The New Patriotic Party (NPP)  is poised to win at least thirty percent of votes for their presidential candidate and capture three parliamentary seats in the Volta region.

According to the party, it is working  hard to achieve the target although it ambitious.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, the Regional Chairman of the Party, John Peter Amewu said “as a party, we have a very good agenda for the region. We are aiming at 3 [parliamentary] seats and a minimum of 30 per cent popular presidential votes and that is what we are calling agenda 3-30. It is doable and we are working towards that.”

“It is a very ambitious target but we have put in measures to work towards that. We know it is very difficult but if you have looked at the performance of NDC over NPP in the region over the period we have continuously moved from the bottom left to the top right,” he added.

The New Patriotic Party in the 2012 general elections failed to win a parliamentary seat in the Volta Region with their presidential candidate winning only 111,149 of the total votes cast, representing 12.93%.

He said the party has devised different strategies for the upper, middle and lower belts of the Region to ensure that it garners more votes from areas it had poorly performed in previous elections.

“Within the middle and the lower belt where the 14 constituencies that we performed quite very weak, we have another strategy we are going to use to achieve our target so each constituency has a specifically to meet, cumulatively, this will help us achieve our target,” he said.

‘Mahama starts Volta Regional tour’

Meanwhile, the Flagbearer of the governing National Democratic Congress has kickstarted his 5-day campaign tour in the Volta Region to solidify his party’s influence in the lower belt of the Region and canvas more support in the upper part of the region.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has called for prayers for the New Patriotic Party and her husband, Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2016 general elections.

She made the call when she joined the Shalom Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the La-Dadekotopon constituency on Sunday to worship.

[contextly_sidebar id=”UdGLfvnjTZWvmBbISsy5Cb7oYFT9jHK6″]She was in the company of the parliamentary candidate for the area, Vincent Odotei Sowah.

She told the congregants to pray for God’s favour for the NPP presidential candidate as well as the party as it goes into this year’s elections in December, urging the congregants to seek the interest of Ghana’s  future by voting wisely.

Mrs Akufo-Addo urged the congregation to pray without ceasing and desist from any activity that will promote chaos in the upcoming elections.

Together with some party officials, she visited the Ablekuma North Constituency later on Sunday to attend the graduation and exhibition ceremony of the Fifth Delight foundation at Odorkor Official Town.

She assured the gathering that she would work to promote the interest of women and children when her husband is voted into power on December 7.

“I would be a mother for all women and children”, Mrs Akufo-Addo said.

The New Patriotic Party led by Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo is seeking to unseat the governing National Democratic Congress in the upcoming elections.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has given the assurance that if given the mandate to govern, the NPP will turn Ghana’s economy around to lift the people out of poverty.

He said his party’s government led by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, would make sure that Ghana worked for everybody and not a privileged few.

He said the NPP would keep faith with the people, live up to expectation and will not disappoint.

He was speaking to students of the Assin-Fosu College of Education as part of his week-long campaign tour of the Central Region to win over more voters ahead of the December polls.

Dr. Bawumia mocked the Mahama administration for poor economic performance, which he said, had led to untold hardship and widespread suffering.

“The government has proven that it clearly lacks the ability to manage the resources of the nation efficiently to bring development and transform the lives of the people.”

He said the coming election was therefore an opportunity to vote out the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for messing up things.

Dr. Bawumia, an economist and a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, indicated that, the prevailing harsh economic conditions were the result of the massive corruption, wastefulness and the ineptitude of the current managers of the economy.

He repeated the pledge to move quickly to restore teacher trainee allowances and bring back to life collapsing social intervention programmes introduced by the NPP under President John Agyekum Kufuor.

He had earlier toured a number of communities in the Assin North, Assin Central and Assin South constituencies, where he interacted with the people, to help them to appreciate why they should trust the NPP with their votes.

He was accompanied by the regional party officers and some NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) in the region.
