Some corporate bodies have partnered with Citi FM/Citi TV for a memorable odyssey on the 2024 Heritage Caravan.

The National Lottery Authority (NLA), Hollard Group (a leading insurer), and the state-owned oil and gas marketing company, GOIL PLC, have pledged sponsorship for the much-anticipated 2024 Heritage Caravan.

The annual 8-day road trip, scheduled from March 3 to March 10, provides participants with a unique experience to explore Ghana’s cultural heritage.

Head of Events and Partnerships, Frema Adunyame, expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their involvement in making the road trip a memorable experience.

“We have sponsorships from the National Lottery, GOIL, Hollard; these companies came in, and they really understand what it means to represent your company. They come in with all the excitement, and they have done this continuously. GOIL is the same; I’m not surprised GOIL is always with us because we need the state fuel company to support us in doing this. They always come through for us, and then we also have NLA coming in. Sponsors, we are very grateful to you for coming in to support us. We know there are a lot of sponsors who are coming on board.”

She stressed, “Yes, more sponsors are coming. If you are interested in sponsoring, this is the time before we have sponsors also sold out. If you are a company, and you want to be associated with Heritage Caravan, this is the time to do so; you can still call 0205973973. We say a great thank you to our sponsors.”

Frema Adunyame also reiterated that the 2024 Heritage Caravan is officially sold out.

“Sold out means sold out. You know, at Citi FM/Citi TV, we don’t believe in sensationalism. We don’t believe in unnecessary hyping and all those kinds of things. What people are forgetting is that we are also interested in getting the money. If there are seats, why would we turn people away?”

“The truth of the matter is we are sold out. Currently, if you are interested in becoming part of the 2024 Heritage Caravan, it cannot be possible. We don’t have any seats, not even one for patrons; that’s the unfortunate bit about it. Those who have booked their seats, they’re going to have fun, and they are secured,” the head of Events and Partnerships at Citi FM and Citi TV said.

She mentioned that all preparations had been made towards the trip.

“Hotels are ready, buses are ready; Citi FM/Citi TV as an organization, we are ready,” Frema Adunyame stated.

Embarking from the vibrant Greater Accra Region, the Heritage Caravan will traverse the picturesque terrains of Volta, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East, Upper East, Northern, Savannah, North East, Ashanti, Western North, Western, and Central Regions before returning to Greater Accra.

The Heritage Caravan offers a unique road trip experience, providing participants with an intimate encounter with Ghana’s cultural heritage.

Since its inception in 2016, the Caravan has explored every region, visiting iconic sites such as Mole National Park, the Military Museum, Bonwire Kente Exhibition, the Slave Memorial at Assin Manso, Elmina Castle, Larabanga Mosque, Nzulezu village, and the crocodile pond at Paga, among others.

As a flagship initiative of Citi TV and Citi FM, the Heritage Caravan is held annually in March as part of the Heritage Month celebrations.

The Heritage Caravan 2024 is powered by Citi TV with support from 97.3 Citi FM. It’s proudly sponsored by the National Lottery Authority, Goil PLC, and Hollard Insurance.

It has emerged that between May and July 2017 some three top Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Ghana namely Goil, Vivo Energy-Shell and Total sold their fuel at higher prices as compared to other OMCs in the country.

According to a recent report released by the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), despite the increase in the fuel prices at the pump, the companies still increased  their market shares  from 43.28% in 2016 to 45.09% in 2017.

[contextly_sidebar id=”V3ITf3BtDUZNniwQFnwffpxgUgiLUl33″]“The top three OMCs (Goil, Vivo Energy-Shell and Total) displayed the highest pump prices among the top 10 for the period under review.”

CBOD in the report ascribed the increase in market share to the “quality of service” exhibited at the pump of Goil, Vivo Energy-Shell and Total.

“Their market share in 2017 increased from 43.28% to 45.09%.  This suggest that consumer purchase decisions are increasingly being inspired by the quality of service and other factors and not just price,” the statement stated.

CBOD further observed that within the first trimester the OMCs had clear disparities in the pump prices for gasoline and gasoil but added that should the pattern continue it “may be unfavorable to the effective and efficient competition in the market in the foreseeable future since these three continue to dominate the market.”

Illegal fuel imports hurting BDCs

In another development CBOD in the report complained that illegal fuel imports into Ghana adversely affected the Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) over the period.

The Chamber argued that such acts created unhealthy competition in the industry and threaten the ability of BDCs to honour their financial obligations to their suppliers and banks.

He said the hospital was in dire need of incubators, patient monitors, autoclave and several medical devices and equipment and appealed to the company to come to its aid.

The Police Administration has admitted to fuel shortage for its vehicles but said the shortage is not affecting their work.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Public Affairs Director at the Police headquarters, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, has said this fuel shortage is not affecting the Police Sevice’s operational duties.

[contextly_sidebar id=”wtq1Dy0BtOe6SuiYdDyvs350P27eU7zn”]“The police has a little challenge. We have a little reduction in our stock so what we do when we encounter similar challenges is that we cut down or suspend supply to office vehicles and preserve what we have left for operational vehicles so that our core mandate of policing, patrolling and protecting lives and property is retained,” he explained.

“I will say that we have some challenges but the challenges are not such that it could affect our core mandate of maintaining law and order.”

Supt. Arthur said he had spoken with the officer in charge of services and was assured that the Police were expecting a supply of fuel “very soon”.

The reports on the supposed shortage came from sources within the police service who said divisional commanders and district commander were using their own money to fuel police patrol vehicles.

Sources also said the fuel depot at the main pump station opposite the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at 37 had been shut down.

Indications from some police sources were that the Ghana Police Service owed GOIL a substantial amount of money and this may have directly affected the fuel situation.

When probed on the reasons for the reduction in fuel stock, on who supplied fuel and on if the service was indebted to GOIL, Supt. Arthur said he could not comment adequately.

But on the supposed shutdown of the fuel depot, he said “if any driver who drives an office vehicle goes there, he will be told that there is no fuel. But if an operational vehicle goes there, it will be supplied.”

Supt. Arthur noted further, he himself said he was not getting fuel from the 37 fuel depot.

The Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) on Wednesday commissioned a 15 million dollar Marine Gas Storage (MGS) facility, the largest in the country to improve the bunkering industry and the Ghanaian economy in general.

The 13.5 million litre capacity project consists of storage and dispatch of marine gas oil to upstream vessels, ships and FPSOs that would dock at the Takoradi Port and would no doubt contribute to the re-direction of ships and vessels to the Takoradi Harbour for fuelling and making Ghana the destination choice for vessels in the sub-region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qafUjnBONGbJT9QQEcjQxzxwfoSOjFfk”]Mr Patrick Akpe Kwame Akorli, Group Chief Executive Officer of GOIL said the construction of the facility began in 2015 and is said to revitalize the Takoradi Port, energize general economic activity in the country’s energy sector.

He said: “With the oil find, vessels and ship activity was expected to increase in the country…we are ready to meet the oil needs of these vessels”.

He said despite the numerous challenges and the skepticisms over the ability of GOIL to undertake such a huge project…“the company had proven that given the right environment and leadership Ghanaian businesses could do better.

“The initial challenges never discouraged and hindered GOIL’s Board of Directors and Management’s determination to forge ahead with the project, GOIL’s investment is therefore a testimony that Ghanaian companies can rise to the occasion.”

Mr Akorli said GOIL marine gas tank farm had a motorised valves and automatic control systems for dispatching products to the vessels, three pumps to provide product at a flow rate of 250 cubic metre an hour, with additional extra lines to meet customer needs.

The project according to the GOIL Group CEO had a separator system to ensure any affluent from the tank farm was properly treated and fire-fighting system with foam and water.

The GOIL MGO facility, Mr Akorli added was of the highest quality and met international standard in terms of storage, distribution and safety adding, “the foundations of the project have been designed taken into consideration seismic movement at the harbor.”

The GOIL Group CEO expressed gratitude to Murray and Roberts, a South African Company engineering and construction firm and Viking Offshore for their excellent performance in the execution and management of the project within a record 18 months.

The 15-million-dollar facility was solely financed by GOIL through its internally generated funds; Mr Akorli therefore stressed the need for the patronage of the local goods; “When you patronise local goods and services and money generated stays in the country but if you buy foreign goods the money is repatriated back to their country of origin.

“We believe in the Ghanaian, we believe that some aspect, especially the retail aspect of the economy must be left in the hands of Ghanaians. That is the only way we can grow our economy and that is the only way to retain money in our economy.

“If everything is being done by outsiders, they make their money and take it away, how then do we retain our economy, circulate and generate the employment that our youth needs so much”.

Dr Amin Adams, Deputy Minister for Energy designated in an address on behalf of the sector Minister urged indigenous companies to continue to take advantage of the conducive business environment to grow and expand the economic.

“Government will soon formalise the local content policy on downstream industry activities and so companies such as GOIL must embrace the policy and work with it to the latter for the total growth of the economy and the industry at large,” he said.

Ghana is expected to make gains from this project since it will cut down on the volume of foreign exchange which goes into the importation of the MGO.

Professor William Asomaning, Board Chairman of GOIL said the project would positionit as an important player in bunkering business, redirect significant volume of business activity in the sector to the Takoradi Port and help the GOIL to recoup investment and increase revenue of the port as well.

He mentioned the completion of similar facility at the Sekondi naval base to provide 4000 litre to benefit from the huge trade in marine gas 60 per cent of which was done offshore presently.

Nana Kobina Nketsiah, V Omanhene of Essikado traditional Area said the feat chalked by GOIL demonstrated how determination and “can do spirit” propel an individual or country into development and urged them to fly the flag of Ghana even higher.

Indigenous Oil Marketing Company, Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL),  has apologized to President Nana Akufo-Addo for wrongfully criticizing the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer of the company, thereby breaching Ghana Stock Exchange(GSE) regulations, when he had not.

GOIL was acting an erroneous news publication on news aggregating website, Ghana Web.

[contextly_sidebar id=”noGD8hiAROi6YMOmenkcDmbz818PqYUp”]The apology was conveyed in a letter signed by the Board Chairman of GOIL, William A. Asomaning.

The letter, seen by Citi News said: “The Board of Directors of the Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) takes cognizance of the statement from the office of the President under the hand of the Acting Director of Communications, dated 28th February,2017; which statement has indicated that the publication on Ghana Web to the effect that His Excellency the President has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer for GOIL, is not true.”

“To this end, we the members of the Board of Directors of GOIL, do hereby, render our sincere apologies to Your Excellency for any embarrassment caused by the Board’s statement in response to the Ghana Web publication of 24th February 2017.

Government in a statement responding to GOIL’s dismissing of the reports of a new CEO, chided the oil marketing company for falling to mere speculation on the matter in what it described as a “completely needless” reaction to the reports.

According to government, GOIL’s response to the alleged appointment was not anchored on any concrete evidence.

The reports indicated that President Akufo-Addo had appointed one Osei Prempeh as GOIL’s new CEO.

President Nana Akufo-Addo did not appoint a new Chief Executive Officer of Indigenous Oil Marketing Company, GOIL, government has clarified.

Gov’t further chided GOIL for falling for speculation on the matter in what it described as a “completely needless” reaction to the reports.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GSTIzLbaQYWvEUdDipnCrdOaY9HZkdyo”]On February 25, GOIL released a statement dismissing reports to the effect President Akufo-Addo had appointed one Mr. Osei Prempeh as its new CEO.

According to the GOIL, it is listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange(GSE), hence has procedures in appointing its head, which must comply with regulations set by the GSE.

But government in a statement of its own said GOIL’s response to the alleged appointment was not anchored on any concrete evidence.

“One would have hoped, in the interest of best practices, that the issuance of such a statement by Prof. William Asumaning would have been hinged on concrete evidence, in the form of appointment letters, and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication. The statement by the Board Chair was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not appointed a new CEO of GOIL, and when he decides to do so, it will be done in accordance with laid down procedures,” the statement concluded.

RE: STATEMENT BY GOIL BOARD ON APPOINTMENT OF A NEW CEO

The Office of the President has taken notice of a statement issued by Prof. William Asumaning, the Board Chairman of Goil, on Saturday, February 25, 2017, in relation to the purported appointment of a “new” Chief Executive Officer of the Company by the President of the Republic.

The statement by the Board Chairman references a Ghanaweb publication of 24th February, 2017 titled “Nana Addo Picks New Heads for Forestry Commission, Ghana Health Service and GOIL”.  It is on the basis of this story that Prof. William Asumaning put out his statement.

One would have hoped, in the interest of best practices, that the issuance of such a statement by Prof. William Asumaning would have been hinged on concrete evidence, in the form of appointment letters, and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication. The statement by the Board Chair was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least.

For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not appointed a new CEO of GOIL, and when he decides to do so, it will be done in accordance with laid down procedures.
