Ofori Amponsah has disclosed why he established a church in 2013 after he claimed God had called him to be a pastor.

Speaking to Delay on the Delay Show, he said even though he was called by God to do his work, his calling was not to be a pastor, a reason he went back to secular music.

The highlife singer admitted that his decision to found Family of Faith and Love Ministries was a miscalculation.

According to him, the pain and frustration he went through in life goaded him to assume the duties of a pastor when he had not been ordained.

“I can say God did not call me to be a pastor; maybe for something else,” he said.

“Only a fool doesn’t change his mind. I know what my strengths are. I don’t feel like writing Gospel music. Gospel is my belief, and I will not change from it. It is a belief I have in God, I won’t change. But I don’t think that God calls everyone to be a gospel singer,” he added.

He apologised to his fans and loved ones who may have been disappointed in his actions during his ‘u-turn’ from gospel music.

He said he put a hold on his music career because he had gone through a broken heart, failed relationship and could not have the inspiration and sound mind to compose music.

Meanwhile, he admitted that while he was doing the work of God as a pastor and had vowed never to do secular music again, he was ‘sneaking’ to Kaywa’s studios to record secular songs.

Ofori Amponsah, who got onto the music scene in 1999, has produced 12 albums. He has songs such as ‘Otoolege,’ ‘Lady’ ‘Asew,’ ‘Cinderella,’ among others.

In 2012, he announced that he had been called by God into His vineyard as an evangelist and prophet, and vowed not to do secular music again. He composed a few gospel songs which did not receive enough attention.

“I have started my own fellowship and I believe God is calling me into the ministry to tell people He is alive. All the songs I wrote and music I did was not by my strength but by a God-given talent in me, but now it is time for me to return to God just like the prodigal son,” Ofori Amponsah had stated.

Few years later, he went back to secular music with songs like ‘Alewa,’ ‘Tintin’ and ‘Wonkoaa.’

Ofori Amponsah is currently out with a song titled ‘Pioto,’ produced by Underbeatz.

Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has commended highlife musician Ofori Amponsah for his good songs and artistry.

The former first lady who has been an ardent fan of the highlife musician invited him to her office yesterday in Accra and had interaction with him on a wide range of issues.

Mrs. Rawlings for the first time applauded Ofori Amponsah for recording good songs that have stood the test of time.

She encouraged Ofori Amponsah to work harder at his music career after he got back from his foray into preaching the gospel. The former first lady who graced the just ended April Easter Comedy show, also said she was impressed by Ofori Amponsah’s performance at the show.

“I enjoyed your performance very well. Keep it up.” She also disclosed her fondness for songs of Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede and Ofori Amponsah adding that she listened to them when she was stressed.

The former First Lady, however, advised Ofori Amponsah, not to follow the style of music in vogue which enjoy massive airplay but rather stick to his style.

“Continue with the good works. You’re one of the best highlife musicians we have in Ghana,” she said.

The ‘Alewa’ hit maker gave Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, copies of his award-winning selling albums.

Ofori Amponsah shot into the limelight in 2000 when he was featured on Daddy Lumba’s ‘Wo Ho Kyere.’ He followed up with his maiden album ‘Asew’ in 2001. He later released the albums ‘Meprawo’ and ‘Rakia’ in 2002 and 2004 respectively.

He followed with other great albums that won him spurs but drifted to gospel music when he claimed God had sent him to preach the gospel in 2012.

He returned to secular music in 2015 with Alewa which made quite a good showing on the music market. At present, his ’17’ track is gaining currency among highlife patrons.

Highlife musician, Ofori Amponsah has disclosed that the trauma he went through after his wife divorced him some five years ago was the reason he came out to say he was ‘dawging’ secular music for the altar.

But after living the life of a “Man of God’ for a while, Ofori Amponsah aka All4Real realised he was not cut for that and came back last year with Alewa featuring Sarkodie saying he was done with that life and has reconciled with secular music.

He is therefore pleading with Ghanaians to forgive him if he offended anyone with his intermittent switch from Highlife to gospel and back to Highlife because he was confused at that time.

In an interview with Showbiz last Friday, the Otoolege hitmaker said his wife leaving him rendered him so heartbroken that he became a recluse and didn’t want anything to do with anyone not even his first love- music.

“I just could not live with that. I was very confused. My marriage falling on rocks dealt me a big blow. I locked myself up. I didn’t want anything to do with anybody. I virtually went crazy and even considered committing suicide.

“I started smoking and drinking heavily and that got worse when I found out my friends who I trusted told lies about me to my wife which she believed. I could not believe they could cook up stories like that. That got to me badly.

“I gave out all the expensive equipment in my studio for my work and didn’t want to have anything to do with music. Infact I lost faith in God. I hit rock bottom”, Ofori Amponsah revealed to Showbiz.

Two years after recovering from the shock of his wife leaving him, the multiple award winning artiste said he somehow revived his faith in God as part of his healing process.

‘’I think God wanted me to draw closer to Him that is why He allowed what happened to happen to me. And it was around that time that I set up a church in my house.

“Now the real Ofori Amponsah is back like never before after clearing my head from all this trouble. Ghanaians are now going to enjoy the real Ofori Amponsah again but now a better and a more transformed Ofori Amponsah” he said.

His manager Ashes who was by him during the interview said Ghanaians should give Ofori Amponsah the benefit of the doubt and accept him for who he is because everyone goes through bad situations at a point in life.

Ashes added that, Ofori Amponsah has so far done collaborations with artistes such as Kwabena Kwabena, Akwaboah, Amakye Dede, Paa Kwesi and he looking forward to working with more artistes in the next couple of months.

“Ghanaians, your favourite highlife musician who gave you songs such as Odwo, Emmanuella, Sardine, Abelle, Puduo, Nothing But Love has come back to stay” he added.
