The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, has cautioned the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), against acts of hooliganism as they celebrate the party’s 2016 election landslide victory.

He served notice that his administration will not hesitate to arrest wayward NPP youth caught flouting the law.

[contextly_sidebar id=”JlcfbjALz3BLJHNvb4sfEz84cZCcy5NG”]DCOP Ken Yeboah raised this concern at a dialogue with some NPP youth organized by the party’s regional secretariat.

He said the police remained resolute in their commitment to protect life and property. He advised NPP youth to stay calm and search for jobs to improve their livelihood.

DCOP Ken Yeboah pleaded with opinion leaders in the region to deepen their collaboration with law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order.

The NPP Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, reiterated his call on the party’s youth to remain law abiding. He described as needless any attempt by some party youth to molest and intimidate NDC supporters.

“We think certain happenings among the youth since the NPP were declared winners of the 2016 general elections are counterproductive and smacks of irresponsibility and chaos. The NPP is a disciplined party and we expect our youth to behave as such.”

Daniel Bugri Naabu assured the youth of maximum protection and a brighter future.

NPP victory health walk

The NPP Regional Youth Organizer, Rashid Salifu, announced the party’s intention to organize a victory health walk on Saturday December 17.

He encouraged all party loyalists to participate in the event ahead of the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s swearing in ceremony.

The Running Mate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Ms. Brigitte Dzogbenuku, has advised Ghanaian parents particularly mothers, to think carefully about the future of their kids before they cast their vote on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

According to her, it is only the PPP that is assuring their wards of Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE), therefore they must endeavour to cast their vote for Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, so he can implement this all important policy which is enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

Ms. Dzorgbenuku made this known when she, together with the 2nd Vice Chairperson of PPP, Berlinda Bulley, stormed the Nyanyano town in the Gomoa East Constituency, to campaign and interact with the fisher folks and women in the community.

“The future of Ghana will be on the shoulders of the children we see today. That is why Dr. Nduom has said that he is going to make basic education free and compulsory for them,” she indicated.

She the charged the people to vote massively for Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who is Number 4 on the presidential ballot paper, and the PPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa East, Eunice Asumeng, who is number 1 on the parliamentary ballot paper.

For her part, Eunice Asumeng said she was going to restore Nyanyano to its lost glory, since it is one of the oldest towns in the Gomoa East Constituency.

She added that, she was going to provide vocational training to all the young men and women in the constituency.

Earlier, the PPP Running Mate, Brigitte Dzogbenuku and her team, visited the palace of Dr. Nana Obeng Wiabo (V), the Gomoa Nyanyano Odikro.

President John Mahama has said he will not be distracted by what he called the propaganda from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking to downplay his achievements over the years.

He charged the electorate to reject the NPP in the 2016 polls and retain him and allow for the continuation of the developmental projects he has started.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GJ63fuKYf8QAWDjTLJfTM96z1wlGHaFm”]President Mahama was in Kyebi, the hometown of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, when he declared, “we will not allow all the distractions to stop us from delivering on our promises. The developmental agenda will be executed. The jobs will come so that our children will get jobs to do.”

He again likened the the NPP to sports fans who were all talk but no action, during the latest leg of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region on Thursday.

“It is always easier said than done. This scenario is just like a spectator watching a football match. The spectator seems to know how to play more than the footballer themselves. They always say, you should have kicked the ball that way, you should have positioned yourself this way. But put this same spectator on the field and see if he can play.”

Peace will prevail

President Mahama also assured the electorate that peace would prevail at the polls in December.

“There are many countries in this world that lack the peace we are enjoying here in Ghana. Elsewhere, people are now refugees because of conflict… God has really blessed us and I know that God will allow us to continue living in peace.”

“When it is time for elections, some people just created fear saying there would be conflict. We have voted six times and nothing of that sort has happened. This will be seventh time and I have faith that it will be a peaceful election,” President Mahama said.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has registered a total of 2,276 prison inmates across the country, to enable them participate in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

About 40,433 new eligible voters have also been captured onto the electoral roll during the continuous voter registration exercise, with 29,897 (52.7%) out of the over 56,000 deleted NHIS registrants re-registering.

These figures, according to ghelections.com’s sources, were disclosed at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting where a number of issues relating to the December 7 elections were discussed.

EC began the nationwide registration of prisoners on August 22, 2016, amid protests by some political parties like the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), that the exercise was being carried out without prior notification to stakeholders.

“We would have wished that much as the C.I 91 grants this activity of the Commission in consultation with political parties, the parties would have been duly notified/consulted before any such decisions are taken,” NPP pointed out in a statement signed by its Acting General Secretary, John Boadu.

As a result, the NPP requested the country’s election management body to explain how the voter registration was being done in the prisons nationwide.

Prisoners can vote – Supreme Court

The Supreme Court in 2010 upheld the rights of prison inmates to vote in general elections under Article 42, 1992 of Ghana’s Constitution.

Following the ruling by the apex court, then President John E. A. Mills announced during the inauguration of the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region on November 8, 2011, that the EC will be well-resourced to register prisoners for them to vote in the 2012 elections.

But the resources were not provided, hence the inability of the EC to register the prisoners for the 2012 general election.

In complying with the Supreme Court ruling, Constitutional Instrument (C.I 91), 2016, which regulates the registration of voters for the upcoming general elections, made provisions for prison inmates.
