Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is beefing up counseling in order to reduce the number of suicide cases recorded in the institution.

This follows a recent report of the suicide of a level 100 BA Geography and Rural Development.

The School’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kwame Yeboah, who confirmed the incident to Citi News, said “we have a counselling centre which we have beefed up so much, we’ve had orientation with the students and made them aware to come to the centre with any problem they have, so this is what we are currently doing, informing them, helping them, getting them all the information they need as to where to go when they need anything.”

Mr. Kwame Yeboah, who was saddened by the incident disclosed that “the gentleman is in first year, but he is an old student. He enrolled in 2015/2016 academic year but had medical challenges so had to back out, and then came back again last academic year and still had the same problem and had to go back again, and came back again with a clean bill of health to start.”

The deceased, Stephen Nana Agyei Manu, was reported to have been found dead in the female’s washroom of the School’s Central Classroom Block Building with a bottle of No Pest Insecticide on Thursday afternoon.

This brings to two (2) the number of suicide cases recorded in the institution this year.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the KNUST hospital morgue, while police conducts investigation into the matter.

MP’s daughter allegedly commits suicide on KNUST Campus

In February this year, an 18-year-old daughter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem Central Constituency, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, has allegedly committed suicide at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

Accra Heats of Oak has officially parted company with their manager, Mohammed Polo, after just 7 months in charge of the club.

Polo took over the position from David Duncan after his contract was terminated by the club in November.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Accra Hearts of Oak have formally bidden fare well to Coach Mohammed Polo after he was handed a letter to that effect this afternoon.

“The letter signed by Administrative Manager Hackman Aidoo for Administrative Chairman Togbe Afede XIV referred to the term of Coach Mohammed Polo’s engagement which specified that he was to be in charge of the team up to the end of the season.”

Polo,58, who had previously managed the club as player coach, guided the team to third place in the Ghana Premier League last season.

In the statement the club “thanked Mohammed Polo for stepping in at a difficult time and doing his best for the team” while wishing the former footballer of the year “the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Mohammed Polo is disappointed with the travails of Hearts as they slipped on Sunday.

The Phobians allowed Lions to come back from a goal down and lost 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium. The legendary Hearts player took, again, to blaming officiating decisions.

“I’m very disappointed. It is hard to understand what is happening at the club.”

Lions have overtaken the Accra giants to second spot and with six games to end the season, Hearts could be out of the race for a spot in the African Champions League.

“Yesterday, we were undone by a refereeing error. The referee didn’t see the ball cross the line but he whistled for a goal. I cannot understand. The second goal we conceded isn’t a goal that should beat a goalkeeper.”

Citi Sports feelers in the club say that Polo will definitely not continue when the season ends. It is even rumoured within club circles that he could be sacked should he lose just one more game.
