Four students of the Koforidua Technical University, have filed for an injunction against the school’s Students Representative Council (SRC) elections.

The four, Prince Akoto Appaetu, Opoku Garry, Benjamin Arthur and Gospel Klint who filed a Motion for Interlocutory injunction, seek to restrain the school’s Electoral Commission from conducting the 2017/2018 elections for the executive officers, until the final determination of the case.

Reports say one of the four students who filed for the injunction was disqualified during the vetting for an executive position, over his demand that the electoral commission reverses to holding an electronic system of voting rather than the manual one for fear of rigging.

Citi News sources say the school’s management is in a crunch meeting with the 4 students to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, there is heavy military and police presence at the school to provide security as the school’s Electoral Commission insists it will go ahead with the elections.

Godfred Frimpong, the chairman of the school’s Electoral Commission in an interview with Citi News, said he has heard about the said injunction but has not been served with it formally.

“Last [Monday] night, I was in a meeting when I was informed a gentleman wanted to see me, but I was busy and asked him to wait. It was later that I heard that an injunction notice had been posted on the school’s notice board, but personally I haven’t signed to receive any injunction,” he said.

Frimpong continued that “as at now, am waiting to meet other members of the commission to see the way forward, because I did not sign to receive any letter. The SRC office I’m told has received an official injunction letter so we all have to sit and make a decision,” he added.

Some students have expressed their disappointment at the turn of events as the school is set to vacate next week.
