Satirist Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has hinted that he is preparing to hold his last comedy show before he finally bows out of stage comedy.

He told Graphic Showbiz that even though he admits his reign as the king of comedy is over, he needs to serve his fans one show before he exits.

“I am about to retire but that is after the last show left in me has been performed. I can’t fizzle out just like that. I need to say a proper goodbye to my fans. When I take my curtain call and bow after that show, then I know my love affair with the stage is done,” he explained.

The show dubbed “KSM—The Final Curtain Call” is scheduled to come off in a few months.

The 61 year-old comedian also added that his final show will be characterized by the energy of the “youngest old man in GH on that day.”

According to KSM “it’s not going to be just a show, it is going to be a memorable event.”

KSM staged his first play ‘Mellow Madness’ in 1977. In 1997, his one-man play, Saga of a Returnee shot him into the limelight.

He also disclosed he will soon be bowing out of his show, ‘The KSM Show’ which has been on TV since 2003.

“I am eventually going to pass on the hosting to a young brilliant talented guy. He is fascinating, and I can’t think of a better replacement to take over from me,” he said.

However, the KSM is not totally leaving the screens. He will dedicate his time to full-time production of television content.

The death of dance hall artiste Ebony has generated conversations on the reality or otherwise of prophecies.

Satirist Kwaku Sintim-Misa aka KSM is the latest to have shared his opinion on the subject.

In a Facebook post, he raises doubt about the credibility of ‘men of God’ who only prophesy about death and negative things.

He asks the prophets to pray to God to reveal to them how Ghana can fix its unemployment problem.

“Please next time you are in the spirit and God talks to you, I beg o, can you ask him to tell you how Ghana can fix the unemployment wahala? I beg, many of our youth are looking desperately for jobs. I want GOD to give you a prophecy on how to fix that. Then come and prophesy,” he writes.

OPEN LETTER TO THE MIGHTY PROPHETS

Dear mighty and powerful prophets of Ghana. I know God talks to you directly when you are “in the spirit”as you put it.

I beg o. I have one small request.

Please next time you are in the spirit and God talks to you, I beg o, can you ask him to tell you how Ghana can fix the unemployment wahala. I beg, many of our youth are looking desperately for jobs. I want GOD to give you a prophecy on how to fix that. Then come and prophesy.

Kindly ask God to tell you how we can make Ghana a great nation. I beg o, please ask God how we can make our economy great wai. When he or she tells you, then come and give us some prophecy on Ghana becoming a great nation.

Finally, tell God, that I plead with him or her in all humility, that he should stop telling you ONLY about how and when people will die. Tell God, that I respectfully speak on behalf of many Ghanaians when I say that we are tired of our mighty prophet’s obsession with people who are going to die.

If I may be bold for a second, it’s your fault God. Today you reveal to them that an important King about to die, next you reveal to them that many journalists are going to die, then you tell them many celebrities are about to die… we even heard that you revealed that one of the first ladies was going to die. Oh God, I beg, can’t you give them something else to tell us that will EMPOWER US? We need it God. There is so much negativity and hopelessness, we need something to UPLIFT US.

Please I mean no disrespect but we are sick and tired of all these PROPHETS OF DOOM!!!!

This is my small request.

Prophecies on Ebony’s death

KSM’s call comes on the back of recent testaments of prophecies that had earlier been made about Ebony’s death.

Bullet, manager of Ebony has also confirmed prophecy from music producer Kaywa, who had the revelation of the accident which claimed the life of the dance hall artiste and asked them to donate to an orphanage and also release a gospel song.

The head pastor and founder of the True Word Prophetic Fire Ministry located at Achimota Mile 7, Prophet Nigel Gaise, is also seen in a video emphatically stating that Ebony was going to be killed in an accident and that nothing could save her.

Recently, Shatta Wale has recently gone berserk after a pastor prophesied that he would be the next celebrity to die.

He has threatened to burn down the churches if he is alive by the December, 2018.

Ace comedian and actor, Kwaku Sintim-Misa aka KSM has reacted to comedian Khemikal’s recent statement that Ghanaian comedians are broke.

In an interview with Citi Showbiz on Friday, 1st December, 2017, Daniel Selase, known in showbiz as Khemikal intimated that Ghanaian comedians were poor because event organisers paid them low fees.

“Ghanaian comedians are broke because most event organisers, especially those who mount the big billboards and do all the advertisement in the media are not willing to pay us per our standards. They are willing to pay an international act about $20,000 dollars but will pay a Ghanaian GHc 1,000 because they feel we are Ghanaians,” he lamented.

Khemikal, a Computer Programmer who holds BSc in Computer Science from the University of Ghana, added that comedians who were doing well in life had other jobs they relied on.

“If you see any Ghanaian comedian doing well in his life, then maybe he has another job and he’s using money from that job to build his brand,” he said

In reference to Khemikal’s assertion, KSM took to Facebook to proffer an advice to Khemikal, Ghanaian comedians and creative artists at large.

According to KSM, comedians the world over are not paid well so it is important that every comedian gets a ‘day job’ aside comedy.

Read KSM’s post below:

“THE BUSINESS OF COMEDY
“No laughing matter”

I read Khemical’s statement on citifmonline about how GH Comedians are broke. Well folks, you will be surprised to KNOW that its [sic] not only GH comedians that are broke. Some of the “brokest” and seriously hassling [sic] comedians are in the US!

In Gh, one of the strong platforms for comedians to test their material is Laugh-line. The equivalent of that in New York, is called “THE IMPROV”

To get on the Improv platform in New York, budding comedians have to get to the venue as early as 3 AM to line up. Yes even in the winter. They stay in the line till 9am. On a normal day, there could be as many as 200 people in the line before 6am. By the time the doors open at 9 am, there could be as many as 500 talented comedians. The about five hundred people will whittle down to a shortlist of 12 people.

If you are lucky enough to be in the final twelve, you will be invited to come back to the venue in the evening at 7 pm. At that point, you will be put on a stage and given 5 minutes to display your comedy skills before a very vibrant live audience full of hecklers. if you are lucky to mount that stage, and take one look at the crazy audience, that is when it dawns on you that the business of comedy “is no laughing matter”.

Many comedians go through this routine several times before they get selected to be featured as guest performers. “Many fall by the wayside”. When you hassle enough to be elevated to the status of a guest performer at the IMPROV, they only pay you get is a drink of your choice and a couple of free doughnuts on the house. NO MONEY: “Comedians abre”!!!

The amazing thing is how every comedian aspires to be a guest performer at the IMPROV. Even as a guest performer, the CV value is VERY HIGH. . Guest performers at the IMPROV walk with their shoulders high. I know, I have been one before. YEARS AGO!!!!

But don’t get me wrong, when you hang in the business LONG ENOUGH and you keep thrilling the audiences consistently you will get to the next level of ELEVATION where your name is put on the Marquee or LED screens. When that happens the cash SLOWLY begins to roll in. YOU ARE BECOMING A BRAND. From that point onwards a good agent or manager will drive your career further. That is the path most of the well known comedians took.”

I am saying this to let the hardworking GH comedians always keep in mind that business of comedy “IS NO LAUGHING MATTER” Charlie – eno be easy kraaa!!! Especially in Ghana where the market is not vibrant and support structures are non-existent.

This situation makes it very hard to pursue comedy professionally in GH. By that I mean DEPENDING on ONLY STAND-UP comedy for your livelihood. Nah, YOU WILL BE BROKE.

In the US they have an expression: “DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB.” This is the advice that goes out specifically to creative artistes. It simply means that you must have a fall back job that generates regular income and while you have that going, you can practice comedy as a “professional hobby”. If you hang in long enough to the point where the income from the comedy is so good that you can afford to do only comedy fine. If not, DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB.

A classic example I know in GH is OB. He is a medical Doctor and a practicing comedian. He has his DAY JOB! As much as he loves comedy and as great as he is, it is not his main income source. HE WILL NOT QUIT HIS DAY JOB. Even in Nigeria, I will not be surprised to know that some of their comedians who come here to perform have their DAY JOBS.

In the future, I will be sharing with you some of the “tricks of the trade”. In the meantime keep in mind that the BUSINESS comedy IS NO LAUGHING MATTER!!!!

And please DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!!!!”

Ghanaian stand-up comedians, few years ago struggled to gain the attention of Ghanaians until recently when the likes of DKB, Foster, OB, Khemikal and Lekzy found the ‘G-spot’ of the Ghanaian’s humour buds and tickled them to their relish.

After many years of ‘fighting’ to be accepted by the Ghanaian comedy audience, they embark on another cause to get paid well.

Despite the recent scathing critiques of comedian DKB over his lacklustre performance at the Easter Comedy Show, ace satirist Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has asserted that DKB is still King of GH Comedy.

Last week, it was reported that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings walked out during his performance at the Easter Comedy show which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre.

According to the report, Mrs. Rawlings left the auditorium because most of the comedians told jokes loaded with risqué language.

The Graphic Showbiz had also reported a supposed statement made by the former first lady implying that the comedian, DKB was not funny.

“An avid patron of concerts and comedy shows, the former First Lady made her way to the exit as soon as the famous Ghanaian comedian mounted the stage, saying to the hearing of other patrons seated close by, including this writer [Jayne Buckman-Owoo], “don’t mind him; his jokes are boring”,” the reported indicated.

That notwithstanding, KSM who crowned DKB ‘King of Comedy’ a few years ago, has in an interview with MzGee on Hitz FM’s Showbiz this Week said that the night’s show cannot take DKB’s shine away from him.

He said DKB’s sense of humour is unrivalled and maintained that the comedian reigns supreme over his colleagues at present.

“He has an amazing sense of humour. DKB is a very funny person. He is very hilarious. When he did his show called Point of View, he practically filled up the National Theatre. His last show I saw at Silverbird, he got a standing ovation. So, he has one bad night and all of a sudden, it’s like he is the worst that ever happened to Ghana comedy, I don’t think it is a fair assessment.”

Lastly, KSM also intimated that DKB took Ghanaian stand-up comedy from the grip of the Nigerian comedians and has raised the bar of the comedy game in Ghana.

“He broke that chain when he went toe to toe with the Nigerian and flawed them. He went toe to toe with Basket Mouth and flawed him without a doubt. I am begging that let’s not use that one night to judge his string of performances,” he said.

In the meantime, DKB has accepted that he presented wrong content to the wrong audience and has pledged to work harder on his craft to give his fans quality shows henceforth.
