Kotey, who was allegedly part of those who broke jail at Kwabenya during which police Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi of the Kwabenya Police in the Greater Accra Region was shot and killed in January 2018, was arrested by the Asamankese District Police on Friday, March 9, 2018.

Kotey, according to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police ( ASP), Ebenezer Tetteh, was arrested in his hideout in the cocoa growing community of Asikasu following intelligence picked up by the Eastern Regional Police Command.

“I have since informed Kwabenya police to come for him”, he told the Daily Graphic.

Hide out

This is the second time in one week that the Eastern Regional Police Command is arresting alleged armed robbers hiding in the region.

“They are finding Eastern region a safe haven for hiding but we will persue them”, ASP Tetteh stated.

Collaboration

He urged the public to continue to support the police, especially with information to help them deal with criminals.

“What we need is more community police collaboration”, he added.

He however commended some members of the public for giving the police timely information which had led to the major arrests.

Addressing the media on Thursday, the IGP said the two were arrested at Worawora in the Volta Region.

The attack on the police station resulted in the death of a police officer who was shot by the assailants

The police subsequently released the photos of the seven fugitives and announced a GHc15,000 bounty for any information leading to their arrest.

“We have since arrested two of the fugitives on Tuesday 23^rd January at Worawora in the Volta Region. They are Atta Kwadwo and Prince Osei. Also, two accomplices who aided the escape of the fugitives were arrested in Accra on Monday 22^nd January 2018 and yesterday 24^th January 2018,” the IGP said.

He noted that the accomplices who were detained “include a 28-year old woman named Nancy Bentah alias Awura Ama. The other is George Yeboah Ackah aka Kwesi Shower.

The IGP also added that “one more person Kofi Acheampong alias Nana Owuo age 32 was also arrested at Afienya.”

He said Nana Owuo is believed to be “the spiritual father of the suspect and a source of weapons supply to the criminals.”

David Asante-Apeatu revealed that items such as a coffin and skeletons were found at the place of Nana Owuo’s arrest.

“We are confident of the arrest of the rest of the suspects,” he assured.

The suspects succeeded in escaping with the assistance of some armed robbers who stormed the Kwabenya Police Station and shot dead the officer on duty in the process.

The suspects include six Ghanaians and a Nigerian.

The armed robbers set the inmates who were in cells at the Kwabenya Police District Headquarters free after shooting the officer on duty to death.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Efia Tenge, in a statement copied to citifmonline.com revealed that the suspects were six Ghanaians and a Nigerian.

“The Accra Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for seven (7) suspects who escaped from the Kwabenya Police cells this dawn, Sunday 21^st January 2018 together with some armed men who facilitated their escape.

In the process, one Police officer sustained gunshot wounds but unfortunately passed on whilst receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital,” the statement said.

The escapees are aged between 20 and 34.
