MTN has donated a cheque sum of Ghc 5, 000 to the chiefs and people of the Essikadu Traditional Area in the Western Region in support of the 2017 edition of the Essikadu Kundum Festival celebrations.

According to the telecom giant’s senior Western Regional Manager, Simon Amoh, the company is happy to associate itself with the celebration of traditions which have positive impacts on citizens in advancing the course of peace, harmony and development.

Speaking at the presentation of the cheque at the palace of the Omanhene of the Essikadu Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Mr. Amoh noted that “tradition is central to the development in helping to disseminate knowledge norms and values for every society, and can serve as a good medium to changing negative mindset about the environment relationships among others.”

The Kundum festival is celebrated by the Ahanta and Nzema people of the western region. It is celebrated to thank god for the abundance of food at the time of the harvest period.

Over the years, the Essikadu Kundum celebrations have massively been attended by sons and daughters of British Sekondi [Essikadu] dotted around the globe as they visit their ancestry to partake in the celebration.

This year’s Essikadu Kundum; which is celebrated annually on the first week of August, is on the theme “The role of traditions in the community and national development”.

Apart from the Gh 5,000 donation, MTN also donated MTN recharge cards worth Gh500, MTN souvenirs and traditional drinks hamper at an undisclosed amount.

“MTN Ghana is particularly excited to share in the joy that comes with this celebration. We trust that the relationship between us will deepen even further as we continue to associate with the Kundum Festival for our mutual development agenda. Mr. Simon Amoh concluded.
