Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie says the return of Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah to the national team is a decision which should solely be left to head coach Kwesi Appiah.

The versatile player has put in stellar performances for the Bianconeri in the past couple of weeks and recently recorded his 150th cap for the side in their goalless draw against SPAL 2013.

However, he last pulled on the national colours during Ghana’s participation in the Brazil 2014 World Cup, where he featured largely as a left wing-back.

George Afriyie who also doubles as Chairman of the Black Stars management committee believes there should be no pressure from third parties on the matter.

“It is true that at a point he indicated that he was willing to call off his absence from the national team.

“I don’t know what went wrong.

“Let us still give the coach the chance and if he is in his plans he will definitely be called up.

“Since this falls directly under the jurisdiction of the coach let us allow him to take that decision,”he told Citi Sports.

Kwadwo Asamoah’s reason for staying away from the national team remains unclear, as he has put the spate of injuries behind him.

Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah says Juventus’ progression to the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League is part of a journey they hope will end in the final in Kiev later this year.

Juventus came back from a goal down to score twice at Wembley against Tottenham through Gonzalo Higuian and Paulo Dybala to send to the quarter finals via a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

Asamoah came off the bench in the 60th minute to replace French midfielder, Blaise Matuidi, and after the match, the former Udinese man said that making it past Spurs would urge them to reach the finals of the competition again since their last appearance in 2015.

He also said their motivation to go far in the competition was to see their goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon have another shot at winning the trophy.

”We are fighting until the end. We are not looking at the quarter or semi-finals. We are very happy for Buffon. He is not going to the World Cup so this means a lot to him. It could be his final attempt but we are happy that we have made it to the last 8.”

Asamoah’s introduction was part of some tactical changes made by Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri, in the second half of the tie to swing things their way and he spoke of Asamoah’s value to the team on the night.

“I made changes because we needed players with different characteristics, as Asamoah is extraordinary in his passing, and has been really underestimated throughout his career.”

Juventus, Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid have so far qualified for the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Italian giants Inter Milan have reportedly offered Juventus defender Kwadwo Asamoah a three-year contract.

According to Italian media outlet Tuttosport, the 29 year old Ghana international has also been offered a €2.5 million annual salary to join Luciano Spalletti’s side.

Asamoah has struggled for regular playing time in his last few years at the Turin club, and has had to settle for a fringe role at left full back in recent games.

Fellow Italian Serie A sides AS Roma and AC Milan have all also reportedly expressed interest in the services of the player who seems to be close to an exit from Juventus after six seasons.

Contrary to expectations, Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah could not complete a switch to Turkish giants, Galatasaray on Deadline Day from Juvenus.

Several reports from Turkey stated that the two teams agreed a fee and Asamoah had also agreed on personal terms ahead of finishing the deal.

However, the transfer did not materialise because Juventus Leonardo Spinzzola from fellow Serie A side Atalanta to replace Asamoah.

Despite their inability to give Asamoah regular minutes, Juventus had always stated their intention to keep the player.

In July, sources close to the club said that the Italian champions were seeking to give Asamoah a midfield role this season.

It is now unclear if the team will play Asamoah more following the collapse in the move to Turkey.

Meanwhile, fellow Ghanaian players, Abdul Majeed Waris, Muniru and Muntari Sulley, Afriyie Acquah and Daniel Amartey, could not also get moves on the last day of the transfer window.

Ghana and Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is weighing up the possibility of signing for Galatasaray according to reports emerging from the Turkish and Italian press.

The versatile midfielder has seen less than fifty matches in the last three seasons and has emerged as a prime target for Galatasaray boss Igor Tudor who himself featured for Juventus during his playing days.

Used primarily as a backup for Alex Sandro at the left wing back position since his return from injury last season, Asamoah could stage a come back for a place in central midfield with Juventus following a number of departures.

The Turkish giants are preparing a bid of 8 million Euros plus bonuses for Asamoah and are hoping that a deal can be done in the coming days.

The player’s agent Edoardo Crnjar has been in prolonged talks with Galatasaray and has reached an agreement with the club on Asamoah’s wages should he complete the move.

If the transfer materializes he will be the latest among a number of Ghanaian players to join the Turkish league following the acquisitions of Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan by Kayserispor and Agyemang Badu by Bursaspor.

Ghanaian midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is full of confidence as his side, Juventus, seek their first UEFA Champions League trophy since 1996 when they take on Real Madrid.

The Turin giants have been in very impressive form in this season’s competition and dispatched some big name teams including Barcelona on their way to the final.

Juventus have already asserted their dominance on the home front winning both the league and the cup and will be looking to complete the treble with a win against Real Madrid.

Juventus defeated Real Madrid two years ago in the semi-final and Asamoah believes that that added psychological advantage will prove telling on Saturday their way to the final

After suffering four defeats in their previous four finals, and with the added psychological advantage of defeating Real Madrid two years ago in the semi-final, Asamoah believes 2017 will be the year they finally get it right.

“They haven’t changed much and they are still almost the same players. It is not easy though because for the past years Madrid has been a very good side and last year they were the champions,” he told South African based newspaper Soccer Laduma.

“They are used to these kinds’ of games so we have to do more. Since I have been here this is the second time we are going to the final, and Madrid have been here so many times.

“For us, we have to do more because we really need it. I know they want to win it, but we are really hungrier than them. I think they have won enough. This is our time,” he added.

The 28-year-old midfielder has made 24 appearances for the Turin giants this season and will be hoping to be involved in Saturday’s final.

Kwadwo Asamoah will be aiming to become the sixth Ghanaian to lift the coveted trophy after Abedi Ayew, Ibrahim Tanko, Samuel Osei Kuffuor, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari.

Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah was in action for Juventus as they established a two-goal advantage in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against Napoli on Tuesday night.

Napoli have never won in the Juventus Stadium and again lost to Juventus there, falling 3-1 in the first leg of a Coppa Italia semifinal thanks to Dybala’s brace of penalties.

Jose Callejon had given the visitors the lead after a flowing move.

But Argentine Dybala levelled for the Serie A leaders, converting a spot-kick he was clipped by Kalidou Koulibaly.

Gonzalo Higuain put the hosts ahead from a tight angle before Dybala added his second, converting after keeper Pepe Reina hauled down Juan Cuadrado.

Asamoah played for about 73 minutes before he was substituted by Alex Sandro. The second leg takes place next Tuesday in Naples.

Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah will miss 6 weeks of action after tests revealed a knee injury suffered during Juventus’ 1-0 away win at Palermo in the Serie A on Saturday.

The player came off the bench in the 68th minute to replace Miralem Pjanic but after the match, tests showed that there was a problem with his knee.

Juventus’ website stated that Asamoah had “suffered a rupture of the medial meniscus ligament in his right knee.”

He is expected to have surgery in coming days which will rule him out of Juventus’ matches against AC Milan, Napoli, Lyon and Dinamo Zagreb.

He will also miss Ghana’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda in October.

The injury is a setback for the player who was beginning to get games for Juventus this season after missing a large part of the 2015 calendar year due to a knee injury.
