US President Donald Trump has launched a Twitter tirade about the “guilt” of Hillary Clinton and the opposition Democratic Party.

His Sunday morning outburst came amid reports that the first arrest in the Russian collusion inquiry would be made this week, possibly as early as Monday.

Mr Trump insisted allegations of collusion between his campaign and Russia were “phony” and a “witch hunt”.

He said Republicans were united behind him, before urging: “DO SOMETHING!”

Media reports say the first charges have been filed in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election to assist Mr Trump.

It is not clear what the charges are and whom they are targeting, CNN and Reuters report, quoting unnamed sources.

Mr Trump issued a series of four tweets on Sunday morning:

  • “Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton made Fake Dossier (now $12,000,000?),….
  • “…the Uranium to Russia deal, the 33,000 plus deleted Emails, the Comey fix and so much more. Instead they look at phony Trump/Russia,….
  • “…’collusion,’ which doesn’t exist. The Dems are using this terrible (and bad for our country) Witch Hunt for evil politics, but the R’s…
  • “…are now fighting back like never before. There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out. DO SOMETHING!”

About an hour later he tweeted: “All of this ‘Russia’ talk right when the Republicans are making their big push for historic Tax Cuts & Reform. Is this coincidental? NOT!”

Critics on Twitter were quick to accuse him of attempting to divert attention from the Russian investigation by complaining about the lack of focus on an opponent he defeated in the presidential election nearly a year ago.

Russian hackers are targeting the campaign of French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron, say security experts.

Phishing emails, malware and fake net domains were all being used as attack techniques, said Feike Hacquebord, from security company Trend Micro.

The attackers are believed to be part of the same group that targeted the US election.

Russia has denied that it is behind attacks aimed at Mr Macron.

Digital fingerprint

In a report, Mr Hacquebord said the group behind the “aggressive” attacks was a collective of Russian hackers known widely as Fancy Bear, APT28 and Pawn Storm.

He said the group was using an extensive arsenal of high-tech con tricks to grab the login names, passwords and other credentials of staff aiding Mr Macron’s bid to be the next French president.

Mr Macron got through the first round of the presidential election as did Marine Le Pen.

In particular, said Mr Hacquebord, the hacker group had registered several net domains similar to those already registered by the French politician’s staff.

The fake domains were then used in phishing emails sent to key workers in an attempt to get them to visit the websites so login details could be scooped up.

The hackers were also abusing a system called OAuth that let people log into one service using the credentials they use for another.

Mr Hacquebord said telltale techniques of the group lent weight to the idea that the people involved in the French attacks were behind ones seen last year in the US.

Hillary Clinton
The Pawn Storm group has been implicated in attacks on the Democratic National Congress

“We have seen that phishing sites were set up, and the fingerprints were really the same actors as in the Democratic National Congress breach,” he told the Reuters news agency.

A spokesman for the French national cyber-security agency, ANSSI, confirmed that it too had seen several attacks on Mr Macron’s staff and back-office systems.

However, a spokesman for the agency said it was difficult to be sure that the Pawn Storm group was behind the attacks.

A spokesman for the Macron campaign said it knew about the range of attacks aimed at it and none had led to the release of sensitive data.

“These are usual cyber-attack tactics,” Mounir Mahjoubi told CNN.

“We have set up a security team and every member of the staff is trained to report these attempts.”

A security researcher called The Grugq, who is known as an expert on operational security, said Mr Macron’s campaign was an easier target than some because of its reliance on the Telegram app for messaging.

“Its security is not particularly strong compared with alternatives, and the defaults guide users towards insecure practices,” he wrote.

The Pawn Storm group is also believed to have been involved in other attacks on political organisations, including the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, the Turkish government and Montenegro’s parliament, as well as the World Anti-Doping Agency and Arabic television channel al-Jazeera.

Hillary Clinton has laid bare her disappointment at her election defeat to Donald Trump in her first public appearance since she lost a week ago.

The Democratic candidate said in a speech in Washington DC that she had never wanted to leave the house again.

She told a children’s charity that the election had prompted soul-searching for many Americans.

Mrs Clinton won the popular vote but was beaten to the presidency in the all-important US electoral college.

“Now I will admit coming here tonight wasn’t the easiest thing for me,” she said as she was honoured by the Children’s Defense Fund.

“There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do was to curl up with a good book and never leave the house again.”

At the scene: Laura Bicker, BBC News

There was little ceremony and no sign of security for the former presidential candidate who is known simply as “Hillary” in this circle of friends.

The audience were on their feet and chanting her name as she took to the podium. When she talked about her disappointment, murmurs of agreement spread through the room in waves.

That murmur grew louder as she urged those listening not to lose heart – this was an emotional plea for action.

The event was entitled Beat the Odds, which offers hope for some of America’s most underprivileged children and celebrates their achievements.

But I spoke to one man who told me that he could offer little hope to the young African Americans he mentors in the wake of this election.

Hillary Clinton used her voice tonight to try help change that and dissuade others from feeling despondent.

The candidate may be gone, and right now “Hillary” looks like she might run home and curl back up on the sofa, but there is a still a spark left in the first woman who got this far in trying to reach the White House.

She continued: “I know many of you are deeply disappointed about the results of the election. I am, too, more than I can ever express.

“I know this isn’t easy. I know that over the past week a lot of people have asked themselves whether America is the country we thought it was.

“The divisions laid bare by this election run deep, but please listen to me when I say this.

“America is worth it. Our children are worth it. Believe in our country, fight for our values and never, ever give up.”

In her concession speech after her shock defeat last week, Mrs Clinton said rival Donald Trump must be given the chance to lead.

Since then she has kept a low profile, although she was spotted while out walking.

In a phone call leaked to US media she also blamed her loss on FBI director James Comey, who announced a new inquiry into her use of a private email server in the run up to the vote.

Hillary Clinton is delivering her concession speech at from the New Yorker Hotel’s Grand Ballroom following he loss to Republic Donald Trump in the 2016 US elections.

It will be the first time that the former presidential candidate will publicly address her staff and supporters following her unexpected defeat to Donald Trump.

Clinton had been expected to give the speech at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City during the night, when her loss became clear. Instead, John Podesta, her campaign manager, said there would be no announcement until the morning.

“Well folks, I know we’ve been here a long time and I know it’s been a long night and I know it’s been a long campaign. But I know we can wait a little longer,” he told the crowd assembled at around 2am. “We will have more to say tomorrow.”

Within the hour, Clinton called Trump to concede her defeat.

AKUFO-ADDO CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP

I join many across the world in extending my warmest congratulations to the President-Elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump, on his victory in the November 8 election. His competitor, Secretary Hillary Clinton, is also to be applauded for graciously conceding defeat.

The result of the election, which has resulted in a change in government after 8-years of the Obama-led Democratic government, has strengthened even further the status of the United States of America as a bastion of democracy in the modern world.

I commend the Republican Party, the sister party of the New Patriotic Party and a fellow member of the International Democrat Union (IDU), for maintaining control of the Senate, thereby presenting the President-Elect a minimum of two years of a “unified” government.

It is my sincere hope that President-Elect Trump’s tenure of office will be marked by the economic empowerment of the American people, as well as the delivery of unity, security, progress and prosperity to all Americans. It is also my overriding hope that Ghanaian-American relations will grow from strength to strength under his Presidency, which have, over the years, been based on a shared agenda of freedom, development, progress and prosperity.

Warm congratulations once again to President-Elect Donald Trump and the people of the United States of America. God bless him and the American people, and best wishes for his and the country’s continued success.

A Nevada judge on Tuesday rejected Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s request for records from a Las Vegas polling place that the campaign said had allowed people to vote after a deadline last week.

Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton are in a close contest for Nevada’s six electoral votes in Tuesday’s election after a long and contentious campaign. Nevada is one of several states that permits early voting and Las Vegas is viewed as a base of support for Clinton.

Nevada state law says voters who are in line at 8 p.m., when the polls close, must be allowed to cast their ballots. Trump’s lawsuit, filed in a Nevada state court on Monday, said election officials violated state law because they allowed people to join the line after 8 p.m. at a polling location at a Latino market during last week’s early voting period.

Trump a New York businessman and reality TV personality who has never previously run for political office, said last month that he might not accept the outcome of the national election if he thinks it is unfair.

“We have to keep the system honest,” Trump said on Fox News on Tuesday before Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Gloria Sturman rejected his request.

The suit had asked the court to order officials to preserve various records from the Cardenas Market and to segregate ballots from the voting machines at issue.

At a court hearing in Las Vegas on Tuesday, a county attorney argued that election officials already preserve records. Sturman agreed, saying she did not want to issue an order that could help reveal which candidate were chosen by particular voters.

The Trump campaign also had asked for information about poll workers on duty at the market and Sturman said she was concerned they might face threats for helping people vote.

“Have you watched Twitter? Do you watch any cable news shows? People can get information and harass them,” the judge said.

Clinton spokesman Glen Caplin said the campaign was pleased by the ruling and described Trump’s suit as “a desperate response to the record turnout we’re seeing in Nevada and across the country.”

US election

The US, which is regarded as one of the most powerful  countries in the world  is electing a new leader.

The race is primarily between Democratic Candidate, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump, who is the Republican Candidate, with a few third party and independent presidential candidates also running in the election.

Mrs. Clinton cast her vote with Bill Clinton in New York state, describing it as a humbling experience. Mr Trump cast his vote in New York city with a call for “proper leadership”.

Both candidates targeted battleground states on Monday, with campaigning taking them to rallies in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Americans are choosing a new president after one of the most rancorous election campaigns the country has seen.

Democratic contender Mrs Clinton urged voters to back a “hopeful, inclusive, big-hearted America” while Mr Trump told supporters they had a “magnificent chance to beat the corrupt system”.

us-elections

Polls give Mrs Clinton a four-point lead over Republican Mr Trump. A record number of Americans – more than 46 million – have voted early by post or at polling stations.

There are signs of a high turnout among Hispanic voters, which is believed to favour Mrs Clinton. Long queues have formed at polling stations in the key battleground state of Virginia, a BBC correspondent reports.

The rivals held the final rallies of their campaigns after midnight – Mr Trump in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mrs Clinton in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“Today the American working class is going to strike back, finally,” said Mr Trump, pledging to reverse job losses.

Earlier, in New Hampshire, he told supporters: “We are just one day away from the change you’ve been waiting for all your life.

“Together we will make America wealthy again, we will make America strong again, we will make America safe again and we will make America great again.”

Mrs Clinton told her audience that they did not “have to accept a dark and divisive vision of America”.

She looked forward to “a fairer, stronger, better America. An America where we build bridges, not walls. And where we prove conclusively that love trumps hate”.

Election day follows a bitter campaign during which the candidates have traded insults and become mired in a series of scandals.

Americans are choosing between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as voting in the US presidential election goes into full swing.

It began with villages in New Hampshire just after midnight before states throughout the East Coast started polling at 06:00 EST (11:00 GMT).

Mr Trump cast his vote in New York city with a call for “proper leadership”.

She looked forward to “a fairer, stronger, better America. An America where we build bridges, not walls. And where we prove conclusively that love trumps hate”.

Election day follows a bitter campaign during which the candidates have traded insults and become mired in a series of scandals.

At a star-studded event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs Clinton was joined on stage by celebrities Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi as well as her husband Bill, President Obama and his wife Michelle.

At his rally in Scranton in the same state, Mr Trump insisted the momentum was with his campaign.

The businessman described Mrs Clinton as the “most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency”, referring to an FBI investigation into Mrs Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was serving as secretary of state between 2009 and 2013.

On Sunday Mrs Clinton’s campaign received a boost when the FBI said newly discovered emails sent by an aide showed no evidence of criminality.

Election day voting began just after midnight in the small New Hampshire village of Dixville Notch, where seven votes were cast – four for Mrs Clinton, two for Mr Trump and one for the libertarian Gary Johnson.

All 50 states and Washington DC will vote across six different time zones.

Results are expected some time after 23:00 EST (04:00 GMT on Wednesday) once voting ends on the West Coast. State projections will not be available until polling ends – in most states between 19:00 EST (24:00 GMT) and 20:00 EST (01:00 GMT).

Americans are also voting for Congress. All of the House of Representatives – currently Republican controlled – is up for grabs, and a third of seats in the Senate, which is also in Republican hands.

A post on the TB Joshua Ministries Facebook page quoted TB Joshua as saying he saw a woman emerge as the winner of the elections.

“Ten days ago, I saw the new president of America with a narrow win. The new President will be facing several challenges over many issues, including: passing bills, attempts to possibly pass a vote of no confidence on the new president. The boat of the new president will be rocked. By the way, in order not to keep you in suspense, what I frankly saw is a woman,” the post said.

Transcripts of private speeches by US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have been released by the whistle-blowing site Wikileaks.

In one of the extracts, Mrs Clinton told bankers that they were best-placed to help reform the US financial sector.

She also said she favoured “open trade and open borders”. Mrs Clinton’s main opponent, Donald Trump, has said he wants to renegotiate key trade deals.

Mrs Clinton had refused to publish the transcripts, from 2013 and 2014.

Her rival in the Democratic primaries, Bernie Sanders, had repeatedly called on her to release the text of her speeches, which are thought to have earned her about $26m (£21m).

‘Dream of a common market’

The excerpts include comments made at an event sponsored by Goldman Sachs in October 2013 in which Mrs Clinton spoke of the need to consult Wall Street over financial reform.

“The people that know the industry better than anybody are the people who work in the industry,” Mrs Clinton said.

At another speech presented to a Brazilian bank in 2013, she spoke of her “dream” for a common trade market.

“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere,” Mrs Clinton said.

The leak comes after the US accused Russia of a cyber attack against political organisations intended to influence the presidential election.

Supporters of Donald Trump had been hopeful that Wikileaks would release an “October Surprise” this week to put an end to Mrs Clinton’s presidential hopes.

Campaign staff are believed to have been sent Mrs Clinton’s speeches to identify passages that could be potentially problematic if they became public, AP news agency reports.

Wikileaks posted thousands of emails, including exchanges with her campaign aide John Podesta. The release covers messages dating back years but also features some from as recently as last month.

Mr Podesta referred to the disclosures as a Russian hack, suggesting some of the documents may have been altered.

“I’m not happy about being hacked by the Russians in their quest to throw the election to Donald Trump,” Mr Podesta wrote. “Don’t have time to figure out which docs are real and which are faked.”
