Multichoice is assuring that its programming complies with the law in all Jurisdictions that it operates.

“In tandem with our internal quality control measures, we also ensure all third party suppliers are adequately briefed on country-specific regulatory requirements and provisions,” Multichoice said in a statement.

This comes on the back of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Thursday morning banned several children programs on the pay television, DSTV and GOTV that are said to promote homosexuality.

The banned programs include Loud House, the Legend of Korra and Hey Arnold, which are animation TV shows aired on the Nickelodeon channels. Others are Steven Universe and Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, another channel available on DSTV and GOTV.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, responding on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels acknowledged the concerns expressed by customers and said it will suspend the shows in question in Africa.

CHILDREN’S TV PROGRAMMES ON NICKELODEON, NICKTOONS AND CARTOON NETWORK

Multichoice takes pride in ensuring that we comply with the law in all Jurisdictions that we operate in and are mindful that culture is the foundation of the nation as family values underpin the society.

In tandem with our internal quality control measures, we also ensure all third party suppliers are adequately briefed on country specific regulatory requirements and provisions. MultiChoice has therefore contacted the Channel Suppliers on the various recent complaints made against the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels with regards to their programming and wish to clarify as below:

Turner with regards to the Cartoon Network channel:

“With respect to the issues raised by customers, we ensure our channels and programming are suitable for children and do not contain the content and messages unsuitable. In Africa, as in all markets, we always seek to be respectful of local laws, cultures and sensitivities and, in some instances, this means we do show amended versions of US original series. We constantly review feedback from our audiences to ensure that this is the case and this is a responsibility that we take extremely seriously.”

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa response on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels:

“We acknowledge the concerns expressed by customers. While we explore a variety of options, we will suspend the shows in question in Africa. Although, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa and Nickelodeon Africa are committed to diversity and inclusiveness, VIMN also respects the varied cultures and regulatory codes of the markets in which we operate.”

DStv customers can look forward to a revamped channel offering with less duplication of sports across channels and more predictable scheduling.

Africa’s leading sports channels provider, SuperSport wants to make it easy for sports fans to find their favourite sport on DStv, so it is cleaning house.

On 4 July 2017, the SuperSport offering will be revamped to offer viewers easier navigation and less duplications.

“We’re making these changes to give DStv customers an even better viewing experience, making it easier to navigate our wide variety of sports in the back-to-back channels. As there will be less duplication and repeats of sport, and no impact on live events, the overall sport viewing will be enhanced, as will our overall HD offering” says Gideon Khobane, SuperSport CEO.

When the 2018 European football season kicks off in August, SuperSport 3 will be the Home of the Premier League for DStv Premium, Compact+ and Compact customers while SuperSport 7 will be their go-to channel for all La Liga football action. SuperSport 11 and SuperSport 12 will remain on the platform as permanent event channels for overflow live sport giving subscribers a wider choice of live sport.

SuperSport will also introduce two new sports channels: SuperSport 8 which will treat DStv Premium, Compact +, Compact and Family customers to the Premier League & La Liga overflow matches plus FIFA internationals and the IAAF Diamond League athletics in glorious High Definition (HD) and; SuperSport 10, which in addition to one live Premier League and La Liga Match per week, will also include a UEFA Champions League and Europa League match as well as Athletics, Rugby 7’s and the newest sports genre growing in popularity eSports, across all DStv packages.

All sport currently available on SuperSport Select and SuperSport Select 2 will henceforth be available on SuperSport 9 and SuperSport 10 while SuperSport 8, will now be available across Africa.

This is great news as DStv customers will continue to enjoy the same amount of exciting local and international sport but on a leaner and well-organised World of Champions.

Khobane reassures sports fans that “SuperSport is still the home of the best sporting action on the African continent, and with an enhanced HD and a streamlined channel offering, we believe we have made the viewing experience a whole lot better.”

DStv customers can visit DStv.com or SuperSport.com to see how the sports will be allocated across the different SuperSport channels.

Multichoice Ghana has endorsed an HD Zapper decoder bundle offer on the Samsung S8 handset between Samsung Ghana and Comsat Technologies, today [Friday] at their ultra-modern office in Accra. Speaking at the launch event for this unique partnership, Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, Multichoice Ghana said “our mission is to deliver value to our customers by making great entertainment more accessible through partnerships like this one with Samsung.”

We join hands with Samsung today to bring into the homes of everyone who purchases a Samsung S8 handset an HD Zapper decoder with two months of the access bouquet on DStv. As a video entertainment company, our role is to enrich lives and with this partnership we envisage happier customers, not only because their homes will be charged with the riveting soccer, movies, news and kid’s edutainment on DStv but also from the increased productivity the Samsung S8 handset guarantees users.”

Customers who purchase the Samsung S8 handset can download and install the DStv Now App on their handset which would allow them to watch live DStv on-the-go immediately their account is activated on the decoder that comes with the phone. That’s not all, these customers can also link up to four more android or IOS devices (tablets, desktop, etc.) to their account to also enjoy DStv’s fantastic programmes at no additional cost.

Whether it is the Ghanaian series YOLO, world class sports like the 2017 Confederation Cup or the global blockbuster, Game of Thrones, Season 7 (which returns to M-Net from the 17th of July), our investment in leading-edge content and technology systems deliver the shows that people love into their hands and their living rooms courtesy a Samsung S8 handset.

In conclusion, Cecil Sunkwa Mills added, Multichoice Ghana will continue to use its influence and resources to help grow its dealers into vibrant, economic powerhouses by creating value for our customers and society to build a successful business for the future.
