The office of the Gbese Mantse has said that the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has no mandate to instruct Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II, to stop parading himself as a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

The Spokesperson of Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Nii Annan Agbo, in a Citi News, said there was no basis for the Ministry’s order restraining the Chief.

[contextly_sidebar id=”L3wxSKJQWU6v5tjwbAauyRwjxcYSC4Bk”]The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, in a letter dated October 27, 2017, and sighted by citifmonline.com, ordered Nii-Ayi Bonte and Nii Adama Latse II, the two claimants of the Ga stool to seize parading themselves as members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

According to the Ministry, the two were inducted into the regional house of chiefs under unclear circumstances, which nullifies their inclusion as members.

He said,  “the two should not attend upon the House, participate in any matters of the House, and no benefits and privileges or all other incidentals should be extended to the two referred above.”

But the spokesperson for the Gbese Mantse insists that Nii-Ayi Bonte was duly inducted into the Regional House of Chiefs.

“I am not happy about the statement because the minister is not a principal kingmaker. This is related to Chieftaincy. Before anyone goes to the regional house of chiefs, the president at the traditional council has endorsed the person. I don’t know why he passed that statement that Nii Ayi Bonte has no right to go to there. If he has any issue, he should go to the regional house of chiefs or the traditional council to enquire before passing any comment. The chieftaincy minister has trespassed. Gbese is at peace. Nobody is fighting the Gbese Mantse,” he told Citi News.

Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II

Nii Adama Latse II is yet to respond to the Minister’s letter.

Reverse Nii Adama Latse’s induction as Ga Mantse – Ga Traditional Council

In October this year, acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, who is also Otublohum Mantse, asked the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to reverse the induction of Nii Adama Latse as the Ga Mantse into its fold.

The Council said at the time that it had picked reports in sections of the media suggesting that Nii Adama Latse had been inducted into the House of Chiefs as Ga Mantse.

4 arrested in fresh clashes over Ga Mantse installation

The confusion over who qualifies to be the Ga Mantse has existed since the demise of Boni Nii Amugi II in December 2004, which was followed by several people laying claim to the stool.

Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II became the fifth Ga Mantse to be installed since the death of Nii Amugi II.

According to Ga tradition, the kingship rotates among four royal houses, namely, Teiko Tsuru We, Amugi We, Abola Piam We and Tackie Kommey We.

The general consensus is that, it is the Abola Piam We’s turn to enstool a Ga Mantse.

On October 25, 2017, four persons were arrested, after chaos erupted during a press conference by the Abola Piam We (Clan), at Ga Mashie in Accra, following threats by the Royal House to install a new Ga Mantse.

As the Abola Piam We press conference was ongoing, some youth besieged the venue, saying they had been sent by Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who was installed on Monday as the new Ga Mantse.

Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was installed at the North-Kaneshie Palace of the Ga State, amid heavy police presence to maintain law and order

The rampaging youth also threatened the lives of journalists, accusing them of fanning the tensions over a traditional ruler in the Ga state.

Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, who is also Otublohum Mantse, has asked the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to reverse the induction of Nii Adama Latse as the Ga Mantse into its fold.

The Council says it has picked reports in sections of the media suggesting that Nii Adama Latse has been inducted into the House of Chiefs as Ga Mantse.

According to a statement signed by acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, and copied to citifmonline.com, the legitimacy of Nii Latse Adama as Ga Mantse is still a subject pending before the court, and so his induction into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs is null and void.

The Greater Accra Region has witnessed some of the prolonged and fiercest chieftaincy dispute, particularly on the choice of who becomes a Ga Mantse.

Below is the full statement from the Council.

ILLEGAL INDUCTION OF NII ADAMA LATSE INTO THE GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS

The Ga Traditional council has learnt with shock and dismay the induction of Nii Adama Latse into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. The news got to us via the media.

There are series of suits pending against his illegality to occupy the position of the Ga Mantse.

This is a breach of natural jstice and fairness to the contending parties, which cases are pending before the Ga Traditional Council on the Djasetse suit, filed against Nii Yartey Otoga purported King Maker of Nii Adama Latse.

We ask that the position of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs is reversed to bring calm and peace to the Ga state. We vehemently condemn this induction and do not support it.

The Ga Mantse is the head of the Ga Traditional Area, and if he is not accepted by the Ga Traditional Council, then his position is illegal.

There is an injunction by the High Court on the Ga Traditional Council not to induct Nii Adama Latse into its fold. The Ga Traditional Council on 13th February, 2017, was duly ordered that its defendants be restrained from inducting Nii Adama Latse as Ga Mantse, and also restrained from transmitting his Chieftaincy declaration forms for Gazette notification at the National House of Chiefs.

Meanwhile, we are aware of several suits, injunctions and contempt applications pending against Nii Adama Latse at the Ga Traditional Council, Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, National House of Chiefs, High Court, and the Court of Appeal in Kumasi.

We, the members of the Ga Traditional Council, are law abiding, and will not condone and connive illegality.

We therefore consider this induction of Nii Adama Latse, null and void and of no legal effect.

Thank You

NII DODOO NSAKI II

The Warrior King (Asafoatse) of the Ga state, Captain Nii Mankatah, has threatened “fire” if a new Ga Mantse is not announced by the end of April this year.

According to him, the absence of a Ga Mantse has resulted in the lack of effective leadership stalling growth and development in the Ga state.

[contextly_sidebar id=”CzEDdm1ysdRl7gVtEmUPPxa2rvcP2huS”]The Asafoatsemei and Asafoanyemei of the Ga state are therefore demanding a cessation of the many conflicts surrounding the Ga paramountcy, so that an acceptable leader will emerge.

Currently, there are four claimants to the Ga State Stool following the death of the former Ga Manste, Nii Amugi II in 2004.

This situation, the Asaofoatse says is untenable, and must be immediately addressed to ensure the growth of the Ga State.

Addressing journalists today [Tuesday], the Ga Asafoatse, Captain Nii Mankatah, said his group will take serious action if the four royal families do not settle their differences to enable the state have a new Ga Mantse.

“Within the shortest time, I urge the four ruling houses which make the kingmakers of the Ga state to give me and my Asafoatsemei and Asafoanyemei and the Ga state a Ga Mantse within a month. They should let me know the Ga Mantse that I’m going to work with,” he said.

“I cannot be in my palace every day. I cannot call myself asafoatse without a Mantse. If they don’t do so, I and my asafoatsemei will bring fire to them. So I urge them within now and the ending of April, I want to see Ga Mantse,” he added.

In February 2017, the Abola Piam kingmakers enstooled Nii Obli as chief of the Ga State, increasing to four, the number of claimants to the stool.

But according to Nii Okang Osiahene IV, the Stool Father of the Abola Piam We, it was the turn of the Abola Piam We to install the Ga Mantse after the demise of Nii Amugi in 2004, but it was by-passed by the Nii Teiko Tsuru We, who should have waited for its turn as the third house to install a chief.

He said all the three claimants to the Ga stool; King Tackie Tawiah II, Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse II and Dr.  Tackie Abia were members of the Teiko Tsuru family.

The feuding factions of two Konkomba clans fighting over chieftaincy and land related issues at Biriyamba and Yiyamba in the Gushiegu district have signed a peace pact.

Signing a bond of good behaviour, they resolved to end the conflict and co-exist peacefully for meaningful development to triumph in their deprived communities.

The peace pact was signed at the end of a meeting between leaders of the two feuding factions and the seven member committee set up by the Northern Regional Security Council (RECSEC) to resolve the impasse between the two clans whose recent clash caused the death of four whiles several households were completely burnt.

The meeting was held behind closed doors in the office of the Gushiegu District Chief Executive and chaired by Chairman of the RECSEC investigative committee, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini who doubles as Deputy Northern Regional Minister.

He commended them for smoking the peace pipe with the anticipation that the conflict will never resurrect.

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini reiterated the need for them to engage in productive ventures to uplift the image of their communities.

He also encouraged parents to invest in their children’s education to enable them become responsible citizens.

The Sagnarigu constituency Legislator advised the mass media to be circumspect in their reportage on conflict situations especially in the Northern Region.

On behalf of government, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini donated relief items to both sides of the chieftaincy divide for the upkeep of the surviving residents who have been rendered homeless.

Assemblyman for Katani electoral area where the two communities are located, Ngmariba Ibrahim praised his people for the ceasefire.

He made a passionate appeal to the only four teachers who fled the community during the renewed clash to return to the classroom.

Member of Parliament for Gushiegu, Hon. Thomas Nassah pleaded with his kinsmen to re-channel their resources into their children’s education and stop what he described as the unwarranted conflict.

Leaders of the two feuding factions attributed the cause of the conflict to disputed farmlands but Citi News external sources revealed that the dispute was chieftaincy related which started in 2012.

The troubled Biriyamba and Yiyamba Konkomba communities lack basic amenities such as clean drinking water, electricity, telecommunication networks, roads and school infrastructure.
