After six days of touring the country, the Citi FM Heritage Caravan has returned to Accra.

The Second edition of the Heritage Caravan, saw over ninety tourists embark on a road trip to discover the rich and lovely story of Ghana embedded in different parts of the country.

Great sponsors

The 2017 trip was sponsored by Vodafone Cash, HFC Susu Plus Account and Top Oil.

Day one

The Heritage Caravan’s first tour was Ga Mashie, where patrons took a view of the capital from the top of the Jamestown Lighthouse.

The colonial-era lighthouse was built in the 1930s and sits in the fishing communities of this area.

Day four

The second night of the #HeritageCaravan in Tamale, was spectacular.

Two remarkable things happened: The Chief Executive Officer of Citi FM, Samuel Atta-Mensah was enskinned as a sub-chief by the Chief of Tamale, Dakpema Naa Dawuni Alhassan, at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Tamale.

The President of Groupe Ideal, Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, has been elected the Council of State representative of the Greater Accra Region.

Dr. Dzani polled 20 votes followed by Nene Kanor Attiapah with 12 votes. The remaining candidates had zero votes.

Following his victory, Dr. Dzani was accused of bribing the delegates by two of his fellow contestants.

One of the aggrieved contestants, Alberta Sitsofe Adukor-Asola, intimated her loss was “because I didn’t give money, unfortunately. It is high time this kind of politicking, we stop it in this country.”

The Greater Accra Region poll was an area of interest given that the former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah, was scheduled to take part in the election, but later withdrew at the last minute citing personal reasons.

The NDC executives of the Ningo-Prampram constituency had prior to his withdrawal expressed their disappointment with the former MP’s decision, saying it would send wrong signals to the grassroots members of the party, since they would think that t he has defected to the governing New Patriotic Party.

A total of 113 candidates between the ages of 23 and 84, are contesting in the election, which will take place in all regional capitals across the country.

Work on the 100-bed Madina Hospital in the Greater Accra Region is progressing steadily, Mohammed Saied, the Resident Electrical Engineer of the Project, announced in Accra, over the weekend.

Mr Saied made the announcement at a tour of the hospital by a delegation of Euroget De-Invest S.A and the media.

He said the work was about 40 per cent complete, explaining that by June 2017, the hospital would be completed barring any unforeseen situation and would be handed over to the Government.

hospital

The hospital is one of the nine, being built by Euroget De-Invest S.A, a member of the Euroget Group of Egypt, under the Turn-Key project, to increase access to specialised health care services.

The ultra-modern hospital has departments such as Administration, Maintenance, Operation Theatres, Emergency and Casualty Departments, Physiotherapy, Water Treatment Plant, a Mini-market, and a security post.

Mr Saied said he was optimistic that the project would be completed on schedule to serve the health needs of patients in the catchment area.

Mr Baba Anaba, the Administrator for Euroget De-Invest S.A, appealed to the public to see the projects as property of the State, and avoid playing politics with it otherwise a partisan attitude would undermine the development of national infrastructure.

The Company was awarded the Contract in 2010 to construct eight Hospitals for the Ministry of Health and a 500-Bed Military Hospital in Kumasi, for the Ministry of Defence.

The projects, include a 160-Bed Regional Hospital at Wa in the Upper West Region, a 60-Bed District Hospital for Salaga in the Northern Region and a 60-Bed District Hospital at Tepa in Ashanti.

Others are a 60- Bed District Hospital for Nsawkaw in Brong Ahafo and a 60-Bed District Hospital, slated for Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

The rest are a 250-Bed Regional Hospital for Ashanti and a 60-Bed Hospital for Twifo Praso District in the Western Region.

The delegation saw workers working to meet the deadline with heavy duty equipment to facilitate their work.

Other members were Mr Prince Armah, the Country Manager of Euroget De-Invest S.A, Mr Charles Mankatah, Project Manager, and Mr Omar Wahied, Mechanical Engineer.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated its resolve to capture over 25 seats in the Greater Accra Region alone.

Out of the 34 seats in the region, the NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party control 20 and 14 respectively; but the NDC is hoping to increase its number to 25.

[contextly_sidebar id=”oXjrJgPTAgxEsxydVKOMxB47F10JmuuL”]Electoral history shows that, the party that wins more seats in the region usually wins the presidential election.

Addressing party supporters at the launch of the Dadekotopon campaign, the party’s Greater Accra Campaign Chairman, Sylvester Mensah, was optimistic the NDC will hit the target come December.

“…If Ghana is sick and we are going to get medication for it ; and you know of a medicine that is able to provide markets, construct school buildings and roads and we hear of another medicine which we know nothing about, which of these will you buy for the country?

“I am telling you that we are winning in Ada, Prampram, Sege, Tema, Ashaiman, Krowor, Ledzokuku, Dadekotopon, Osu, Ga West, Odododiodioo, Ablekuma, Klottey Korle and everywhere.”

NDC’s strategy for election 2016

The NDC has launched its national  and regional campaign teams aimed at ensuring victory for the party in the December 7 general elections.

The party has also mapped out some strategies nationwide aimed at giving its presidential candidate, President John Dramani Mahama a second term; including agenda 50/50 in the Eastern Region, one million votes in Ashanti Region, one million votes in the Volta Region among others.
