Accra Great Olympics FC Limited and the Ghana Football Association are heading back to court after the former accused the latter of taking an entrenched position in dealing with the protest brought against Elmina Sharks FC.

Olympics want the GFA to relegate Elmina Sharks and re-instate them or expand the league to 18 teams to accommodate them.

An Accra High Court after engaging both parties on two separate occasions instructed them to thrash out their differences to enable them to find a middle ground.

However, a high powered delegation from Olympics which includes Fadi Fattal, Kofi Bentil, Fred Pappoe and Board Chairman Amarkai Amarteifio failed to reach a logical conclusion on two separate occasions after sitting down with the Executive Committee of the FA.

Board Chairman of Olympics Amarkai Amarteifio has bemoaned the lack of flexibility the FA have displayed in the deliberations between the two sides.

“It was our wish that this matter could be concluded today, unfortunately, the GFA came with a prepared position and they were not prepared to negotiate.

“They were resolute in that position, which was simply that they want to insist on going to court.

“We had hoped that they would consider forming a panel to look at the matter and decide on it.

“This we believed would resolve it conclusively and would resolve it in a way that will please everybody.

“On the other hand going to court will take a long time but they were resolute,” he revealed in the aftermath of the second meeting.

The Ghana Premier League and the Division One League will remain grounded until further notice as the parties go through the proceedings.

A 17-year-old Virginia skater is the first black woman to qualify for the U.S. Olympic speedskating team.

Maame Biney, of Reston, Virginia, secured her spot on the team after she made history winning the 500-meter races at the U.S. Olympic Short Track Trials on Dec. 16. The bubbly skater flew past the competition and then fell as she celebrated.

Of course, she got right back up.

Biney says she owes her determination to her Ghana-born father. She is grateful for how much he has sacrificed and the amount of work he put into her success, she said.

Natasha Mishkutionok, an 11-year-old ice skater, shares her love of skating and her dream of being better than her mother, Natalia, who is an Olympic gold and silver medalist.

The Olympian’s father, Kweku Biney, moved with her to the U.S. in 2005 in an effort to give his daughter a better future.

They had to leave behind other family members to begin their new life.

“My journey was never easy. It was hard, but I made it,” Kweku Biney said

Although Biney credits her father for her many accomplishments, he refuses to take it. “God saw me through it,” he said. “He planned it all. I was just the facilitator. That’s all I can say,” he continued.

Perhaps there was some destiny involved. During an interview with News4, Kweku held out a business card that his daughter had never seen. Maame grabbed it, looked and laughed.

It was a reminder card for her first group skating lesson, her dad said, that was scheduled for Dec. 17, 2005. Exactly 12 years and one day later, she would qualify for the Olympics.

South Korea is ahead of schedule in constructing venues for the 2018 Winter Olympics and NBC got an exclusive tour of the arenas that will host skating events. Some of the biggest events of the games will take place here.

Biney’s icy ride began at six years old. When her father saw a “learn to skate” sign at SkateQuest in Reston, he initially signed Biney up for figure skating.

A few months into the lessons, Biney’s coach noticed she skated too fast for figure skating and mentioned she should try speedskating. Her coach was onto something.

Twelve years later, the high school senior is part of history and the Olympic team

Although originally from Ghana, Biney wants to represent the U.S. because of the country’s diversity.

“This is what this country is. It’s diverse and different, and that’s exactly why I’m representing the U.S. Because we’re different.”

As Biney prepares for her first Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, she believes the sacrifices she’s made for speedskating were worth it.

As we get closer to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, here is a pronunciation guide for some of the venues at the Winter Games, as spoken by NBC Boston’s Young-Jin Kim, a Korean American journalst.

“Even with all the hard work, all the crying, all the tears, I would do it again because I had double the laughter.”

Biney is the second African-American speedskater to represent Team USA at the Olympics, following in the footsteps of Shani Davis. Davis has since made three more Olympic teams and earned four medals, including two golds.

British distance great Mo Farah sprinted clear to win the 3000m at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting in his final track meeting on home soil.

The 34-year-old, who is switching to road racing in 2018, came home in seven minutes 38.64 seconds.

“This is it. All I dreamed of as a youngster was running for Britain,” said the double Olympic champion.

Elsewhere, Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith came fifth in a 100m race won by Olympic champion Elaine Thompson.

Farah took his sixth World Championship gold in London earlier this month – to go with two silvers – and also has four Olympic titles.

Neither his narrow failure to complete another 5,000m and 10,000m world title double in London nor the leak of an interim report from an anti-doping investigation into his American coach Alberto Salazar had dampened the Birmingham crowd’s enthusiasm for this send-off.

Farah – who has won more world-level track gold medals than any other British athlete in history – was roared to victory by a raucous crowd, who had to be reminded to save their cheers as the athletes prepared for the gun.

He said on Friday that his UK track farewell would be more “celebratory” than the frenzied and, at times, physical contests from which he took 10,000m gold and 5,000m silver in London and so it proved.

Adel Mechaal, who finished just off a podium place in the world 1500m final 10 days ago, pushed to overtake Farah down the back straight in Birmingham. But just as at the Diamond League meeting in London earlier this year, the Spaniard was left trailing by Farah’s formidable kick for home.

The Briton’s time was well short of the 7:32.76 he clocked at the same event last year to break Dave Moorcroft’s national record.

Farah for Tokyo 2020?

After a lap of honour in the rain, Farah denied newspaper reports that he had split with coach Barry Fudge, who has overseen his training programme since he distanced himself from Salazar.

“Where did you get that from? Barry is still my right-hand man,” he said when asked about his relationship with British Athletics’ head of endurance.

Farah went on to add there was a slim chance that he might yet represent Britain at Tokyo 2020.

“If I’m the best in the marathon and can compete… it depends,” he said. “I think it is going to take at least two or three marathons to get it right to learn from it. It is not easy.”

Farah will race for the final time on the track at the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday, 24 August and finish his season at September’s Great North Run.

Asante Kotoko stayed with Aduana Stars at the top of the Ghana Premier League following a 1-0 win over WAFA in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Frank Sarfo Gyamfi’s goal late in the second half gave the Porcupine Warriors the win to move them to 17 points and set them up for a clash with rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday in Week 8.

The Phobians will go into the clash seeking a win after losing 2-1 to Tema Youth.

Joseph Paintsil put Tema Youth ahead but Thomas Abbey responded to leave the game level at half time.

However, Ibrahim Yusif found the winning goal in the 75th minute at the Tema Stadium after firing home a rebound.

Hearts are 9th on 9 points while Tema Youth are 6th with 10 points.

League leaders Aduana Stars failed to find any goals at home to Medeama leading to a goalless draw at the Dormaa Park.

Fellow Brong Ahafo side, Berekum Chelsea, however were more fortunate against Bolga All Stars. A goal from Briamah Mohammed gave them a 1-0 win and a push to 4th place on 11 points.

Bolga All Stars are 15th on 4 points but they are just a point above Great Olympics who drew 1-1 in Accra to Inter Allies.

David Amuzu put the ‘Dade’ Boys into the lead but they could not hold on for their first win of the season. Prince Baffoe got the equaliser for Allies in the second half.

An Amos Addai goal for AshantiGold gave them a 1-0 win over Liberty Professionals at the Len Clay Stadium. The result is a huge boost to the Miners who were beaten 4-2 at the same venue on Sunday by Bechen United.

In other results, Wa All Stars drew 1-1 with Ebusua Dwarfs. Paul Asare scored for All Stars while Nicholas Gyan got Dwarfs’ goal.

GHPL Week 7 results:

Tema Youth 2-1 Hearts

Olympics 1-1 Allies

Wa AllStars 1-1 Dwarfs

Aduana 0-0 Medeama

AshGold 1-0 Liberty

Chelsea 1-0 Bolga All Stars

Bechem 0-0 Elmina Sharks
