Ghanaian highlife artiste, Amandzeba has lauded up and coming musicians for doing more singing in their compositions.

The music legend said few years ago, the music landscape was flooded with rappers but he is happy the trend has changed.

“It’s so refreshing to hear young artistes like Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Adina, Nana Yaa and others sing and that is a good thing. I am happy because few years ago we had most of them doing rap,” he told Osei Kwame on Citi FM’s ‘Brunch in the Citi.’

He also advised that the artistes should ‘come home to roost’ and do songs that will project the Ghanaian culture and values.

“I’d love to see that the huge chunk of what they do come from home,” he noted.

Amandzeba is one of the Ghanaian artistes who has resolved to portray Ghanaian culture in his compositions and appearance.

Amandzeba is one of the artistes slated for this year’s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) slated for Saturday, 24th March, 2018 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

Other artistes performing are Adane Best, Ga ensemble Dromo Naa and master keyboardist Isaac Aryee.

Citi FM’s 2018 MOGO concert is sponsored by Freight Consult, Special Ice Mineral Water with support from La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

The event which has been scheduled for March 24, 2018 will be held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

The programme, organized by Citi 97.3 FM, is part of activities to mark the station’s Heritage Month initiative which seeks to project the culture and heritage of Ghana.

Amandzeba is one of Ghana’s finest highlife artistes who since his Nakorex days, has proven his mettle in the music space as a consummate musician and great performer. Music fans will be thrilled with songs like ‘Dede,’ ‘Wogbe’ ‘Biako,’ among others from his repertoire.

MOGO, for the past years has been a platform to extol music brewed in Ghana by Ghanaian artistes; and it has featured a lot of Ghana’s music giants.

Last year, the event featured highlife greats like Nana Kwame Ampadu, A.B. Crentsil, the late Paapa Yankson and Amandzeba.

Others were Adane Best, Kwabena Kwabena and the ‘Rap Doctor,’ Okyeame Kwame.

Poet and literary coach, Philip Dua Oyinka, known in art circles as Nana Asaase interspersed his proverb-laden poetry with his awesome singing prowess.

There was also performance by Chief Moomen and his Wogbejeke crew who told the history of Ghanaian music through drama.

This year, MOGO is expected to be more enthralling than the previous years. The artistes on the bill promise to give out unique performances on the night.

Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) started in 2007. It was initially an annual one-day event but in 2015 was extended into a one-week festival and named MOGO Festival. An awards show was also instituted as part of the celebration.

The 2018 edition of MOGO is being sponsored by Freight Consult, Special Ice and supported by La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

About Isaac Aryee

Isaac learnt how to play the keyboard on his own. When he nurtured the quest to learn how to play keyboard, he had no access to a piano at home so he employed his creative faculties and designed and drew out a one dimensional pictorial piano on his bedroom floor, using the measurements of a real piano in his uncle’s house. With his make-shift piano Isaac devoted endless hours practicing his passion and formed what can only be described as a spiritual bond with the instrument.

Constantly striving for higher levels of greatness, Isaac found himself playing in churches and in bands in his homeland, Ghana. He moved to the United Kingdom when he was 17 and pursued an education in music arrangement and production. Having mastered his craft he had finally made it.

Isaac became one of the most sought after keyboardists and performed countless gigs with an envious plethora of artists and bands including McFly, WestLife, Osibisa, Mory Kante ,Will Young, Skunk Anansie, Elton John, and Lionel Richie amongst many others.

After years of working with many of the World’s greatest musicians, Isaac has decided to return home to Ghana to dedicate his time, skill and craft to working with local talent. He mentors young musicians to develop and hone their musical and artistic skills. He is a regular resource person for Yamaha, Korge, Roland and Dexibell.

Isaac, through his vast experience with different music genres found himself drawn towards a unique musical blend. Isaac has recently released his first solo album, “On a Serious Note”, recorded and produced by himself.  The album, which is a contemporary fusion of traditional gospel, world music and jazz, was launched last year.

Apart from his skill as contemporary concert pianist and keyboardist, Isaac can function as a music director and he also offers training for worship teams, choral groups and music ensembles in general.

As a composer, he has a demonstrable experience in writing scores/music for Films, TV, Jingles etc.

Ghanaian musicians Okyeame Kwame and Kwabena, have called on Ghanaian DJs to play more local music on their platforms.

The two joined Citi FM’s Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show for a conversation ahead of the Ghana@60 edition of the Music of Ghanaian Origin [#MOGO2017] Dinner Dance.

In the conversation, Okyeame and Kwabena Kwabena spoke about recent trends where Ghanaian DJs play more Nigerian music than they play that of Ghanaian artistes.

“When I listen to the radio, what I realize is that our DJs play more Nigerian music than Ghanaian music. I am begging our DJs, to try and make it at least 50-50,” Kwabena Kwabena posited.

On the other hand, Okyeame Kwame observed that, it is important for technocrats to promote Ghanaian art to the point where the country will be known for that.

“For Ghanaian music to stand, everybody must pay attention and come together. Our technocrats must help the arts to the point where we will know that though we can’t make aeroplanes, we can use our arts to sell Ghana.”

mogo-2017

Okyeame Kwame and Kwabena Kwabena will be sharing the MOGO stage with AB Crentsil, Paapa Yankson, Nana Ampadu, Amandzeba, Adane Best, and some surprise acts.

Chief Moomen and his Wogbejeke crew will also be there to give patrons a taste of the history of Ghana’s music history.

The artists will be backed by the able X-Therapy Band.

MOGO will be held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel on Saturday, March 24, 2017. It is sponsored by GCB Bank, Freight Consult and Nallem Clothing.
