On Monday March 6, 2017, as Ghana marked her 60th Independence anniversary, the women’s commission led by the commissioner, Miss Bridget Akosah-Antwi, fed about 100 kids who are on admission at the Paediatric unit of KATH.

Explaining the commission’s decision to Citi News, she said, “Ghana is 60 years, and on this day we wanted to show love to people who cannot come out and celebrate with us. We had earlier been here (KATH) to check on the ward that was most needful in the hospital, and we were told about the paediatric ward, and so we decided to come around, show some love, spend the day with them, talk to them, pray with them, and give them the little we have, just to make them feel that even though they are not well, we still have them in our minds.”

Parents whose kids had been admitted at the wards were overly excited to have received gifts from the commission.

In showing appreciation, one mother said “we thank them so much, we don’t often have kind-hearted people showing this kind of love; they have really shown our children so much love, God richly bless them.”

Dr. Victoria Kofie, who received the items on behalf of the staff at the Paediatric Unit, said the gesture by the Women’s commission and other well-meaning people who show love to the kids, provided an assurance of hope for the children, “because for them, it is just the same faces they see, but to have people to share with them and to care for them and to buy these things for them is very beautiful.”

Miss Bridget Akosah-Antwi, the Women’s commissioner, expressed gratitude to “Ascot pharmacy, Foodforall organisation, past executives and members of the National Executive Council for the immense support given the Women’s Commission to undertake this project.”
