According to the court presided over by Victoria Ghansah, the prosecution has been able to establish a prima facie case against the accused, Jihad Chabaan.

The judge therefore ordered Jihad Chaban’s legal team to open their defence on the adjourned date of Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Background

Jihad Chabaan has been accused of dipping the face of a Ghanaian female caterer at the Abelekpe branch of Marwako into blended pepper.

He has thus been charged with assault.

I want justice to prevail –Victim

There has been a huge public interest in the case, and the victim has called for justice.

The 25 –year old said she was kept in the facility for several hours after her face was dipped in hot pepper by her Supervisor, Jihad Chaaban, preventing her other worried colleagues from helping her.

“I want justice to prevail so that next time when these people come here and work with us, they will know that we have our right to say what is bothering us.”

According to lawyers for Chabaan, who made the request in court today [Thursday], the charges preferred against their client are misdemeanors, and that the court has the power to order the parties to attempt an out of court settlement.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qkcnJ15dqPOaGCo2d9oYV3uyRZ7g7LvL”]He cited section 73 of the Courts Act in his argument, to back his request. The application was however opposed by the prosecution, arguing that one of the charges of causing harm, is a second-degree felony.

Jihad Chabaan is alleged to have pushed the victim’s face into blended pepper on Sunday, February 26, 2017. He has since been suspended by Management of Marwako, whiles he is facing trial.

The Police granted Mr. Chaaban bail of GHc 20,000 with two sureties, and as part of his bail conditions, he is expected to report to the Tesano District Police Station every Tuesday and Friday.

The case has been adjourned to April 10, 2017.
