More than 1,000 young people have been charged by police in Denmark with distributing sexually explicit material.

They are accused of using Facebook Messenger to share indecent video clips of two 15-year-olds having sex.

Police said it could amount to distribution of indecent images of children, as the two people filmed are under 18.

Facebook tipped off the US authorities, who notified police in Denmark.

One thousand and four young people from across the country are facing charges after allegedly circulating the material via the messaging app in autumn last year.

Some suspects are over 18 and were called to police stations to be interviewed.

Suspects under 18 were contacted through their parents.

A Danish police superintendent said the charges come as a warning to young people never to share sex videos.

Anyone found guilty of these charges faces a possible conditional prison sentence of about 20 days.

If found guilty of distributing indecent images of children, they would be listed for ten years on a register of child pornography offenders.

There have been calls in Denmark for more to be done to prevent so-called revenge porn.

Facebook users are getting a new way to pay eachother with Messenger. Well, actually an old one – starting today, people in the US will be able to pay eachother using PayPal.

To set up PayPal, just initiate a payment like you normally would, by tapping the ‘+’ button and then selecting the green payments button.

Once you enter the amount and tap ‘pay’ you’ll have the option to select your payment method, which now includes PayPal in addition to debit cards. If you’ve already used Messenger for payments before, you can just tap ‘change’ to switch things up.

It’s a nice option to have if you’re already used to making transactions via PayPal, or if you simply prefer not giving your debit card information to Facebook.

The feature is currently only active for iOS users in the US, but will arrive on Android ‘soon.’ No word on when it might arrive on the desktop or for other regions, but we imagine it’s just a matter of time.

Ads are coming to Facebook Messenger.

After testing Messenger ads in Australia and Thailand, Facebook announced on Tuesday that any advertiser will be able to buy ads in the app, which boasts 1.2 billion users.

The ads won’t be shown in conversations. They will instead exist in the main inbox tab between chat threads.

Facebook said it will start rolling out ads slowly, starting with a small percentage of users in the US over the coming weeks. Marketers will be able to buy targeted Messenger ads alongside News Feed and Instagram in Facebook’s ad manager.

Showing traditional ads is a change of course for Messenger, which originally tried to monetize by pushing businesses to create bots for chatting directly with customers. The so-called chat bots have yet to catch on widely, but changes were made earlier this year to make them easier to use and more discoverable.

Adding more ads to Messenger now comes at a good time for Facebook: The company has warned that it’s nearing the limit of ads it can show in its main revenue source, the News Feed.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says there is a growing level of despondency among Ghanaians over government’s failure to fight corruption.

The officials in the current government have been named in a number of alleged corrupt deals and the award of contracts.

Reports indicate contracts awarded under the Savannah Accelerated Authority(SADA) and other local government projects were not executed but the contractors were paid millions of cedis.

The increase in corruption reports has outraged Ghanaians with many calling on government to urgently investigate them and prosecute those found guilty.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) recently called on government to invest in the fight against corruption by providing adequate funding to anti-corruption agencies.

According to Mr. Kufuor government’s lack of commitment to fighting the problem is angering many Ghanaians.

“With the population explosion, everybody is expecting something from the centre, and the centre not being able to provide; this compounds the corruption …there is a ground of unhappiness and of protest,” Mr. Kufuor said.

In an interview with the BBC , the Former President said more needs to be done to fight the canker. “I’m hopeful that along the way, corruption might be tackled effectively and hopefully …government should be more accountable.”
