Africa’s largest airline group, Ethiopian Airlines, is pleased to announce that it will start services to Bahrain effective August 17, 2017 with the latest B737-800 New Generation with Sky Interior.

Bahrain, a nation comprising more than 30 islands in the Persian Gulf has been at the center of major trade routes since olden days with growing economy over the past decade.

In line with the commencement of Ethiopian services to Bahrain, Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, said, “With the flourishing trade relations between Ethiopia and the Gulf countries, availability of efficient air transport services will surely play great roles in ensuring easy movement of people and import/export items. Our presence in Bahrain dates back to the 1970’s and we are glad that we are now  back with scheduled thrice weekly flights.  Currently, Ethiopian flies to major cities in the Middle east including: Beirut, Dammam, Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait, Dubai, Madinah, Muscat, Riyadh, and Sharjah.”

In  2017 alone, new destinations like Victoria Falls, Antananarivo, Oslo, Chengdu, Singapore, Guinea, Windhoek , Moroni, as well as freighter destinations like  Ahmedabad, a fifth cargo gateway to India, Milan and Zaragoza have joined Ethiopian vast global network. Ethiopian currently operates the youngest and the most technologically advanced fleet in the industry with an average fleet age of less than five years.

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest and the leading Pan-African Airline, has finalized preparations to start scheduled thrice weekly services to Kaduna, Nigeria, as of August 1st, 2017.

Kaduna, located in north-western Nigeria, is a trade center and a major transportation hub for the surrounding agricultural areas with its rail and road junction.

With the addition of Kaduna Ethiopian totally operates 23 weekly flights to Nigeria’s main cities namely; Abuja, Lagos, Enugu and Kano. Ethiopian Airlines maiden flight to Nigeria dates back to the 1960’s; same time the country got independence from foreign colonization.

Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated its state of the art Cargo Terminal-II.

The inauguration event was graced by H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the FDRE, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Transport and Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam GCEO Ethiopian Airlines, other high level government officials and participants of the ICAO Cargo Forum have graced this momentous occasion.

H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn remarked: “…the national flag carrier has become the largest aviation Group and the fastest growing airline in Africa unrivalled in efficiency with shining operational excellence.”

“Above all, Ethiopian Airlines has played an important and irreplaceable role in the development of the economy, export and import activities and foreign exchange earnings.”

Mr Tewolde also acknowledged partners who has contributed for the successful completion of the project and further remarked: “The new Cargo Terminal-II combined with our existing Terminal-I will give us a total tonnage capacity of around 1 million per annum which is the largest in the continent of Africa.”

“This milestone will make Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services one of the world’s largest cargo terminals; comparable with cargo terminals in Amsterdam Schiphol, Singapore Changi, or Hong Kong,” Mr Tewolde added.

Africa’s largest cargo operator, Ethiopian Airlines, has announced the inauguration of its state of the art Cargo Terminal-II during the Second ICAO Global Air Cargo Development Forum which it is hosting from 27th to 29th June, 2017.

Covering a total area of 150,000 m2 area of land, the new Cargo Terminal includes facilities such as Dry Cargo Terminal warehouse, Perishable Cargo Terminal with cool Chain Storage, fully automated with latest technology ETV (Elevating Transport Vehicle), G+2 office building, apron area which accommodates 5 additional big freighter aircraft, sufficient truck parking apron as well as employees canteen and wash rooms.

The new Cargo Terminal is also fitted with different climate chambers for storage and handling of temperature sensitive products such as fresh agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, life Science Products among others.

Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, remarked: “Infrastructure development being one of the four pillars of our fast, profitable and sustainable growth strategic roadmap, Vision 2025, we have been making massive investments in infrastructure projects to modernize and expand our cargo facilities at a total cost of USD 150 million. The new Cargo Terminal-II combined with our existing Terminal-I will give us a total tonnage capacity of around 1 million per annum which is the largest in the continent of Africa. Moreover, upon completion of the second phase, which adds 600, 000 tones annual uplift capacity, Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services will have one of the world’s largest cargo terminals; a capability equivalent to cargo terminals in Amsterdam Schiphol, Singapore Changi, or Hong Kong. This investment and the resulting massive cargo facilities along with the 6 modern B-777F fleet and 2 B-757F will create adequate air cargo transporting capacity for the fast growing export and import demand of the continent which is critically essential in the socio economic development of the African countries.”

Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services operates 8 dedicated freighters to 39 global freighter destinations in Africa, the Gulf, the Middle East, Asia and Europe with an average daily uplift of 650 tons on top of the belly hold capacity, 150 tons, to over 95 destinations globally.

Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services has recently won ‘Cargo Airline Award for Network Development” at Brussels; ‘African Cargo Airline of the Year’ and many more.

Ethiopian Airlines signed Cooperative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guangdong Airport Authorities in areas of increasing passenger flight frequency, launching new routes and joint promotion of Ethiopia cargo for additional frequency in Guangzhou.

Following the completion of the G20 Summit held in Hangzhou, the 2nd Investing in Africa Forum took place in Guangzhou from September 7 – 8 where Ethiopian Airlines was invited as the most successful African organization.

Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, said, “We are glad to collaborate with Guangdong Airport, which will further increase our presence in China, one of the most vibrant global economies. Our services to and from China have proved an ever growing and multifaceted economic merits both for Africa and China by ensuring swifter connectivity to traders and investor from both points. I would like to thank all who worked hard towards the successful completion of this agreement and look forward to a fruitful partnership with Guangdong Airport.”

The Forum was attended by high level officials both from China and Africa including: South African President Jackob Zuma, Guangdong Province Governor,

World Bank President, China Development Bank President, and Dr. Arkebe Oqubay Special Advisor to the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

Ethiopian is currently operating more than 30 weekly flights to and from China.
