Black Stars 2nd assistant Maxwell Konadu has admitted that the team’s game plan was flawed following Ghana’s loss to Burkina Faso in the 2nd leg of their 2018 CHAN tournament.

The Black Stars B conceded two early goals in the first half and were left with the enormous task of trying to fight back to level the game which they failed to do.

The 4-3 aggregate defeat came as a shock to many, especially after Ghana managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg away.

Coach Maxwell Konadu was quick to acknowledge that the game did not go according to plan and stated is bemusement at the failure of the tactical setup.

“Normally every team plays according to their strengths, but if you do and it doesn’t work there is nothing you can do,” he said.

“We wanted to keep the ball as much as we could that’s why we played three central midfielders, but our opponents were still able to work around it. This is one game that we just have to forget. It wasn’t good for us at all.”

Konadu’s comments were echoed by the thoughts of his opponent on the day, Drissa Malo Traore , the Burkina Faso coach.

“We watched them (Ghana) in the first leg and saw how they played, and we mapped out a strategy to stop them and hit them on the counter attack and it worked.”

The ex-Ghana striker will be in-charge of the national team until the Football Association installs a substantive coach.

He will lead the team for next month’s FIFA free date for international friendlies if the Ghana FA finds an opponent.

Konadu acted in the same capacity in 2014 and led the team in two qualifiers to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Assistant coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu, has stated that the state of the Ghana Premier League is deeply eroded by the mass exit of players.

Konadu, who started the remarkable story of  Ghana’s current Premiere League Champions, Wa All Stars, is regarded as one of the best football brains in Ghana.

The former Ghana international, is now the assistant coach of the Black Stars and also the head coach of the local of the Black Stars.

He is deeply concerned about the increasing rate of players leaving the local scene for greener pastures despite being half baked.

“There is a real concern where in Ghana, when you call a home based player to the national team today; tomorrow he goes abroad,” Konadu told the press in South Africa

“I don’t know if the FA can do something about it; it’s something that is not helping our domestic league. May be you people in South Africa can offer some good money so the players stay here.”

“But for us, we mostly depend on the foreign based players because of this issue.”
