounter with her.

Mr Cosby befriended Ms Constand through her job at Temple University and she came to think of him as “a mentor and a friend” before he allegedly made two sexual advances that were rejected, said prosecutors.

Documents from her lawsuit against the star were sealed until this summer, when damaging testimony was revealed as more women came forward.

The 12-year statute of limitations was only days away from expiring, in January 2016.
Kevin Steele, district attorney for Montgomery County, said they reopened the Constand case after “new information came to light”.

The prosecutors re-interviewed witnesses, examined evidence from the civil case and spoke to other alleged victims before they decided to file criminal charges, Mr Steele’s office said in a statement.

In testimony seen by the New York Times and published in July, Mr Cosby admitted he did sometimes give women a sedative, Quaaludes, when he wanted to have sex with them, but not without their knowledge.

At the height of his fame from The Cosby Show, the comedian was the highest paid entertainer on US television.

Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi says Chelsea are heading in the right direction after three games unbeaten since boss Jose Mourinho was sacked.

Mikel believes the arrival of Guus Hiddink as interim boss has helped the Blues start to recover from a low of 16th place in the Premier League.

“The atmosphere has improved since the change of manager,” Mikel said.

“Jose is a fantastic manager, but sometimes football is a cruel game and you have to move on.”

Mikel added: “He came back to the club a second time and won two trophies but now he is gone. Is it the right decision? We will only see in the future.”

The champions dismissed Mourinho on 17 December – at that moment they were only one point above the relegation zone – and turned to Hiddink to rescue their season.

Dutchman Hiddink also managed the Blues on a temporary basis for the final three months of the 2008-09 campaign.

Mikel is one of only a few players, along with defenders John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic, who were at the club during Hiddink’s first spell, which ended in FA Cup glory.

“He (Hiddink) hasn’t changed much yet, but he was here before and he knows the place and all the staff,” Mikel said.

“We are down there in the table for a reason so he cannot come in and perform miracles.
“We have had three games now without losing, so (we) are making the right steps.”

Mikel, who got limited game-time under Mourinho, making only two starts in five league appearances, could not explain Chelsea’s meek title defence this season.

“It is difficult when you are not playing, as you do not really know what the problems are,” Mikel added.

“I was not playing that much under Mourinho. It was a collective thing – the players and the manager were not performing.”

Chelsea, currently 14th in the table with 20 points, travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday, hoping to register their first win under Hiddink.

A woman believed to be in her thirties, Amina Moro, has been stabbed to death at Bibiani in the Western Region by a married woman believed to be her close friend.

The suspect, Mercy Nyamekye, 40 years, who’s on the run, lived in the same house with the deceased, who is a branch executive of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Bibiani Zongo.

Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Bibiani Ahwiaso-Bekwai District Police Commander, Superintendent Nana Kumi, said the deceased played a vital role in reuniting the suspect with her husband, after they had divorced shortly after their wedding.

The suspect Mercy Nyamekye.
The suspect Mercy Nyamekye.

Superintendent Nana Kumi said in what appears to be a fight over another man, Mercy Nyamekye, who was supposed to be staying happily with her husband who’s the Landlord, started picking quarrels with Amina about a new tenant in the house, whose name was only given as Moses.

He said confusion broke out some two months ago between the two after the suspect, accused Amina Moro of having an affair with Moses, something which did not go down well with her since she also appeared interested in Moses.

The constant misunderstanding according to the Police Commander, compelled Moses to move out of the house.

Superintendent Kumi further explained that on December 28, Amina and Moses who still had a close relationship, decided to visit Mercy’s husband, who is the Landlord.

“Between 9 and 10pm, Moses saw Amina on the streets and decided that they should go and wish the Landlord Joseph Nyanu and his wife Mercy Nyamkye a merry Christmas. On their way, Mercy Nyamekye hurriedly bypassed them and got to the house before the two arrived. When the two arrived, a scuffle ensued between Amina and Mercy again that required the intervention of the Mercy’s husband.”

The Police Commander said Mercy Nyamekye continued her scuffle with Amina but was stopped by her husband Joseph Nyanu, who locked her [Mercy] in the room, to prevent her from fighting Amina.

Unknown to Mr. Joseph Nyaunu, his wife jumped out of the room through the window, and stormed Amina’s room, where she stabbed her in the chest with a pair of scissors and a knife.

She absconded after the incident. Amina Moro died whiles she was being taken to the Bibiani Government Hospital.

Superintendent Kumi told Citi News the police are on the lookout for Mercy Nyamekye. The body of Amina, a Muslim, is undergoing Islamic rituals for burial.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr, has charged government to pay heed to the needs of Ghanaians in order to give meaning to the nation’s democracy.

A recent report stated that despite an increase in citizen participation in governance,  the government has failed to address the issues and complaints of the people.

Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr told Citi News that in order for government to achieve the level of development it desires, it must first listen and address the concerns of the people.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GnyxqxC76pSttcf7oDUZtnqWqpJP5xia”]”The first step is to hear the citizens, get their voices out and that has been the drive for many institutions we’ve managed. There are two elements, the supply side, capability and preparedness. Sometimes we find that even the office bearers who are supposed to be doing something or other, don’t do it, not because they are bad guys but they are not equipped to do it  or they don’t know how to do it. There is a capacity deficit on the part of the supply side which has to be addressed, he said”

Professor Sawyerr also called on Ghanaians to actively advocate for the change they seek and work hard to ensure that it its given to them.

“We also require a much more confident citizenry that doesn’t just voice concerns but actually demand that right that things be done and monitor it,” he added

Two men who were detained by the police in connection with the murder of a Police constable at Weija in Accra, will be arraigned on Thursday December 31.

The alleged cop-killers, Kweku Badu and Ishmael Ahenkorah, were taken into custody by the Brong Ahafo police at Goaso following a tip off.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KsBLXIqrFp88FxchKP48TnlgVyAr95dS”]Constable Charles Akatta, who was in his late thirties, sustained the fatal gunshot wounds during a shootout with a gang of robbers and passed on shortly after being rushed to the hospital

ASP Christopher Tawiah of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, told Citi News investigations were still ongoing and that the police were searching for other accomplices.

“The police are investigating and we’ve gone far since the offence was not committed in Brong Ahafo; so we need to do some initial investigations to ascertain whether there are more of them in Brong Ahafo so that we can also proceed and arrest them and then afterwards, we’ll hand them over to the National headquarters,” he said

He added that the two in police custody will be charged tomorrow [Thursday] after which an official report would be sent to the Police Headquarters in Accra.

“They are currently in police custody in Sunyani and we’ll be taking them to court tomorrow [Thursday] for them to be remanded”.

Lawyer for hiplife artiste, Wisa Greid, Jerry Agbenovor, has mounted a defence for his client, saying he only showed a dildo and not his genitals during a live performance at the Accra International Conference Center.

A dildo is an object having the shape and often the appearance of an erect penis, used in sexual stimulation.

Wisa is facing prosecution for exposing his genitals on stage at Citi FM’s Christmas Eve concert, Decemba 2 Rememba concert on Thursday, December 24.

Social media platforms are awash with videos of Wisa stripping and rubbing his manhood behind his female dancer on stage.

[contextly_sidebar id=”HpHFdOCAFXSiSMluchTtoE2jYuXdAUjC”]He appeared before an Accra Circuit Court today [Wednesday] after he was arrested, charged and admitted to bail .

Although Wisa has acknowledged his act and called it irresponsible in an apology statement, his Lawyer told journalists after today’s court appearance, that his client will only be proven guilty if it is established that what he showed to the live audience on that fateful day was his genitals.

“Do you know what a dildo is? So if you know what a dildo is and you know what you can get from different sex shops all over the world then you can understand where we are coming from basically. What you saw in there is a perception. He is dissatisfied with the perception that you have. What you saw, to you it’s a dick or it looks like a dick. Can you prove that it was a dick?,” he queried.

The lawyer further complained about the negative perception that had been created since the incident occurred, saying “The perception created is very negative. It doesn’t mean what he did or what he’s alleged to have done is an acceptance of whatever people are saying he did basically. This matter is in court and it shall be determined in court and we will display and come to the bottom of this matter in court.”

“He [wisa] has pleaded not guilty and we will proceed to determine the matter in court. If you run into the definition of art, it runs from paintings to music, to dance and culture and to everything artistic and it is broad,” he argued.

The case has been adjourned to the 13th of January 2015.

The Ministry of Power has announced an end to load shedding in a statement released on Wednesday December 30.

The three-paragraph statement signed by Kweku Sersah-Johnson, Head of Public Affairs, for the Power Minister, said ” the Ministry of Power wishes to inform the public that its load shedding programme in respect of electricity supply has been brought to an end”.

“The Ministry takes this opportunity to express its profound gratitude and appreciation to the entire citizenry and residents of Ghana for their forbearance and understanding during those difficult times”.

[contextly_sidebar id=”L4SX5u9Prjar0Cz22SuYCMTdSDu5TvLB”]”The Ministry of Power and its agencies wish to assure the public that it shall continue to pursue policies and programmes to consolidate the gains so far made in the generation and transmission of electricity for the country” the statement concluded.

The announcement is timely and significant as Ghanaians were eagerly looking forward to the resignation of the Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor, who had repeatedly promised to resign by the end of the year if load shedding or ‘dumsor’ persists.

It is however unclear how Ghanaians will receive this announcement considering that the Power Minister recently gave different meanings to ‘dumsor’ and load shedding.

In his view, load shedding occurs when there is inadequate power and so consumers share what is available.

He said ‘dumsor’ refers to intermittent outages caused by technical faults which can happen at any time and cannot always be controlled.

If his explanation is anything to go by, then the latest announcement would mean that he has fulfilled his promise a day to January 2016, and can therefore escape the wrath of Ghanaians by ending load shedding.

The announcement would also mean that the country has now met its generation capacity and would not have to share power anymore.

In the last four years, Ghana has not had stable supply of power as demand has outstripped supply.

But in the last two years, the crisis deepened with the country suffering job losses as industries cut down on their intake to remain in business.

Small scale enterprises have also not been spared the effects of the crisis coupled with an unstable currency that made life more difficult.

Government has in recent times implemented some initiatives to make up for the shortfall in power supply.

These include the Karpower Barge from Turkey which docked at the Tema Port this December to produce 225 megawatts of power.

A second power barge is also expected in the first quarter of 2016.

Government has also secured ten power plants from the UAE-based Ameri Energy, which have since been connected to the national grid.

The Ghana Gas Company upon a request from the Volta River Authority (VRA) shut down its facility at Atuabo on November 23, to allow the AMERI Power Plant, to be connected to the supply of gas.

Ghana Gas is currently supplying gas to the VRA to power its plants despite the VRA’s huge indebtedness to them for the gas supplied over a long period of time.

Ghana Gas recently warned that it could shut down completely if the VRA did not honour its debt obligations since it needed to fix faulty equipment to supply gas effectively.
