Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, who is also Otublohum Mantse, has asked the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to reverse the induction of Nii Adama Latse as the Ga Mantse into its fold.

The Council says it has picked reports in sections of the media suggesting that Nii Adama Latse has been inducted into the House of Chiefs as Ga Mantse.

According to a statement signed by acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, and copied to citifmonline.com, the legitimacy of Nii Latse Adama as Ga Mantse is still a subject pending before the court, and so his induction into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs is null and void.

The Greater Accra Region has witnessed some of the prolonged and fiercest chieftaincy dispute, particularly on the choice of who becomes a Ga Mantse.

Below is the full statement from the Council.

ILLEGAL INDUCTION OF NII ADAMA LATSE INTO THE GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS

The Ga Traditional council has learnt with shock and dismay the induction of Nii Adama Latse into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. The news got to us via the media.

There are series of suits pending against his illegality to occupy the position of the Ga Mantse.

This is a breach of natural jstice and fairness to the contending parties, which cases are pending before the Ga Traditional Council on the Djasetse suit, filed against Nii Yartey Otoga purported King Maker of Nii Adama Latse.

We ask that the position of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs is reversed to bring calm and peace to the Ga state. We vehemently condemn this induction and do not support it.

The Ga Mantse is the head of the Ga Traditional Area, and if he is not accepted by the Ga Traditional Council, then his position is illegal.

There is an injunction by the High Court on the Ga Traditional Council not to induct Nii Adama Latse into its fold. The Ga Traditional Council on 13th February, 2017, was duly ordered that its defendants be restrained from inducting Nii Adama Latse as Ga Mantse, and also restrained from transmitting his Chieftaincy declaration forms for Gazette notification at the National House of Chiefs.

Meanwhile, we are aware of several suits, injunctions and contempt applications pending against Nii Adama Latse at the Ga Traditional Council, Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, National House of Chiefs, High Court, and the Court of Appeal in Kumasi.

We, the members of the Ga Traditional Council, are law abiding, and will not condone and connive illegality.

We therefore consider this induction of Nii Adama Latse, null and void and of no legal effect.

Thank You

NII DODOO NSAKI II

OTUBLOHUM MANTSE AND

The Ga Traditional Council has asked government to extend the cut-off date for submission of claims of the proposed Marine Drive Tourism project in Osu to June 2017.

In a petition to President John Dramani Mahama, the Traditional Council also requested for increased access to the project and greater transparency in releasing relevant information to stakeholders.

[contextly_sidebar id=”87sNIFckfM51mU36PfUBDMJb2YcLmpvT”]The Council, at a press conference, expressed displeasure about the proposed project design and exclusion of some allodial owners from discussions of the project.

It requested that local content, culture, images and symbols be included as a means to reflect cultural identity of the people as well as ensure indigenous artisans, contractors and community members were hired to execute the project.

Mr Kwaku Baprui Asante, ex-President of the Ga Traditional Council, said although they appreciated efforts by government to utilise the coastal land (from the Marine Drive in Osu to Baiden Powell Hall in Ga Mashie) to develop a tourism industry in the capital, they had “legitimate concerns”.

“We are particularly concerned about the plan to acquire 243 acres of the land and use it primarily for the tourism project while the neighbouring communities of Osu, Ga Mashie, and Jamestown have dire needs for real affordable housing, schools, clinics, fish markets and related facilities, and a cultural and heritage centre,” he said.

Mr Asante said; “The Council wants government to scale back the extent of the acreage for the Marine Drive project and instead develop the remaining acreage for the indigenous Osu and Ga people to meet their dire communal needs.”

He said government was only expected to lease public lands and not outright sale to any foreign investor as per the Constitutional provisions.

He said government could only “acquire privately owned land from allodial owners for public benefit and not for sale to private and foreign investors”.

“The Government’s continual selling of public lands, acquired compulsorily from the Ga and Dangme people, to private people without any benefits to the original allodial owners is confrontational and insensitive,” Mr Asante said.

The Traditional Council urged government to swiftly look at institutionalising 30 per cent equity in all private developments on public lands acquired in Ga and Dangme Traditional areas to a GaDangme Development Trust Fund.

This would take care of development projects, education and promotion of Ga Dangme culture.

Several other issues were raised in the petition including a call on government to consult and liaise with a committee comprising representatives of the Ga, Osu and Jamestown Traditional councils as well as Ga Dangme organisations and community leaders.

The people suggested public hearings be held in the Ga, Osu and Jamestown communities to sufficiently inform and engage community members on the Marine Drive project.

A defeated First Vice National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie is proposing a joint Presidential and Parliamentary primaries for the party.

Mr. Omari Wadie in an open letter to the party’s National Chairman and General Secretary says the party should conduct both the Presidential and Parliamentary primaries on the same day to save the party’s time and resources.

Speaking to Citi News, the former Ayawaso West Wugon Constituency Chairman said the NPP will go into the 2016 election united if such a proposal is adopted.

“I think instead of waiting and going through all these noisy primaries…we should be able to pair the two primaries so we can have it all on the same day and finish with it and focus on the 2016 elections… it will help the party and put everybody’s heart at peace,” Mr. Wadie explained.

Commenting on the issue of cost, Mr. Wadie noted that the party and the delegates would save themselves from extra cost if the party implements the proposal.

“The delegates who would vote at the Presidential primary are the same people who would vote at the Presidential primary so why don’t we bring them together to come and cast one vote… we can have both primaries at one cost,” he said.
