The Family of the police officer who was shot dead in last Sunday’s attack on the Kwabenya Police station, wants the state to honour him with a state funeral.

Spokesperson for the family, Robert Normesinu Ashilevi, who made the request on their behalf at the ceremony to mark a week since his brother’s passing, said the tragic manner in which their breadwinner died necessitated such an honour.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mGequuUtbwPFdWCdx0dVs1Xd2YJNyfrG”]Mr. Ashilevi however noted that, the family is happy with the police’s pursuit of their son’s suspected killer so far .

He however called on government to use the tragic passing of Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi to beef up the general security of police officers across the country.

“Taking into account the circumstances leading to his death, the family will highly appreciate it if the state can accord him a state burial. We will appreciate it,” he said.

Widow of the Late Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi’

This request comes days after the family asked the government to establish a fund to cater for the education of his children.

The ceremony drew mourners from the police hierarchy including the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Director General of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Service, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Director General of Operations, COP George Dampare, and the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Alex Mensah.

The widow and bereaved family were treated to dirges by the Eastern Regional Police Band.

Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery was also present at the ceremony

Background

A gang of suspected armed robbers attacked the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters, which accommodates the Kwabenya Police Station, killing the officer on duty, and freeing cell inmates.

A total of seven inmates were freed but three of them have since been rearrested.

‘Cop killer busted’

In the latest development, the Accra Police Command has picked up the man believed to have shot the police officer dead.

The suspect has been identified as Kofi Seshie, aged 28.

Seshie was arrested along with four other suspects in the early hours of Saturday at Kasoa, according to a statement from the police.

The statement said these latest arrests bring the number of people detained following the incident to eleven, after six suspects were arrested during the week.

The police had announced a GHc15,000 bounty for any information leading to the arrest of the other four suspects who were freed from police custody by the robbers.

The now deceased Police officer sustained gunshot wounds and died whilst receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

He was the breadwinner for a family of seven with the youngest being three years.

‘No mercy’

Government has since condemned the attack on the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, assured that persons involved in the act will face the law.

“First of all government condemns the criminal conduct of these elements in the strongest possible terms. There is a manhunt for these criminal elements and we have no doubts in our minds that they will be brought to face justice.

“Government takes this opportunity to express its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased policeman… While this is one of the isolated incidents that have unsettled the Ghanaian population, we wish to continue to assure the Ghanaian people that the security agencies are working to ensure the general safety of the population. The preventive mechanism of the Police Service remains intact which helps to nip such occurrences in the bud before they become full-blown criminal activities.”

The second day of the last week of Effective Living Series with John Kpikpi gives a deep insight into the family.

The discussion started off with the foundation of the family, which is marriage.

In his submission on the Citi Breakfast Show, he took his time to delve into what marriage is, because according to him, you cannot have a happy home and family without a happy marriage.

“A husband and wife are the physical infrastructure of a marriage. If the two partners involved are not functioning well together, there is a great chance of not getting a good home”.

According to Kpikpi, every marriage is like building a house which requires a blueprint for starting the process.

“Settle the issues before you get started. I believe every marriage is like building a house, and there is a plan for building it. Unfortunately, most people start without finding out this plan”.

He noted that the mistake most couples make is having their own individual plans of what the marriage should be.

This, he said, can be detrimental to a marriage because of the likelihood of the opposing plans or vision of both couples.

He advised a man and a woman who want to settle, to try and understand marriage from God’s perspective to make marriage work.

The first and foremost thing in the blueprint of a marriage, is understanding that marriage is  about companionship “Which means they are close together, they share their lives, they support each other, they share the food or bread together,” he said.

The second thing in the blueprint of marriage from God’s perspective, is that a man and his wife will become one in the flesh, to look like and function like one unit.

“God wants every marriage on earth to have his creative ‘one flesh’”

The next thing he spoke about is choosing the right person. According to him, the person you have met is the one ordained for you.

To be able to find the right person, you need to open your eyes in God’s way or in a godly manner to what you want.

You need to work on yourself first to able to find the right someone for you. Look for deeper inner character, like faithfulness.

Faithfulness should be something you must find in the right person for you to spend the rest of your life with.

His last submission on the description of a happy home is whether or not your home is a safe haven for you, a place you are eager to go after a hustle and tussle with the world, a place where you and your partner work together as a team, and place where there is peace. If you are able to be true to yourself in the answers to what has been mentioned, then you have happy home and a family.

Former Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester City forward Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he is no longer on talking terms with his family.

Adebayor in an emotional Facebook post back in 2015 publicly revealed some of the personal issues with his family that have disrupted his career.

The Togo international who now plays in Turkey for Istanbul Başakşehiris, has enjoyed a stellar career and has had stints with some of Europe’s top clubs as well as being named CAF Footballer of the year back in 2008.

Adebayor was instrumental in helping his country make their first and only appearance so far in a FIFA World Cup, when his 11 goals helped secure Togo a spot in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The 33 year old however says he continues to cater for his family despite the halt in communication.

“I don’t talk to my family but I talk to my friends. Whenever they want to talk to me I’m ready to listen because I’m a good believer,” he said.

“We have done things and being through things so the issue is simple. They don’t help me to do my job properly.

“They will never call me to see if I’m fine or anything. They only call when they need something, but they say blood is thicker than water,” he was speaking in an interview with the BBC.

Adebayor is his country’s highest goalscorer with 30 goals.
