Citi FM on October 6 honoured the best graduating student in broadcast journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).

Miss Ruth Bazing was adjudged the best broadcast journalist for the 2017 graduating class at GIJ’s 11th Congregation ceremony held on Friday.

Ruth was also named the overall best student acknowledging her exploits throughout her four years at the University.

She was presented with a brand new laptop and an audio recorder from Citi FM. She also received a certificate of honour.

Speaking to citifmonline.com after the ceremony, an elated Ruth expressed her appreciation to Citi FM for the award.

“I think it’s basically determination and sticking to the books. I believe academic excellence doesn’t come from cramming but allowing yourself to understand what is being taught and replicating everything in your own understanding. God plays a role too, without God none of these could have been achieved,” she added.

Ruth stated that she intended to pursue a masters degree with the hope of taking up teaching – a passion of hers – in the future

She also advised young students to “set their priorities straight if they want to follow in my footsteps.”

“I love having fun but I know when to. Know when to sit by the books and when to relax and have fun.”

A number of Ruth’s mates praised her work ethic and commitment and backed her to achieve greater heights in the future.

“I know Ruth as someone who is hardworking and one who likes to study. I think the school considered her deserving of an award and I wish her well,” Sandra Hyde who was a classmate of Ruth’s for two years said.

This is the third consecutive year Citi FM had awarded graduating students from the nation’s premier Communications institution.

Eva Kuupoulo and Ghansah Kwesi Ewur were honoured in 2015 while Eugenia Kumi Akorfa picked up the award last year [2016].

In many ways being single in your 30s is ideal. You probably have an interesting job, you’re still reasonably healthy and you can spend your time and money on whatever the hell you want.

However, there are some things your older/younger/married friends don’t quite get. Here they are…

1. Family reunions mean pity, confusion, then a loud ‘brave’ question about your sexual orientation.

2. Men still want to pull you in clubs. This would be great if the men in question weren’t 18.

3. Facebook was not created by Mark Zuckerberg. It was, in fact, created by Satan to torture you.

4. Weekends are perfect. Last-minute jaunt to Milan? Don’t mind if I do…

5. …but, occasionally, having so much fun can get a bit exhausting.

6. The importance of a good massage therapist. People need to be touched. No, not like that. Well obviously sometimes like that which brings me to…

7. The value of a good FWB (friend with benefits) and the fact you are happy to keep them as this, not ruin things by trying to turn them into a life partner.

8. That although people ‘must be queuing up for you’, if internet dating is any indicator, this queue comprises a Hodor double who ‘likes burning things’, a 5ft 2 necrophiliac and a worrying number of men whose number one pastime is emailing strangers photographs of their genitals.

9. That 20-something women are 100x hotter than you but, as a rule, 100x less confident. You may or may not have started hugging them and explaining the reason men aren’t asking them out is because they’re intimidated by their beauty, intelligence and general awesomeness.

10. That a depressing number of men want to cheat on their girlfriends and wives. You know this because they keep asking you to ‘dinner’.

11. That a child pooing in a pot does not warrant a Facebook status update and several photos.

12. The joy you feel when a single best friend finally does find a great partner.

13. That you have to pretend to love being single, even when you don’t, because admitting you’re lonely and miss being held just makes everyone else uncomfortable and suspect you’re not a feminist.

14. Although sometimes you really DO love being single because you don’t have to waste time pretending to enjoy the boring s*** someone else likes.

15. ‘Stop talking to my husband’ face.

16. That all married people are intrigued by internet dating and think it’s exciting and fun. This is because they’ve never tried internet dating.

17. ‘Why are you still single/what’s secretly wrong with you’ face.

18. Corns and bunions. WHY HAS MY SHOE COLLECTION TURNED AGAINST ME?

19. That, going by your friends’ and siblings’ offspring, kids are brilliant but this doesn’t necessarily mean you want your own. Some people will not understand this concept and repeatedly remind you ‘there’s still time.’

20. The importance of an industrial strength under-eye concealer.

21. Asking one married friend to dinner means both turning up.

22. That it’s 100 per cent better to be single than settle for a crushing bore, a compulsive liar or an arrogant git – even though some of your friends have because they really wanted a baby.

It’s not always easy living la vida solo — especially when everyone has an opinion as to why you’re single and what you’re doing wrong . But in actuality, if you’re not in a relationship right now, it means you’re doing plenty of things absolutely right! Read on to see the reasons being single is awesome and why you should be proud of yourself.

True, you haven’t met the love of your life, but you also haven’t lowered your standards and settled for a relationship that fails to excite you. Many people reach a particular age and figure it’s time to settle down. But sadly, in such cases, settling down often entails settling.Marriages of convenience or those that occur because “it seemed like the next logical step” lack passion and enthusiasm, leaving their members vulnerable to tedium, strife and infidelity. But you won’t compromise for a lackluster union. And for that, you should be commended!

#2. You’re Not Afraid of Being Alone
Too many people limp along in mediocre or unhealthy relationships refusing to call it quits because they cant handle being alone.Pervasive social pressure to couple up and a lingering stigma associated with single status can cause even the strongest of us to pale at the thought of going stag to yet another wedding, benefit or office party. But hanging on to someone to avoid the discomfort of lonely weekends is not only lame, it’s cruel. No one wants to be used like that. So kudos to you for braving the social scene sans a plus one!

#3. You’re Staying True to Yourself
You probably hear a decent amount of advice as to how you need to change in order to meet The One. Unsolicited commentary on your dating style and approach may come from various sources — your mom, married friends, and even exes. Of course, you want to continue to grow to become the best you possible, but at the same time, you need to remain true to yourself and be authentically you!Ultimately, the person you end up with will want the genuine article, not some manufactured persona designed to snag dates.

#4. You Don’t Need Anyone to Make You Happy
Experiencing adulthood without a partner is perhaps the best ways to learn one of life’s most important lessons — no one can make you happy except yourself. When we’re coupled up, it’s easy to expect our significant other to make us happy or blame him/her when we’re feeling low. Of course, in strong relationships, our partner’s presence greatly enhances our overall life satisfaction. But ultimately, responsibility for our emotional well-being is ours alone. Single adults know it’s their job to make themselves happy every day — period. What a wonderful quality to bring to your next relationship!

#5. You’re Staying Positive and Hopeful
After a handful (or slew) of unsuccessful relationships, it would be easy enough to give up and get into a negative space about the whole dating scene. But that’s not you! In fact, here you are reading about love and relationships looking for inspiration, encouragement, and maybe a tip or two. A positive, upbeat attitude consistently ranks as one of the most attractive qualities people look for in a partner, so remaining hopeful can only help your future chances for love.
