The Premix Committee has given assurances that more premix fuel will be supplied to address the current shortage.

The Chairman of the Committee, Nii Lante Bannerman told Citi News that it is working closely with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to supply enough premix fuel to meet the high demands on the market.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ItHZWga2TFrYA4cLWjpzViw3ZmxrKUNq”]The sale of premix fuel has recently seen a shortage as the fishing season reaches its peak.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture had earlier blamed the shortage on some challenges with pumps at TOR. A claim TOR denied.

Nii Lante Bannerman admitted that the TOR could not meet the demand of pre-mix fuel hence the need to complement their supply.

“We are not putting the blame on TOR but the issue is that TOR cannot meet our demand for the week,” he said.

He added that his outfit has met with various stakeholders including TOR and the National Petroleum Authority to ensure that another company is engaged to help supply enough pre-mix fuel to meet demand.

“This is something we came to meet. We had a meeting with Hassan Tampuli of NPA, TOR…we are doing everything possible to ensure that this is solved… It is not something we are looking on to continue,” he said.

Fishermen bemoan impact of shortages

Meanwhile, some fishermen at Shama in the Western Region tell Citi Business News they are yet to receive adequate supplies to meet their needs.

They explain that the development has compelled them to stay out of businesses for the past three weeks.

“The shortage has really affected us very much; it was just yesterday that we had reports of some deliveries. If you ask me, I’ll say the premix committee hasn’t been properly constituted to ensure the constant supply of premix,” one of them stated.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region have been cautioned against engaging in acts of violence as the December 7 elections beckon.

This is after supporters of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, Nii Lante Bannerman, clashed on Tuesday.

A former Metropolitan Cheif Executive (MCE) of the the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and NPP patron, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, urged the NPP supporters to put peace first in the name of victory at the polls.

He said, “we believe in peace because we know we are winning an election come 7th December. We have warned our people to be cautious because the moment you engage in violet act, the police will arrest you and keep you indefinitely.”

The clashes in the constituency, led to the arrest of three NPP members who were eventually released on Wednesday. Prior to that, some supporters of the NPP had besieged the Jamestown Police station demanding the release of the men who were arrested after clashes.

But Mr. Blankson suggested some level of bias on the part of police because there were no reports of arrests on the side of the NDC.

“What we are saying is that if you have arrested three people from our party and you fail to arrest any from the other side then justice and fair play have not been exhibited.”

Allegations

The incumbent MP, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, alleged that the NPP’s Nii Lante Bannerman masterminded the attacks on his supporters on Tuesday [November 8] that led to clashes when his team had ended a rally at Jamestown in the constituency that evening.

According to him, Mr Bannerman had organised some young men to attack his team members with guns, machetes and other weapons.

But Mr. Vanderpuye was also accused of physical assault by his NPP contender. Mr. Bannerman alleged that Mr. Vanderpuye accosted and attacked him at his residence in James Town on Wednesday morning.

Three persons are said to be undergoing surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates of the Odododiodoo constituency were involved in a bloody clash on Tuesday night.

It is unclear why the attack was launched but Citi News gathered that the incident occurred after supporters of both candidates had ended their respective rallies in the constituency.

[contextly_sidebar id=”0o9tfnAdFWOTcl3XOxt9Nwyc66CxCpXQ”]The incumbent Member of Parliament, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, alleged that the NPP’s Nii Lante Bannerman masterminded the attacks on his supporters on Tuesday [November 8] night when his team had ended a rally at Jamestown in the constituency.

According to him, Mr Bannerman had organized some young men to attack his team members with guns, machetes and other weapons.

He told Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday that two of his team members were undergoing surgery at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital following the attacks.

“As I am talking to you now, I have two party boys at the Korle-Bu hospital surgical theatre undergoing surgery from gunshots from guys he [Bannerman] brought yesterday to come and kill our people, molest our people, intimidate them and assault them,” Mr Vanderpuye said.

He added that he led the police and some of the victims to arrest some perpetrators of the act.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Nii Lante Bannerman has denied orchestrating the attacks. He however accused Mr Vanderpuye of physically assaulting him this morning [Wednesday].

Mr Bannerman said on the Citi Breakfast Show that Mr Vanderpuye dealt him two punches on his jaw this morning within provocation.

“The MP attacked me this morning, physically… in the full glare of everybody this morning at James town. He came out of his car, I was sitting in my car, then he just punched me. I was in the car, I was defenseless… he crossed us with is car and got down, he punched me twice. There were more than 20 of his personal security guys,” he alleged.

This is not the first time such violent incident has been reported in the constituency especially within electioneering periods.

‘War for war’

Nii Lante Vandepuye who doubles as the Minister for Youth and Sports said he had consistently called for peace and urged his supporters to exercise restrain even when provoked but will not hesitate of be violent when his opponent insists on attacking residents in the area and his supporters.

“I will continue to preach peace but if my son will not give me peace, I will not give him rest. I am reaching my limit, if Bannerman wants peace, I will give him peace, if he wants war, I will give him ten folds,” he said.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo in Accra, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije has said that he is ready to sponsor the education of his main contender in the upcoming parliamentary election, Nii Lantey Bannerman.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate had deceived constituents that he is a University graduate hence must be voted into power.

According to him, he [Vanderpuije] had records that showed Mr Bannerman’s highest level of education was Senior High School because he dropped out of a University.

He told Citi News, “Nii Lante Bannerman told all of us that he was a graduate and that he went to Cape Coast University and that he as a Banking and Finance but I have records that show that even the Senior High School, he didn’t even do well to qualify him into a University and there is no course in UCC called Banking and Finance. Then he said he went to Regent University, we saw that he tried doing some courses at Regent University but his first semester was a failure.”

He added that “I am going to spend time, if he makes himself available, I will sponsor him to school, get education so that he will stop insulting the elderly people and he will stop what he is not.”

Nii Lantey Vanderpuije said Nii Lante Bannerman stand no chance of winning in the Odododiodoo constituency since he lacked the capacity to unseat him.

“For now, I am giving him [Nii Lante Bannerman] 5 out of the 116 polling stations but even the 5 I am being very considerate, if he doesn’t change his attitude, I will take the five away from him.”

Meanwhile, Nii Lante Bannerman has described as “untruth” Mr Vanderpuije’s claims against him.

In a sharp rebuttal on Citi Prime News on Wednesday, Nii Lante Bannerman said he was an accomplished banker and did not need Nii Lante Vanderpuije to sponsor his tuition if he decides to pursue higher education.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has rubbished claims that government committed to demolish residential structures at Old Fadama, a suburb of Accra, due to perennial flooding in the area.

Describing such claims as “sinister” and “slanderous” on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Vanderpuye retorted that, Government made known an intent to relocate the bulk package market in the area.

According to him, “government has no plans of demolishing the place and throwing the people there off. Government has plans to change environment and make sure that place is transformed and the people’s lives are changed.”

He noted that, communication on government’s plans for Old Fadama, “did not go out well right from the beginning as there was nowhere it was said that the people are going to be relocated to Adjin Kotoku. No. it was the bulk package market.”

Promise of new Salaga market

Mr. Vanderpuye, who launched his campaign on Sunday, also spoke about the funding of the new Salaga market, and responded to claims that he had taken responsibility for the construction of the market.

He explained that, “a Member of Parliament has no money to build any infrastructure. You lobby. You go and source for funding. If any Member of Parliament comes to stand and say: I will build Salaga Market, that person doesn’t know what he is talking about.”

“I have never said I will build Salaga market. We have been able to get SSNIT to buy into our project and SSNIT has accepted to solely fund it as a joint venture with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.”

Nii Lante repeating promises

However, the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary nominee for the constituency, Nii Lante Bannerman, claimed that Nii Lante Vandepuye has not delivered on his promises he made prior to the 2012 general elections.

Also speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, he insisted that his candidature had brought “Nii Lante to his knees” and that the incumbent MP’s promises were simply rehashing promises

Nii Lante Bannerman (R)

“Nii Lante on his campaign launch could not tell the people of Odododiodio a single thing he had been able to do for the constituency. He rather came to repeat the promises he made in 2012 and said that a sod is going to be cut on the Salaga market one or two months to an election.”
