The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (Telecoms Chamber) has announced the appointment of Mr Kenneth Ashigbey as Chief Executive Officer.

He assumes duty on November 1, 2017.

Mr Ashigbey will join the Chamber from the Graphic Communications Group Limited, where he has been the Managing Director.

He was previously the CEO at Optimum Media Prime (OMP) and also worked as the Chief Technology Officer at the Multimedia Group Ltd.

With a customer base of more than 19 million unique subscribers in Ghana, the mobile industry continues to change how we communicate. We look forward to working with Ken to deliver a lot more excitement to customers.”

On his part Mr Ashigbey said, “I am honoured to be joining the industry at such a time of significant opportunities, despite the progress made. The Chamber will continue to positively impact the lives of Ghanaians by advocating the right policy, legal and regulatory environment.”

He expressed appreciation for the tremendous work done by his predecessor, Mr Kwaku Sakyi-Addo and remained confident that “together, we can build on that”.

Mr Ashigbey holds an MBA from the Leicester University and a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from the (KNUST).

The Managing Director of state-owned Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Kenneth Ashigbey, has resigned from the company.

Some sources at the company who confirmed the development to citifmonline.com, said Mr. Ashigbey made the revelation in an internal memo to the staff.

In the memo, Mr. Ashigbey noted that, he has forwarded his resignation letter to the National Media Commission awaiting response.

“I have followed your concern about the rumours of my resignation. Such a concern is legitimate because I owe you a duty to inform you that if I have resigned, and I admit that you should be the first to know. I am sorry for leaving you in suspense this while…The truth is that, I have tendered my resignation to my employer, the NMC. However, they are yet to respond to my letter. This is the reason why I have not officially informed you of my decision. I believe courtesy demands that I receive the feedback before I announce it. I am still awaiting that response and I will inform you accordingly,” the memo stated.

Mr. Ashigbey joined GCGL in November 1, 2011.

Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, an engineer, and communications expert, is a product of St Augustine’s College, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, where he graduated in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and holds a Masters in Business Administration.

He was a General Manager at Joy FM from 2003 to 2006, Managing Director of Optimum Media Prime (OMP), Accra from 2007 to 2010, and was formerly the Chief Operating Officer of Multimedia Group Limited (MULTI TV).

About 1,500 residents of Adabraka and its environs in Accra, have benefited from a free health screening exercise organized by Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) in partnership with the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).

The exercise comprised free dental screening, eye care, general medical screening and Hepatitis B and C screening, as well as vaccination.

Some beneficiaries of the exercise under the age of 18 as well as those above 60 were registered onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The annual event, according to the Finance Director of Accra Brewery Limited, (ABL), Graham Lurie, fulfils the company’s objective of helping to create a thriving world where incomes and quality of life grows.

Mr. Lurie added that, ABL will continue to support the acceleration of growth and social development through its value chains with such health interventions.

“Health is an essential component in the development of every community. At Accra Brewery, creating a thriving world also means, investing in people but most importantly it is investing in physical well-being which fosters prosperity for all” he affirmed.

Mr Lurie assured the Adabraka community of ABL’s continuous support and thanked its partners in the exercise – Graphic Communications Group Limited, as well as Voltic (GH) Limited, for donating natural mineral water to refresh the beneficiaries.

The Hepatitis B Foundation and the Accra Diamond Lions Club also provided free services.

The Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Kenneth Ashigbey, expressed his appreciation to the community for creating a peaceful atmosphere for his company to thrive, noting that, the free healthcare is an expression of gratitude to the people of Adabraka for being a kind host.

Over the past years, ABL has undertaken a number of initiatives aimed at supporting health care delivery in the Ghana, in its quest to augment government’s efforts to attain the nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The company has been investing in an annual free HIV/AIDS screening for residents of Agbobloshie.

It has for the third year running, been engaged in a campaign to prevent alcohol consumption among pregnant women in a campaign aimed at reaching 5000 women this year.
This is the eighth collaborative health intervention between ABL and Graphic Communications Group Limited, for the Adabraka community and its environs.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced some security measures it will soon undertake to ensure an incident-free Akwasidae Kese festival celebration.

The Akwasidae Kesse is a festival celebrated by the Ashanti people and this year’s festival will climax the 15th anniversary celebration of the coronation of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye in a press briefing at Kumasi on Thursday, stated that the police in the region are poised to instil stringent measures to ensure the safety of residents.

“Our objective is to ensure peace and order, so people can enjoy the festival in its entirety; because of this, we have made a lot of security arrangements,” he said

DCOP Boakye announced that some major roads in the metropolis will be closed to traffic during the festival saying, “it must be emphasized that because of the number of people who will throng the stadium, it is imperative that some roads are blocked.”

15th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu

The 15th anniversary of the reign of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II began last month to mark over a decade since the king was enstooled on the Golden stool.

The Manhyia Palace announced a 20-day festival to mark the celebrations. Numerous events in the region have taken place to honor the Asantehene.

He recently celebrated his 64th birthday on Tuesday, 6th May 2014.

The Asantehene is the 16th King of the Ashanti Kingdom. He ascended the Golden Stool on 26 April 1999.
