Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is set to miss their Premier League game at Liverpool after picking up a knee injury playing for Belgium.

The 29-year-old went off after 29 minutes of a World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday.

In a post on social media, Belgium said Fellaini has had a scan and will be “out for a couple of weeks”.

They face Cyprus in their final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, while United travel to Anfield on 14 October.

The Old Trafford club then visit Benfica in the Champions League four days later before a trip to Huddersfield in the league on 21 October.

Fellaini has scored four goals for United this season, including two in a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in their last game before the international break.

He looks set to join fellow United midfielder Paul Pogba, who is out with a hamstring injury, on the sidelines for his club.

The Western Regional Minister,  Paul Evans Aidoo, has directed  the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) and the security agencies to sustain the decongestion exercise at the Central Business Area of Takoradi to ensure sanity in the metropolis.

He said proper sanitation and free flow of human and vehicular traffic in the major towns and cities in the country formed part of government’s policy of enhancing and sustaining economic growth.

He, therefore, urged them to use every means possible to eject hawkers and traders operating illegally at the inner parameters of the Takoradi Central Market.

Mr. Aidoo said this during a meeting with the city authorities, Regional Security Council and the media at Sekondi to assess the impact of the decongestion exercise the STMA and the Regional Coordinating Council at the Takoradi carried out at the Central Market last month.

He said they should evacuate all traders and hawkers operating unlawfully at the Central Business Area of Takoradi to the Apremdo Market by the middle of this month.

A monitoring team that inspected the decongestion exercise noticed that some shop owners had sub-let frontage of their shops to hawkers and traders who had been ejected, thus encouraging them to operate at unauthorised places.

The team also observed that some hawkers and traders resumed trading on the pavement from 1700 hours while some big trucks offload cassava, plantain and other food stuffs around 2100 hours in contravention with the STMA bye-laws that prohibit heavy truck to offload bulk cargo at the Takoradi Central Market.

There were some big trucks that had also parked on the shoulders of the road, especially frontage of some shops, thereby creating vehicular and human traffic.

The team suggested demarcation of the frontage of shops to prevent illegal trading.

The team noticed that those people eventually move to the inner parameters of the market to trade in the night, thus defeating the purpose of the decongestion exercise.

At the Apremdo Market, the team noted inadequate facilities and came up with suggestions to improve the infrastructure to enhance trading.

Among the suggestions are the construction of drainage to ensure free flow of water during heavy downpour, creation of pavement and improvement in the lighting system.

Others are the construction of transport terminals, installation of fire hydrants to enable fire personnel to combat fire outbreaks.

The team warned those who had been allocated with sheds to occupy them or would be re-allocated to others to ensure vibrancy in the market.

The Mayor of STMA, Captain Anthony Cudjoe (rtd) pledged to work closely with the security agencies to maintain 24-hour security at the market to sustain the decongestion exercise.

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has embarked on a decongestion exercise to allow the free flow of traffic and pave way for the construction of an ultra modern market for the metropolis.

The exercise, according to the assembly, forms part of the blue print for the beautification of the city and the need for the ceremonial streets to be cleared of unauthorized structures, hawkers and beggars.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the assembly, Issah Musah said the latest decongestion will include the arrest of stray animals wandering the streets of the city and the fining of their owners to serve as a deterrent to others.

He hinted that vehicles which are wrongfully parked on the shoulders of main roads will also be towed and their owners will be compelled to adhere to imposed fines.

This, he said, will generate revenue for the assembly to embark on various developmental projects.

Mr. Musah decried the spate of indiscipline on the part of squatters who are putting up unapproved structures around the central business district, thereby, hindering progress of work of the construction of the market.

He therefore, promised to check the practice because, the metropolis had gained notoriety for lawlessness.

According to him, there was no need for sensitization because the assembly is simply doing its work.

Mr. Musah however, warned that defiant squatters will forcefully be ejected with support from the special task force of the assembly.

On sustainability of the exercise, the PRO indicated the assembly was collaborating with National Road Safety Commission and the security agencies to maintain peace and avoid any chaos throughout the exercise.
