The home of Nollywood and Ghanaian movies, and Africa’s leading digital entertainment company, IROKOtv is set to be launched in Ghana this week.

IROKOtv will bring the best movies and original TV series to Ghanaian fans.

Some of the most recent movies and TV series include Stalemate, Ghana Must Go and Black and White.

Launched by Ghanaian superstar Jackie Appiah, IROKOtv has rolled out over 25 bright pink kiosks across Accra, that will enable users to download Ghanaian and Nigerian movies and TV series directly onto their mobile devices, without using any of their data allowance.

Kiosks can be found in areas including Accra Mall, A & C Mall, Oxford Street Osu, VVIP Circle, KFC Haatso, Pure Fire Ministry Achimota, Adenta SSNIT Fats, Accra Polytechnic, National Lottery, Accra Central and Lagos Avenue.

Jackie Appiah said: “I have worked with IROKOtv since their earliest days, and am so proud that they are now coming to Accra to bring even more amazing Ghanaian and Nollywood content to our fans here. The IROKOtv app is really easy to use, the selection of movies is really impressive and now, especially with the free downloads from the kiosks, it couldn’t be easier. Whether you’re in hair and makeup on-set, which is where I often catch up on my content, or you’re on the trotro headed to work, you can watch your favourite stars anytime, anywhere”.

IROKOtv will be launching across Accra with a team of nearly 30 and expect the number of staff to increase to 140 by the end of November, to bring 100% Ghanaian and Nigerian movies and TV series to subscribers’ mobile phones, for only GHC 25 for a one-year subscription.

IROKOtv kiosks will be staffed six days a week – from Monday to Saturday – and movie fans can purchase subscriptions, download the app on their smart phones, and download movies directly onto their phone, data free.

Here’s how to subscribe:

Step 1: Users can visit any of the kiosks and an agent will help them download the IROKOtv app on the user’s mobile device or tablet.

Step 2: The agent will also help the user subscribe to IROKOtv, facilitate offline payments and also provide free data download of the subscribers choice of Ghanaian and Nigerian movies or TV Series.

Step 3: Users can enjoy their download movies at their own convenience – anytime, anywhere, anyplace.

Jason Njoku, CEO of IROKO added: “Ghanaian movies and Nollywood are part of the fabric of African entertainment; the very best of African storytelling. We know that our Ghanaian neighbours cannot get enough great content, but that data costs have all too often been prohibitive to them watching content online. We hope that with the launch of the IROKOtv kiosks across Ghana that provide data-free downloads, and a one-year subscription to IROKOtv at just GHC 25, we will be able to build an even bigger community of online Nollywood fans here in Ghana”.

Teenage Commonwealth Games gold medallist Chika Amalaha is facing a doping ban after failing a drugs test.

The Nigerian, 16, won weightlifting gold with a combined total of 196kg in the women’s 53kg category.

The Commonwealth Games Federation says it will meet on Friday to determine her punishment following her positive ‘B’ sample test.

Amalaha was provisionally suspended from the Games after an ‘A’ sample was found to contain banned substances.

The samples contained amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, which are both prohibited as diuretics and masking agents.

After confirming the positive test, CGF chief executive Mike Hooper said: “I can’t and won’t speculate on what the outcome might be.

“We have a robust process in place that must be followed to ensure fairness to all.”

Amalaha was the first athlete to fail a test at the Games, but Welsh 400m hurdler Rhys Williams and 800m runner Gareth Warburton both missed the competition after being charged with anti-doping rule violations.

Both athletes deny knowingly taking any banned substance.

The World Anti-Doping Agency recommends a standard two-year ban for a first doping offence.
